Chuwi Lapbook SE Unboxing In-Depth First Look Review
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enThis right here is the Chuwi Lapbook SEI'm going to be unboxing and just do myinitial first impressions and a coupleof tests on so this one and the ticklast f5 which I should hopefully havenext week highly anticipated budgetlaptop so this at the moment at the timeof this video is has been selling forabout 259 us now what's interestingabout it it has a full metal design afully laminated 1080p panel 128 gigabyteSSD and as a 37 watt hour battery and itruns Windows 10 home on this now theweakness of this particular laptopexactly like the easy book x4 that Ilooked at where limited Tony fourgigabytes of RAM and sadly you cannotexpand upon that Ram now the keyboardone of the key selling features of thisis edge to edge so it has a little bitof you can say like a MacBook 12 look toit some people either like that or hatethat but it is a backlit keyboard youget inside the box so we've got thetypical chewy packaging here as you cansee the laptop and you can see on thetop it does have a Chuwi logo here and Ithink that the backlight from the IPSpanel is actually going to shine throughon this and it will be illuminated herewe have the warranty guarantee cards andwhatnot a Quick Start Guide so is DCcharging 12 volts 2 amps that's prettystandard this and no type-c charging onthis model and the version I got herehas the EU plug the laptop weighs 1point 43 kilos so it's actually a bitheavier than I expected it to be and thefull carry weight with the charger andthe plug brings it up to 1.6 2 kilos thethickness of a laptop isn't too bad it'sa 15 point 5 this is around the thickestpoint that's without the rubber feetwhen you add those rubber feet therethen that will come up now to about 17millimeters so the top of it has a nicesmooth alloy finish to it it is thatmatte gray that we have seen on otherproducts from them so after a while itwill actually end up showingfingerprints there I'll see if I canopen this up with one hand I don'tbelieve I can actually no you can openit up with one hand and there we havethat edge to edge keyboard so yes itdoes have a bit of an applethe 12-inch version look to it doesn'tit thing is styling of that with the HDHkeyboard now the touchpad is large itshould be using Windows precisiondrivers and this palm rest here to methat feels like it is plastic now eventhough this hinge can be opened upone-handed it's relatively stiff and itfeels like it is going to hold it I seewhat happens if you pick it up and moveitit might work around a little bit butI've noticed too because we've got thefully laminated glass on this that therewas no flex on this if you can'tactually move that if you try toforcefully move that you probably end upcracking the display on this andpressing down there's a little bit offlex down on that so our keyboard isbacklit and the power button it seems tohave the same level of resistance as allthe other buttons so hopefully I'm notgoing to end up tapping out when I gofor the Delete key I do like to see themmove this at least away from the actualkeyboard to separate them is a littlebit better for accidental presses ofthat power button but in the ceilingsand windows you can actually set it todo nothing so we've got control of thebacklit keyboard right here withfunction f5 has our brightness controlsand we've also got print screen which isgood to see and of course your page upand down now these keys do feel quitegood they've got a little bit of a curveinwards to these keys so giving it alittle bit bit of a feel and I love thefact that they've gone with the blackkeys and not silver silver it'ssometimes hard to read the actual textof those keys as I found with the jumpereasy book x4 there are three status LEDsup the top here you can see so one forpower one for caps-lock one for thetouchpad so the touchpad can be disabledbut function escaped and then that lightwill of course illuminate you can seethat when the screen is powered off thatyou can hardly make out the bezels youcan just see them the difference betweenat least here I can but on camera alittle bit harder to see there so thisis both a pro and a con the glossyscreen tends to make color stand out alittle bit better but of course you'regonna get the reflections everywherehaving this glass on here so I preferpersonally to have a matte screen but itdoes make it look a little bit morepremium now you notice that the edgesaround here what they've done is they'verounded them off a little bit and thatfeels like a plastica plastic insert around here overall sofar the build quality and the finish isreally quite good considering its 259price we're at the top there is a 720pHD webcam so 4 ports on the right sidehere we have a USB 3 port 3.5 millimeterheadphone jack with mic supports andthen a micro SD card slot then on theLeft we have HDMI 2.0 a we have DC inthere for charging with the status LEDand another USB 3 port on the back of itwe do have a plastic strip here now thiscould be for the wireless antennasreception but those antennas areprobably located around the screen thenthe bottom of the laptop you will findfour rubber feet and the screws to holdin a metal housing so in order to removethe case you must remove the two rubberfeet on the end and remove all of thescrews don't forget this one here thatis also under the sticker and then youcan easily pry off that back so up thetop like some of the other models I havelooked at we have four speakers nowthese speakers will fire out from justabove the keyboard and it does have a 38what our battery here good with withChewie here going with that larger size20 to 80 size SSD these are not onlyfaster they are also cheaper when you'resourcing a replacement the wirelessantennas are routed up through into thescreen so I believe they're either onthe back of the IPS panel perhaps aroundthe chui logo or there could be aroundthe bezels the wireless chip is an Intel3165 this is very common so it's dualband wireless and they have glued thoseantennas in place under the heatsink youwill see our chipset there they've justused a thermal pad they haven't gonewith thermal paste on this so I'll