How to Make Pants and Shorts for Your Monster High and Barbie Girls and Boys
Welcome to Simple Kids Crafts, where we're going to be making pants for both boys and girls today! I'm excited to share this tutorial with you, and I hope it's helpful for creating adorable clothes for your Monster High or Barbie dolls. Let's get started!
The First Step: Preparing the Patterns
When it comes to making pants for different characters, we need to consider their unique features, such as weight and leg length. That's why I've created separate patterns for each boy and girl character. Take a look at these patterns on your screen – they're specifically designed for Monster High or Barbie dolls.
To make the pants, you'll need to use a piece of fabric that matches the pattern you've chosen. For this tutorial, we'll be using two types of fabric: recycled fabric for one pair and stretchy fabric for the CHS (that's what I call it). If you want to make shorts, simply take the same pattern and cut it to the desired size.
Drawing the Pattern onto the Fabric
Once you have your fabric, start by drawing the pattern onto it. This is where the magic happens! Take a marker or a pencil and carefully draw the outline of the pants or shorts onto the fabric. Make sure to follow the pattern carefully, as this will determine the shape and size of your final product.
Sewing the Pants Together
Now that you have your fabric cut out with the pattern drawn on it, it's time to sew the pants together. This is the easiest part of the tutorial – just simply sew along the line where the two pieces meet. You can use a sewing machine or do this by hand if you prefer.
To add some extra security to the seam, I like to sew up and down a few times before moving on to the next step. This helps ensure that the pants won't come apart easily. Make sure to leave enough room at the top for the waistband – we'll get to that in a minute!
Adding the Waistband
To create the waistband, you'll need to sew a small piece of fabric around the top of the pants. This will help keep everything in place and give your doll a more defined waistline. To do this, simply fold the raw edge of the fabric under by about half an inch, then press it with your iron.
Next, sew along the folded edge to create the waistband. Make sure to leave enough room at the top for the snap button (we'll get to that in a minute!). When you're done, press the seam flat with your iron and voila! You now have a beautiful waistband.
Adding the Snap Button
For the final touch, we need to add a snap button to the back of the pants. This will allow you to easily open and close the zipper. To do this, simply attach a small piece of fabric to the center of the waistband, making sure it's secure and won't come undone.
I prefer to use snap buttons because they're easy to use and add a nice touch to the overall design. You can also use other types of fasteners, such as velcro or hooks and eyes, if you prefer. Just make sure to attach them securely so they don't come loose over time.
Adding Decoration (Optional)
If you want to add some extra decoration to your pants, now is the time to do it! You can use a yellow thread to stitch on pockets, create a hemline, or even add some embroidery details. The possibilities are endless!
Finishing Touches
And that's it! Your pants are now complete. Make sure to try them out on your doll and make any necessary adjustments before displaying them proudly.
One of the coolest things about these patterns is that you can use them for Monster High, Barbie, or even other dolls like Ken. I've included a link to download the patterns below, so be sure to check it out!
In conclusion, making pants for your Monster High or Barbie dolls can be a fun and rewarding project. With these simple steps and patterns, you'll be creating adorable clothes in no time.
