Books I Wish I'd Gotten to in 2023 _ VLOGMAS DAY 12

The Challenge of Reading My Physical TBR

I've been trying to dwindle down my physical TBR list, which I have discussed in more detail when I'm doing my wrap-up of everything that I'll talk about in the new year. As I continue to get rid of these books and make time for them now, it's really helping me to read them faster. I feel like there was something obvious that had happened to me, something that made this book be a thing because I don't usually forget like the entirety of a book like that. It felt like a little bit of setup, a little slow going, whatever. Because of having read it before and not necessarily getting really sucked into it, it's been really hard for me to compel myself to pick it up and read it.

I'm hoping with this and a lot of these books that some of them will then be more enticing because I've gotten other things off my shelf. This will make the time for these now, so yeah, I'm hoping if I try this and I don't get into it, then I'll probably just give up on this one. Then, I can continue with his new series that's like a Norse kind of book, um. But, yeah, I have a number of people whose tastes align to mine that say they really enjoyed the series as they got into it. So, we'll see.

The Rebel Series by Landon L. Lewis

I really wanted to continue with this series this year and did not get to it, which is sad. But, I did pick up an autograph copy at my local bookstore, which was on Independent Bookstore Day, maybe when I picked this up um but yeah, I wanted to continue with this. This was also on my list of goals to get to before the end of the year and I sadly did not. But, this is like the only thing I wasn't able to do so yeah, this is a very fun sci-fi series uh and I want to continue with it. I'm tempted to reread the first book at some point but again that's a decision for later.

The Hugo Award and Its Impact on My Reading Plans

This year, because it was like so late in the year by time everything was happening and all my reading was happening for it that it threw off some of my plans. The second half of the year is always just like a wash but anyway I know that sounds very dramatic but like I feel like Hugo season hits and Halloween hits and then it's just like the end of the year like for me okay. And, finally, the last book that I wanted to get to in 2023 but did not was The Mask of Mirrors by Ma Carrick.

This is the start of a dark fantasy series with like nightmare magic and a con artist, and I hear it's kind of gay. This is the Rook and Rose Trilogy, I think this is the one that someone said has like tarot cardish magic um but anyway sounds great sounds great. I have the first two books in this series on my shelf and would like to get to them. I can see myself prioritizing these early in the year in 2024 so yeah those are the things that I especially wanted to get to in 2023 and did not but I can see myself prioritizing in 2024 um especially the not biggest ones.

My Vlogmas Goals for 2023

I'm still hoping to have a few more videos before the end of the year and just kind of like continue the vlogmas train. I was almost going to do vlogmas until the whole end of the year but honestly I don't have a ton of time and I want to enjoy my time off. I'm taking some time off of work um but I do think that I will get a bunch of videos kind of ready to go for the new year so you'll see a lot of me or like at least more of me in uh January because you guys know that the end of the year beginning of the year and like middle of the year are my favorite times for making bookish content so you will see more of my face. Thank you all for watching and I'll see all you guys soon bye\\n

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey guys it's Sam welcome back to the last day of vlogmas and today I want to talk about the books that I wish I had gotten to this year in 20203 that I did not these I believe I believe are all books that were on my TBR at the beginning of the year and I didn't get to them so I had the goal of finishing everything on my TBR fysical TBR that didn't quite happen these are some of the things that are left over these are probably some of the only things that are left over so you will sort of know what I didn't get to but these are the things that I really wanted to prioritize and we'll probably be prioritizing hopefully I mean one there's an exception here um there I'm going to need your guys' help with one of them but these are the things that I can see myself reading very quickly within the first half of the year next year so the first one I talked about recently in my reacting to the books that were on my most anticipated of 2023 and that is a day of Fallen Night by Samantha Shannon this I had every intention of reading like I really did I know it's so chunky and that's sometimes what puts me off but I I can read hard things I can read chunky things I can read things that take a while I truly I truly thought I was going to get to this this year I don't know I just kept seeing it and being like like look at how big that is on a shelf it's like almost the size of my face like it's just like it's scary um so I didn't get to this I really want to first half of 2024 I promise and then we have The Unbroken by SE Clark this is part of the safic trifecta or just like safic fantasy books that people really love and adore and I really wanted to get to this this sounds really good it's debut fantasy at safic as I said this is like a political Intrigue fantasy in a lot of ways wartime there's Rebellion there's uh someone who's like a traitor to the crown trying to get the crown a soldier all the things so I've heard really great things about this I really want to get to it in the new year I mean that's going to be true of all of these then I don't know what I'm going to do about this series um I I want to get to it Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson why are these books so so goddamn long I even have them broken into two to be less intimidating because this is how the UK books come UK editions of these I read the first book uh in The Stormlight Archives which I'm even forgetting the name of it now why am I forgetting the name of it way of Kings I had to turn around look at it I read that in 2020 I enjoyed it probably not super enjoyed it until the end like it was a good experience but it had like the Brandon Sanderson ending whatever now I'm like has it been long enough that before I even get to Words of Radiance I'll have to reread way of Kings maybe and then how long will it take me to get to Words of Radiance again because well I really read two Stormlight books next year I don't know part of me really does want to conquer the chunky fantasy books like the chunky fantasy series next year um because the ones I have read I have a good time with them I know I like them I just it's so large that when I see this I'm like there's other things I can get to uh so yeah is someone doing a readalong or something I don't know I need maybe I'll be like guys let's all do this together maybe I'll devote an entire to topple to us don't ask me about to topple uh I don't know I'm going to organize it I don't have time um I want to read it I do I do I want to I want to um I am in control of my own destiny I could reread way of Kings on audio but it's such a long audio book that I don't even know if I could get to that I would have to buy it because the time it will take me I will not finish it in the library checkout time yeah just help if you guys have read this series which I know many of you have how do you convince yourself to do it even though you know it's good it's just going to take so much time and in the time that I can read this book I can probably read two or three other books and it's just a lot but I I do I wanted to I do I still want to yeah I didn't read any Brandon Sanderson this year and I do want to read some more next year uh because there's been some new releases and things that I want to continue with series and whatever another series that I wanted to start and didn't get to and I'm not like super shocked about this because there's a little bit of like a barrier to entry on this for me and that is malice uh the first book in the faithful the Fallen by John Gwyn and this is a book that I Tried reading I think in 2019 or 2020 and couldn't really get into I mean I think yeah I have my I have my bookmark in here I almost got 200 pages in could not tell you a single thing that happened yeah I got 186 pages I don't know I know nothing um so this left my brain but I felt like something obviously had happened to me uh something was going on that made that be a thing because I don't usually forget like the entirety of a book like that so I felt like I would like it um I have heard from people who really like the series that the first book is