findout later on if the thermals are goingto be good if not you may have to go inhere and re paste it will put paste onit because it's lacking that and thenyou can also put a thermal pad on top ofthis copper heatsink here now you'll seethat where they have the chipset cut outhere it doesn't actually line up withwhere it is the location you can seethat clearly when you put that over thetop and that isn't lining up there righthere we have a 32 gigabyte Samsung emmcbelow that as the bias chip if you needto flash it this is a win bond chip soyou can connect a clip up to this ifsomehow brick the bias the RAM must beon the other side of the motherboard sowe do have rather large bezels on thetop the side bezels they're a little bitslimmer than what you typically see onthis kind of price range but it's to beexpected remember that this is 259 usour ram speeds you can see there wellit's two thousand 133 megahertz not thefastest supported which is 2400 thisBIOS the good news is is completelyunlocked to us and that means we do haveaccess to things like the power limitsbut for some reason when you go alongand disable it the setting doesn't seemto take now I've experienced this withthe jumper x4 you have to then use aswell the software override methods haveboth combined then completely unlocksthose power limits but of course watchthe thermals that it doesn't get too hotso Windows is just now setting up Iwanted to point out here with a clearblue screen you can see we do have lightleakage is exactly the same as the corebox you notice at the top that it's aslightly lighter blue there around thoseedges and this is something that theseIPS panels typically have it's due tothe process of the optical bonding whenthey bond the glass on top of that IPSpanel that this can often happen so youcan see set up languages we've got quitea few here we've got English GermanSpanish French Italian Chinese Russianand Korean here is a look at that reallogo so it's using a clear plastic andyou get the back of the IPS panels backlight shining through with a very brightchewy so some people are gonna like thisothers not so much now taking a look atthe display so when you're displayingimages like this with the black borderseither side you can't see the sidebezels there and the screen doesactually look really good so if I'mliking it better than the jumper easybook X display because it was a TNpanels had really poor viewing angles sothe screen it doesn't actually reclineback that's a maximum angle which isreally not a lot to show you from theside so you can see there that reallyneeds to be a little bit more I feel butso far liking it now the screen tops outat 210 lux that I just measured so it'snot the brightest panel however becauseit is fully laminated it does actuallylook pretty good pretty bright forindoor use now outdoors it's gonna belittle bit harder to make out what is onthe screen because really you need amatte screen for that inbright environments there right now dohave powerful studio lights on anothergood thing here too that I like is thescreen brightness so you can actuallylow it down very low and you'll see herethat right now that is about five Luxthat I measured not even that too youcan see there's a little bit of flickerhappening now this is pulse widthmodulation controlling the brightnessthis flicker is only on camera okay whenI am looking at this now I can't seeanything it seems fine to me seeing upthat then again to right up to the 210Lux so to show you quickly just a coupleof other images here that it is a Ithink it's a nice looking screenconsidering the price if you'rewondering about the windows license wellWindows 10 home and yes it is fullyactivated the version of it is 1709 sonot the latest you will need to runWindows Update as you can see zoom rightinto the screen so if you get closeenough you will kind of make out pixelsbut at normal viewing distance you'renot gonna see anything so you probablyspotted it what are they doing - whyhave they done this so they've installedwindows on that 32 gigabyte II MMC and Ithink I know the reason why they havedone this so they have another modelthat's from the same manufacturer thesame ODM and that's going to have just32 gigabytes storage and then this speara blank SSD slot so that is why this ishappening so when you get that othermodel I think it's called the Alpha wiseit's going to be solved by gearbestyou can just install the drive you wantbut right here we just got the SSDcompletely unused and everyone knowsthat you should have the operatingsystem running off the fastest drive soyou're gonna have to use a tool like Macreham and that is the free version thatyou can clone that over and then go backinto the BIOS once you've cloned it andset this to be the boot device and thisis a different annoyance that you haveto do this oh and the micro SD card slotit is running at a maximum of about 26to 27 reads so it's not a high speed oneand I've been testing out my oneterabyte drive here so I am getting fulltransfer speeds USB 3 speeds from bothof the USB 3 ports and of course thekeyboard is backlit as mentioned sothat's the first level which isn'tthat bright it's good for I guess savingon the battery and then this is thesecond setting the highest brightersetting overall I feel it's quite goodconsidering the price of this laptop nowthe touchpad I'm happy to report that itis as I mentioned before a precision oneand accuracy is good even the finestslightest little movements seem to befine this groaning as well on it now themouse buttons click East are left andright and overall it seems a decenttouchpad I do like the size of it aswell Linux Mint this is working wellWireless is working screen brightnesscontrols to those who are working soundeverything's working including thetouchpad the left and right mousebuttons so no issues they're really goodthis is the latest Linux Mint bill bythe way onto audio now things arelooking positive I just tested out the3.5 millimeter headphone jackreally good there is no staticwhatsoever it is clean and a nice decentoutput of the volume to through that Ifound that the Jimmy Lake seems to havestepped things up a little bit in termsof sound it was