After Fixing Everything On The Mr2 It Was Still Broke

The Mysterious Noise in the Engine

We recently encountered a mysterious noise in our engine that has been plaguing us for days. The noise is coming from one of the cylinders, and we've tried to diagnose the issue with various tests, including compression checks, borescoping, and even swapping out injectors, plugs, and coils. Despite our best efforts, we just can't seem to pinpoint the source of the problem.

We started by removing the injectors one by one to see if that would help us identify the source of the noise. To our surprise, it was number one injector that seemed to be causing the issue. But when we removed it, the noise stopped immediately. We're not sure what could have caused the noise in the first place, but removing the injector seemed to fix the problem.

We've inspected every aspect of the engine, including the rocker assembly, timing chain tensioner, and even considered the possibility of a faulty rod bearing. However, we couldn't find anything that would explain the source of the noise. It's as if the noise is coming from within the engine itself, but we're not sure what could be causing it.

The diagnosis process has been ongoing for days, and we've had to put our plans on hold while we try to figure out what's going on. We were hoping to use this time to work on other projects, but instead, we're stuck trying to fix the mysterious noise in our engine. It's frustrating, but we're determined to get to the bottom of it.

We've tried various methods to diagnose the issue, including using a ejector to listen for the sound and plugging and unplugging components to see if that would change the noise. In one test, we plugged in the ejector while the engine was running, and when we did, the noise started again. However, when we plugged it back in and removed the ejector, the noise stopped. It's a weird phenomenon, but it gives us hope that we might be able to fix the issue.

We've come to realize that sometimes, the most frustrating problems can be the simplest ones. We're hoping that once we've torn apart the engine, we'll be able to find the source of the problem and fix it easily. However, if it's something more complex, we'll have to take it one step at a time.

One thing is certain - our engine has become a puzzle that we need to solve. We're committed to getting to the bottom of it and will continue to work on it until it's fixed. In the meantime, we'll be keeping an eye on it and monitoring its performance closely.

The Car Still Runs Well

Despite the mysterious noise, the car is still running well. The engine is producing plenty of power, and the training feels great. We're just frustrated that we can't seem to fix the problem without having to tear the head apart. However, once we've diagnosed and fixed the issue, we'll be back to racing in no time.

We appreciate our fans' support during this challenging time. Without your encouragement and enthusiasm, we wouldn't be able to continue pursuing our passion for racing. We're grateful for your understanding and will keep you updated on our progress.

A Surprise - The Valve Giveaway

As a surprise, we'll be giving away one of the valves from the engine that's been at the center of this mystery. If you'd like to enter, simply visit our website and order something from us. We'll randomly select one winner and ship out the valve as part of their order.

