Super Nintendo World - Rides, opening day and everything else we know

Super Nintendo World is finally coming to life at Universal Studios Japan, and it's going to be an immersive experience like no other. The park will feature two main rides that promise to deliver an unparalleled sense of adventure and excitement.

One of the rides, Super Mario World: The Ride, promises to transport riders into a world of wonder and awe. Guests will wear a special cap headset with two lenses that will create augmented reality effects, similar to those found in Microsoft HoloLens or Magic Leap devices. This technology will allow riders to see hovering objects, such as other cars and enemies, surrounding them as they navigate through the park. Projection mapping technology will also be used to create an even more immersive experience, making it seem like objects are floating around in 3D space.

The ride is designed to feel like a big, super-powered version of Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, which allows players to race on courses with AR effects overlaid. In Super Nintendo World's version, riders will be able to feel like they're actually in the game, looking around and interacting with the environment in ways that were previously impossible. The ride is expected to take about five minutes to complete and will accommodate four people per cart.

Another ride, Yoshi's Adventure, promises to be a treasure-hunting experience for two people in a little Yoshi vehicle. Riders will work together to find three hidden eggs, similar to the thrill of the Men in Black: Alien Attack ride at Universal Studios Japan. The ride is designed to be fun and accessible for younger riders, with a slightly younger skew.

In addition to these rides, Super Nintendo World will also feature a variety of interactive experiences and attractions that can be accessed using the Power-Up Band, a wristband-like device that allows players to earn challenges and rewards throughout the park. The band will be able to interact with objects in the environment, unlocking new content and features as riders progress through their journey.

Aerial views of the park currently show what appears to be a screen capture from a 3D Mario game, complete with coins, Piranha Plants, and Warp Pipes. This confirms that Super Nintendo World will feel like an immersive, interactive game world come to life.

One thing that's particularly exciting is the prospect of Super Nintendo World expanding to Universal Studios in Florida and other locations around the world. While details are still scarce on what this expansion might entail, it's clear that Universal is committed to bringing this unique and innovative experience to a wider audience.

For now, fans of Nintendo and theme parks alike can only wait with bated breath as Super Nintendo World prepares to open its doors in Japan on February 4th. With rumors of additional attractions and experiences already emerging, it's clear that this park is going to be a must-visit destination for anyone who loves gaming, adventure, or just plain old-fashioned fun.

As someone who spends a lot of time playing video games on their Switch and experimenting with virtual reality technology, I have to admit that I'm really curious about how the Power-Up Band will function. Will it be able to connect to other Nintendo games in the future? And what kind of experiences can riders expect as they explore the park? Only time will tell, but one thing's for sure: Super Nintendo World is going to be an experience unlike any other.

For now, I'll just have to wait patiently and dream about visiting this fantastical world when it opens. Hopefully, someone else out there will make a trip to Japan and report back with all the juicy details – until then, I'll just keep on dreaming of what's to come!

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enit's 2020. i haven't been to a theme park or traveled anywhere all year but nintendo is opening a theme park in japan in 2021 with universal studios super nintendo world is coming february 4th what's it got well nintendo and universal just dropped a bunch of news so let's go through the details so last year i went to universal studios in florida and i went to the wizarding world of harry potter and got a cool wand that sort of interactive stuff got me thinking about theme parks and that's exactly where nintendo was going with super nintendo world in fact it was supposed to open this year but of course because of covet 19 every plan got derailed but nintendo and universal are sticking to february 4th 2021 which is not far away for the park to open now in japan the kobet situation may be different than in the us where it feels like i'm really not traveling at all but the park does have two rides and a bit more to entice people to make a trip or to go check it out somehow if they live nearby universal studios in osaka is going to have this self-contained nintendo kingdom and it's been very carefully co-designed with nintendo now we do know that there are these power-up bands that you wear like a watch that's motion detected and uh basically kind of like a fitness tracker and you can use it to jump around and interact with a bunch of things in the park paired with a smartphone app there's also going to be this extra challenge that allows you to collect three different keys and retrieve some stuff from bowser jr it's like the separate game within a game in the park that sounds pretty interesting but kind of like the sort of gamified things i've been trying out at home on various smart watches and other types of stuff the two rides are what really get my interest the new tentpole ride is going to be mario kart koopas challenge now this is a big augmented reality enhanced roller coaster we knew that nintendo and universal were going to have a mario kart themed ride we just didn't really know a lot of the other details so the images and the sneak peeks that we got a peek at today show that it does look like a roller coaster and you're going to be wearing this type of a cap headset that's going to have two lenses that descend that are going to create augmented reality like the stuff you would see on a microsoft hololens or magic leap but done in a theme park setting so you should see some hovering things around you looking like other cars and enemies there's also going to be projection mapping technology so stuff around you there will be projectors that interact and if you've ever done any recent universal rides or in the past really in the past decade they use 3d glasses they use projection mapping and they can make it seem like things are floating around in 3d so it sounds like a more advanced version of that what's also interesting is that earlier this year and now available for sale is an augmented reality mario kart game for home mario kart live home circuit which allows you to look through the camera here and race in courses uh with ar effects overlaid it kind of sounds like this super nintendo world mario kart ride is going to be like a big super powered version of what this has uh except you're going to be able to actually feel like you're in it in the car and looking around and having all this other cool stuff happen they're going to be four people who are going to be allowed in a cart with you and the ride's supposed to take about five minutes now the other ride is called yoshi's adventure where you're gonna be riding along with captain toad to look for three eggs on this kind of like treasure hunting ride for two people in a little vehicle like a little yoshi vehicle that you're going to take around the park this sounds really cute and looks like it's designed for riders who are a little bit smaller so maybe may skew to a slightly younger age it also kind of sounds a bit like the men in black alien attack ride at universal studios where you're able to kind of treasure hunt and zap things i don't know if you're able to zap things whether you're gonna look for stuff how interactive that's going to be or there will just be a gentle ride but that's the other ride at super nintendo world that also is supposed to be about five minutes long so in addition to those two rides there are supposed to be a lot of other things you can do with the power up band to look for things that bowser jr has hidden in this kind of elaborate mini game that runs through the park uh also right reminds me in some ways of the stuff that star wars galaxy's edge has been doing interacting with phones and there's also supposed to be a lot of ways that you can just earn different band challenges throughout the park and have it interact with stuff there are also restaurants and gift shops we don't know about that but in terms of what particular shops or restaurants there are going to be but the aerial views and the peaks of the park right now really do look like some sort of a screen capture from a 3d mario game i feel like i'm i'm about to enter the level and there are coins and there are giant piranha plants and work pipes and all that kind of stuff uh you know that's the thing about a lot of these theme uh lands in theme parks is that they tend to usually have one or two tent pole rides and the rest is to explore and that's about it will that be enough to draw you in what i think is gonna be really interesting is to see when super nintendo world finally makes a move to come to the us as well to universal's parks and of course again i am not going to universal parks or disney parks right now but i i can't wait till i get back to one uh universal supposed to be expanding its florida theme park with a third park um we don't know much about nintendo's plans in that park at all but the one in japan is going to be the beginning of what will probably be an experience that will carry over in other places i'm really excited to see how the ar headset works on the ride and yeah sure i wear a lot of smart watches so i'm really curious about how the power-up band is going to function too will it be the sort of stuff that also could connect to other future nintendo games i have no idea right now i'm staying at home i'm playing a switch i'm playing with vr and i'm dreaming about theme parks hopefully somebody else is going to make a trip out there and get to check it out that's what we know about super nintendo world at the
