LG G4 vs iPhone 6 - Quick Look

The iPhone 6: A Solid but Not Impressive Android Competitor

The iPhone 6 is an Apple device that was released in 2015, featuring a 1.4 GHz A8 chip with just 1 GB of RAM. This may not seem like a lot compared to some Android devices, but it has been more than enough to provide a solid iOS experience and plenty of user satisfaction. The iPhone 6 is available in three storage options: 32 GB, 64 GB, and 128 GB, with no expandable storage option available. This lack of expandability may be a drawback for some users who need more storage space.

On the other hand, the LG G4 takes a different approach to hardware specifications. It features a Snapdragon 808 processor with 3 GB of RAM, which may not seem as impressive at first glance compared to the iPhone 6's A8 chip. However, LG worked closely with Qualcomm to optimize the 808 for the G4, resulting in a smooth Android experience on Lollipop.

The LG G4 has several hardware features that set it apart from the iPhone 6. It comes with a removable battery, which can provide up to 20 hours of talk time. Additionally, the phone's battery is replaceable, allowing users to have spare batteries on hand when needed. The G4 also features expandable storage via a microSD card slot, which is not typically found in flagships.

One notable difference between the iPhone 6 and LG G4 is the absence of a fingerprint reader on the G4. However, LG has confirmed that the phone's GPS sensor is one of the most accurate available, using a combination of sensors to provide precise location data. This suggests that while the lack of a fingerprint reader may be a drawback for some users, the G4 still offers many of the features and capabilities found in other high-end Android devices.

The iPhone 6 also has an 8-megapixel rear camera, which is one of the better performers available at the time of its release. The phone's camera also benefits from Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), but overall may be considered a bit modest compared to some other flagships. In contrast, the LG G4 offers a more noticeable upgrade over its predecessor, jumping from 13 to 16 megapixels and featuring an f/1.8 aperture lens. The G4 also includes OAS technology with a wider spectrum and color gamut sensor, which analyzes scenes to achieve accurate white balance.

The camera apps on both devices also offer different user experiences. The iPhone camera is relatively simple, with swipe gestures for accessing different modes on the viewfinder. In contrast, the LG G4 features a more comprehensive manual mode that includes histogram, manual focus, and the ability to shoot in raw and JPEG format simultaneously. Additionally, the G4's camera app offers a wide range of settings and options, including advanced white balance modes.

In terms of software, iOS 8 on the iPhone 6 brings several improvements over previous versions, including enhancements to iCloud, Apple Pay, and notifications. The iOS ecosystem is also known for its ease of use, quick updates, and hardware-software optimization. However, it's still early to evaluate LG's update cycle and how well they will support future software releases.

LG has put significant effort into optimizing their software, reducing lag and stuttering to a minimum. The phone's GUI looks similar to the Glex 2, but with improved performance and fewer issues. Additionally, LG has added several new features, including an enhanced calendar that can save captures from anywhere in the phone to dates, and a powerful Gallery app that groups photos into memories categories.

Finally, it's worth noting that LG has a close relationship with Google, which is reflected in many of the G4's features. The phone includes many of the same capabilities found in Nexus devices, making it an attractive option for users who value simplicity and ease of use. Overall, both the iPhone 6 and LG G4 offer unique strengths and weaknesses, but ultimately come down to individual user preferences and needs.