We're excited about this opportunity to give back to our fans and share a piece of our racing experience with them. It's a small gesture, but we hope it will bring a smile to your face and remind you that even in the midst of frustration, there is always something to be grateful for.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enthere is definitely a noise all right guys we're doing a small giveaway every time we have bent valves in the mr2 we've had to take the head off uh get all the valves replaced and i have collected quite a few of the old used ones and instead of throwing these away you know we're kind of digging through some stuff i was like what should we do with these uh we decided to clean them up and sign them and actually give them away to you guys so i took each one of these just to a wire wheel because they kind of had some gunk on them sat down signed the bottom of each valve here and all you have to do for a chance to win one of these valves that came out of the mr2 is uh go on to the website theboostedboys.com and it doesn't matter if you order a sticker hat shirt whatever it is as long as you place an order you'll have a chance to win one of these valves and uh yeah i thought it would be pretty cool to give these back to you guys i think almost all of these have been eight seconds so here is a intake valve i signed the bottom of these with a black sharpie because they're a little shinier and then all of the exhaust valves i did with a silver shirt or a silver sharpie so if you guys want a chance to win one of the valves out of the mr2 all you got to do is go on the website grab something and we'll start sending these out as soon as you guys are watching this video right now what's up guys it is time to get the mr2 back up and operational we have the engine all put back together along with the transmission with the new bell housing fresh head gasket on the engine there and we just made sure everything is looking up to par because we have put a lot of run time on this thing and everything's looking good so we're ready to stick all of this back into the car and get it ready for this event this weekend so we got the engine back into the mr2 and right now we are making braces so we don't crack the bell housing again why it's over there grinding away cutting out some uh tabs but we got the mid plate back on there and what we are doing right now is we are going to build off the spots that were meant for motor mounts so right here and there um that is where one of the mounts used to be before we did the mid plate came off that guy going to uh the back of the firewall there and then we also had a mount that came off of this guy that went to these two holes right here so what we're gonna do is just take a quarter inch steel plate and we are going to have that guy bolt to these two holes that are right here on the case that are very uh beefy made for motor mounting and that will come down to our existing hole right here on the towel because the tabs showed no signs of stress or breaking so we think the tabs are going to be plenty strong we'll have a piece come down off of that and then we're going to have another piece of steel plate come down off of that guy yeah um yeah that one right there you know right to it you know it's going to make a nice uh triangle we're going to triangulate the thingamajig and uh it should be good to go be real strong yep yep you know yep you know you know what we're doing so yep that's what we're doing are you making a pass for me jason yeah man i'll try it let's see you pull right yeah just pull straight back oh it feels nice dude quit dry shifting the transmission are you freaking kidding me that's exactly how it goes and then you click second and then you look through there and you see the back now you can just keep looking through the windshield and you'll see the sky well if you look at this you'll see why in the back like this you'd be like why do you do this again and just like that we have ourselves a couple of added supports so we have this tab that comes off of the transmission and block right there that ties into our existing tab that was already there and then this one back here goes from that tab to the back of the transmission there the motor tries to twist in there uh this way so that is going to keep that from coming up and then this one is going to help support it from trying to come down and then with the mid plate added in the middle we should be good to go so last night we got the mr2 pretty much all put back together i just need to get this charge pipe on right here get the am lines ran to the catch can top it off with coolant and we are good to go but i just got oil put in here got fluid into the transmission and real quick i'm just going to start this thing up make sure everything sounds all right let's go ahead and give her a crank uh huh that doesn't sound too good oh there's definitely a noise hmm that's odd well guys unfortunately i will not be making it to import face-off in the mr2 i was getting everything loaded up it's about seven in the morning right now got the trailer even hooked up to the truck and i was ready to go but just ran out of time still have to eat gas the event is over two hours away and if it was a little closer i'd send it regardless but the car isn't 100 i would still like to do a little bit of testing before just loading this thing up and going because as you guys saw in that last clip i fired this thing up and there's a little bit of a noise coming from the valve train had to diagnose it for quite some time my buddy jason came over and we actually didn't find out exactly what it was uh we pulled everything apart uh checked the timing chain tensioner checked all the rocker assembly checked everything and put it all back together we let the car heat up the noise was still there but after the car heated up uh the noise seemed to just kind of go away so maybe something just needed to kind of settle in i don't know but you know revved it up good drove it down the street everything felt good got into power so the car felt all right to me but it still wasn't 100 and like i said with how far this event is i just decided to uh call it there i'm super tired and i know you guys will understand but i'm probably just gonna go back to bed for a little bit and we'll find something else to do today so it is the next day didn't go to the event and i took the rest of the day off because i just did not want to deal with messing with this car but i've been working on it today trying to figure out what this noise is and i found something pretty interesting i'm gonna let you guys hear it and you'll probably see why i decided not to take it to the event because it is pretty bad but like i said we revved it up and the noise goes away at high rpm drove it down the street felt great got into power felt fine but this noise is really weird and i just found out that if i unplug the injector to the number one cylinder or the coil and just stop combustion from happening um the noise goes away and it is really weird because it's almost missing on idle and that's how i found this issue i could hear that a cylinder wasn't firing 100 on idle and i unplugged all the injectors one by one to uh hear which one wasn't changing that and it turns out it was number one and right when i did that the noise went away and it's just it's just really weird we've got the valve cover off so many times we've looked at every possible little thing and it's getting to the point where i think the rocker assembly's gonna have to come apart to uh really see what this noise is but i'm just gonna let you guys hear real quick fire her up all right so right now you can hear it's down a cylinder because i have this ejector unplugged right now and now listen when i plug this back in you can hear it kicking hear that and then the noise stops plug it back in unplug it noise goes away really weird super weird so yeah i have no idea what is causing the noise i mean we have a general idea but been looking at this thing all day and it is just at the point where we're gonna have to tear the head apart a little bit double check some things i literally have no idea what it is what'd you think wit destination yeah so freaking thing yeah another thing to mention is we did a lot of diagonal dude diagnosing yeah compression we diagnosed a lot like you said borescope compression check everything was good yeah we went over the rocker yeah like four times yeah double checked everything inspected everything checked the timing chain tensioner maybe we thought the chain was loose i i don't know what it is it's a super weird noise swapping injectors plugs coils yep you guys will probably name things in the comments oh it's this it's that like we've tried everything i have no idea what it is um you know like we've thought even rod bearing you know everything we've thought of every little thing but it sounds like it's definitely something in the head it doesn't sound serious like i said the car rips down the street all the power is there i can guarantee that but i don't know what that noise is so that's why i wasn't too worried about it because we inspected everything i was like let's just go to the event and send it if it breaks then at least we'll see what it was um but then after i was like you know this is a two-hour drive i don't want to go all the way over there it just breaks first pass but everything else is good you know the training feels great when i drove it it just has this weird noise so that's why we've been uh kind of behind the last few days i've just been trying to figure out what this thing is and i really didn't want to have to tear the whole thing back apart so if we just had the engine out you know it's weird that's the life boys it went together so smooth like it's not like oh we're questioning something going together with it after doing the head gasket like it went down perfectly went together great you know no standout issues like something concerned about or nothing so weird so yeah not the uh video i wanted to put out for you guys i was hoping we'd be out there ripping at ifo but we're gonna have to uh look into this thing and for now that's just where it's at yeah i don't feel like dealing with this thing right now we've put so much time into it the last couple days but i'm sure it's something simple we'll just have to keep diagnosing it hopefully it's something simple but uh yeah race car life if you just get to that point you're burnt out on it yeah that much time working on it the last time i'm ready to work on something else freaking card i was up so late getting it ready guys i was so pumped to go but man she's being weird definitely not how i wanted this video to go guys but that's just what it is wanted to keep you all in the loop and give an update on the car since the last video you saw we were doing a push to get it ready for this event so i didn't just want to not talk about it and this is just a little behind the scenes of what it takes sometimes with these freaking race cars especially when you're trying to push things to the limit but we got the bellhousing and all that stuff fixed the training like i said feels awesome so you know just one thing led to another we'll get it pulled apart get it fixed and keep going from there that will be for another day and also if you guys want a chance to win one of the valves out of this thing uh be sure to go grab something off the website and we'll be sending those out with orders starting now so appreciate the support and uh hopefully the next video will be a little more interesting and it's not just working on broken race cars so we'll see you guys later youthere is definitely a noise all right guys we're doing a small giveaway every time we have bent valves in the mr2 we've had to take the head off uh get all the valves replaced and i have collected quite a few of the old used ones
