Welcome to Handmade: A Space to Express Yourself
As you enter this space, I want to acknowledge that my background is a little bland today, but that's exactly the point of this video. We're going to explore the world of decorative wall art trends and wall art designs, and as a renter, I feel like I'm often left out. But today, we're going to try our hand at creating a paintable removable wallpaper wall arch. Wall arches are one of my favorite design trends right now, and I truly believe they can elevate any space. So, let's get started on this creative journey.
Measuring Up
Before we begin, we need to measure carefully. The length of the arch will be about 5 feet, and the total width of the base is going to be 20 inches. To mark these measurements, I'll start by marking the center of the width at 10 inches. Next, I'll measure up another 10 inches to determine where the top of the arch should begin. It's essential to take your time with this step, as accuracy will make a big difference in the final result.
Drawing the Arch
Now it's time to draw the arch. I've found that starting at the side points and drawing upwards makes this process much easier. To achieve even lines, I'll use a piece of string with a knot tied around the end of my pencil. This will help me maintain consistency as I draw the shape. The string is about 10 inches long, which seems perfect for this task. With patience and attention to detail, we can create an arch that looks almost too good to be true.
Cutting Out the Arch
Once I've completed the drawing, it's time to cut out the arch. This is the part of the process where sharp scissors come into play. Make sure you use a pair with very sharp blades to achieve smooth edges and prevent any unevenness. By following these simple steps, we can create an arch that's both beautiful and sturdy.
Adding an Arch and a Semi-Circle
As I was working on my initial arch, I realized that I wanted to add another shape to the design. To change it up a bit, I decided to add a semi-circle to complement the arch. This added element brings an extra layer of visual interest to our design and creates a beautiful balance between the two shapes.
Painting the Arch and Semi-Circle
Now that we have both shapes cut out, it's time to give them some color. I'll be using acrylic-based paint, but you can choose any type that suits your preferences. To ensure a smooth finish, apply thin even coats of paint, allowing each layer to dry completely before adding the next. This step may take some time, but trust me when I say it's worth it.
Applying the Wallpaper
With our arch and semi-circle painted, it's now time to bring them to life by applying the removable wallpaper. Begin rolling it out section by section, smoothing out each area as you go. Remember to work slowly and carefully to avoid any bubbles or wrinkles. We've got a handy hack for removing bubbles – simply use a credit card to gently smooth them out without applying too much pressure.
The Final Result
As we step back to admire our handiwork, I couldn't be happier with how everything has come together. The paintable removable wallpaper wall arch and semi-circle add a touch of elegance and sophistication to this space, making it perfect for renters or anyone who's hesitant to fully commit to a design. "WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey everyone welcome back to handmade i'm gabriella and i know my background it's a little bland today and that is exactly the point of this video i see so many decorative wall art trends and wall art designs and honestly as a renter i feel a little left out so today i'm going to try to make a paintable removable wallpaper wall arch wall arches are honestly one of my favorite design trends right now and i really think they can just elevate any space i'm a little concerned about making the arch perfectly even and there's going to be a lot of measuring that i need to do and it's not really my strong point but we're going to give it a try and i think it's going to look cute either way so let's get started you're gonna start by unrolling your removable wallpaper and taping the edges down so it's secure i'm using wallpaper that i can actually paint on but this is definitely just a preference it's not necessary for this project the length of the arch will be about 5 feet and the total width of the base is going to be 20 inches so mark the center of the width at 10 inches i'm making these marks where i'll want the arch to start curving next measure up another 10 inches and that'll be the top of the arch now i cut a piece of string in about 12 inches so i have a little extra room to work with tie a knot around the end of a pencil this will make this way easier to draw evenly once the knot is tied the string is about 10 inches long which is perfect now it's time to draw the arch i think it's easiest to start at the side points and draw up from there pull down the end of the string in the center point and draw the shape this was definitely the hardest part for me i think this looks close to perfect and i'll just clean it up when i cut it out make sure to use really sharp scissors for this just trim the edges to make it as smooth as possible and that's it your arch is cut out so i decided last minute that i wanted a little more than just one arch so i'm gonna add a semi-circle to change it up a bit again roll out some more removable wallpaper and tape down the edges for this one the base of the shape is 30 inches so mark halfway through at 15 inches using the same string and pencil technique hold down the string and draw the half circle this one was way easier than the arch now just cut out the shape and clean the edges if you're using wallpaper you can paint on make sure to check what kind of paint works best with the wallpaper you have i'm using an acrylic based paint if you're not painting you can just skip this step smoothly roll on the paint for a thin even coat let it dry for about one hour before adding another coat and let it all dry overnight for the semi-circle i'm using this pretty pink color same thing as before paint on a thin coat and let it dry for about one hour before applying your second coat let it all dry overnight so now that the paint is dry it's time to apply the wallpaper carefully roll it on section by section smoothing it out as you go it's always best to work slowly we have tons of videos showing how to do this step by step and i'll make sure to link those to this video a good hack to remove any bubbles is to carefully smooth them out with a credit card make sure not to apply too much pressure because you don't want to trip the paint now do the same thing with the semi-circle apply it slowly and smooth it out and that's it all done i am loving how this came out it honestly just looks so good in this room and it really is such a great option for renters or even someone who's just not ready to fully commit to a design would you try this let me know in the comments below but if you are someone who's looking for something a little bit more