the old the Apollo dateswere better as well quite good but itwas some of those teary trails andthings that always seemed to have staticover them not the case here now I testout the speakers but first I just wantedto show you how you can boost the volumeof them a little that is to go into therealtek settings and find this righthere so equalizer set they're toopowerful and that will boost up thevolume about 4 to 5 dis aboutyeah okay as expected not wonderful thevolume is okay after my little tweak butthere's just no base to these littlespeakers whatsoever so they don't soundthat great the tribbles there there'smeds the battery checks out at the 37watt hours that they claim you know onthe back I read 38 but that is whateveryone else is using and it'sbasically 10,000 milliamp hours so we'regetting estimated battery life of aboutseven to eight hours now my experiencewith this chipset already the batterycapacity I think more around say six toseven hours of battery life you canexpect to get out of these now if youwere to use it on that really low superlow lowest absolute setting ofbrightness then I think you know maybeyou might be able to squeeze it out toten hours but you can hardly see thisscreen though in normal conditionsperformance of the laptop the laptop sehere is as expected so the single corescore here in Geekbench four that's goodmulti-core score that's a little low Isuspect some minor throttling isactually happening we're not reallythrottling but it's clocking down soI've just been looking at thetemperatures now for the last 20 minutesor so when actually no that's beenrunning for thirty minutes and I've gotmaximum temps of 85 degrees when it'sidle right now that lowers down quitequickly to about 39 40 degrees and myaverage temperature has been 63 I'vebeen running Windows updates and stresstesting and things like that just to getit quite warm now I do expect this toactually exceed 85 with gaming and testslike that so it's a definite candidate Ifeel for my copper heatsink mod theyshould have put a thermal pad on theback I believe between the copperheatsink and the rear casing that wouldprobably lower temperatures a good 5 to10 degrees know the RAM is running indual channel according to theinformation HW info also says to yourchannel and 4 gigabytes of RAM is thatgoing to be enough for you well for alot of people I feel it actually issurprisingly because I've been using ajumper eggs ebook x4 for quite some timeand with 4 gigabytes light use it'sactually fine it's not too much of anissue if you open up like 20 tabs inChrome then yes you will run intoswapping you will run into a little bitof slowdown but Ifeel it would really be the sweet spotif we had eight gigabytes with thismodel chewy they need to push out an 8gigabyte model of this particular laptopso this is the chewy lab Borghese and sofar there are a lot of positives to thismachine the build quality is good theinternal build quality as well when youlook at everything and has that metalinternal frame that's supporting thekeyboard to stop any flex thereeverything's screwed into place quitewell we have a large battery that'sgoing to be good for I feel up to aboutseven hours of use their wireless AC theaerial is going up on here the screensquite nice now it's not the brightestscreen but overall very nice to look atindoors it's going to be perfectly fineat it's 210 Lux and I do love the factthat we've got a backlit keyboard andhave got a good combination of a verylow screen brightness so it's gonna beperfect for using this for example on anairplane you're on a long-haul flightand they've got all the shutters downthe lights are often things you can puton the last brightness been watching amovie using the keyboard typing orsomething like that and it's not goingto hurt your eyes and the battery thenshould probably last for maybe eveneight hours on that super low sittingthere now one thing with the heatsink alittle bit funny there that they put andlike a compression little pad on thereto keep pressure on the heatsink and sofar temperatures up to 85 I think thatshould we should have put a thermal panon there I believe I might have to do mycopper heatsink mod on this just toimprove the thermals and get betterperformance overall now another thing isthey've got the large SSD with very goodspeeds on here but they did that reallysilly move of installing Windows 10 -the emmc drive now for some people thatants tikkis they're not really up tospeed with everything like this perhapssay your grandmother or your mother oryour father they might have a bit of aproblem then moving that over andcloning it over to the SSD which is whatreally needs to be done hopefully trueis going to change that in the futureand of course the four gigabytes of RAMthey need to up there to eight I believeif they release a version of this witheight gigabytes of RAM and they improveon the heatsink they put a thermal padthere hopefully Chewie are you listeningeight gigabytes around that right thereinstall windows on the SSD they I feelhave one of the best then budget laptopespecially for the pricenow obviously if they put the eightgigabytes of RAM on there that willincrease the price probably up to justunder 300 u.s. but it would be worth itto see that so far really liking itother positives keyboards very nice totype on I do like it the spacing of itis good it's backlit as I mentionedtouch pad it also works out well andthat is good it's large windowsprecision drivers there HDMI to spec soI'm running my TV I can run my monitorat home then as well and at the full 60Hertz that's not all lag in choppy thatis great so really as a package there'sa lot of things that are good on thisthat are going for it and really I mustsay that this is definitely in the topthree this has surpassed the jumper easybook x4 definitely better than that oneit's now between this model I feel andthen the tick glass if five that f5model I should have next week and dolook out for a video that my latestvideo is also right up here and do checkout my video of the jumper easy book x4if you're interested in a cheaperversion of the Gemini Lake budgetlaptops thank you so much for watchingthis video bye for now\n"
