6 Reasons You Should Set Up iCloud Family Sharing, Right Now

**Intelligent Photo Sharing**

One of the most exciting features of Family Sharing is intelligent photo sharing. This feature allows you to automatically sync all your photos to a shared Library, which can be accessed by everyone in your family. However, if you don't want to share certain photos with others, you always have manual control over it. Whenever you're using the camera app and are at home or out and about, any photos you take will be synced to the shared Library overnight. You can change this setting directly from the camera app in the Photos app by hitting the yellow Family Sharing icon.

If you don't want to use Family Sharing for your photos, you can always move pictures to the shared library after the fact or pull them back into your personal library. And, if you save images from the web or take screenshots, those will not be automatically added to the shared Library. You can read all about how to set this up by clicking here or using the link in the description.

**Location Sharing**

Another superpower of Family Sharing is location sharing. When everyone's out and about, getting back together can feel like a puzzle. But, with Family Sharing, you can see where everybody is, which can be a huge bit of Peace of Mind. You can open the Find My app to see where everybody is. You can also see it directly from an iMessage conversation. And, you can even add a widget to your home screen.

But, that's not all. Family Sharing also enables another superpower: you can forcibly ring the speakers of someone else's iPhone or Apple watch if you're trying to find a lost device or just need to get their attention. From the Find My app, hit the Devices tab, tap on a specific device, and you can just hit play sound. It is much louder than the sound that plays when you try to Ping your phone from your watch.

**Parental Controls**

Family Sharing also comes with powerful parental controls. How much you choose to do is highly personal, but there are tools at your disposal. If you're all in on the Apple ecosystem, for example, you can set up a child with just an Apple Watch. You'll be able to see their location with it strapped to their wrist. You'll also be able to text them call them without giving them the full power of a smartphone.

Setting up an iPhone or iPad on their behalf is still incredibly easy. And, you have the power to limit their screen time, contacts, and internet access. I also recommend setting up Ask to Buy, which lets them request purchases on the App Store for apps or in-app purchases that you can approve or deny without giving them the full frightening power of an unmitigated credit card on their Apple ID.

**Backing Up to iCloud**

Another feature that will help you rest easy at night is backing up to iCloud. Having a full nightly backup means that a replacement device can be set up exactly as the old one was the night before, and not everybody needs to buy their own storage in Settings > Family > Subscriptions > iCloud Plus. You can buy one plan that's shared amongst everyone to save money.

**Sharing Services**

Finally, if some people in your family want to buy a new game or subscribe to a new service, you might not need to buy it separately for everyone in your family. Just go to Settings > Family > Purchase Sharing and some apps and games and subscription services will be shared amongst everybody in the group. Wherever developers have enabled it, just look for the Supports Family Sharing label in the App Store.
