Tokyo motor show round-up _ evo MOTOR SHOWS

The Tokyo Motor Show 2015 was an exciting event that brought together car enthusiasts and industry professionals from around the world. As I made my way through the crowded halls, I couldn't help but notice the numerous displays of new cars, concept vehicles, and innovative technologies on show.

I stopped by the Toyota stand, where I caught a glimpse of the S FR, a small car that was shrouded in mystery. While details about the car were scarce, its appearance was certainly striking - with its very yellow and high-lighter yellow paint job, it stood out amidst the sea of other vehicles on display. Unfortunately, my attempts to bend my legs around the steering wheel were thwarted by the tight space, but it was a nice touch to see that Toyota had included seating for passengers who wanted to take a break from driving.

Next, I headed over to the Mazda stand, where I found myself face-to-face with the MX-5. While people seemed to be divided on its design, I thought it was an attractive car, and I appreciated the fact that Mazda had opted for a smaller car as their flagship model. However, some critics did find the grille to be too large, which might detract from the overall aesthetic.

I also made sure to check out the Yaris WRC, which generated a lot of buzz among fans of rally racing. The prospect of Toyota competing in the World Rally Championship was exciting, and I couldn't help but wonder what it would take for them to challenge VW's dominance in this area.

One of the biggest surprises at the show came in the form of the new Yamaha sports car, dubbed the "Carbon Ice Cream" concept. This innovative vehicle featured a tubular chassis with carbon-fiber panels that attached or bonded to it, making it incredibly light while also being cost-efficient. The design was clean and sleek, with a unique trumpet-shaped rear end (which seemed to be inspired by Yamaha's musical instrument-making heritage) and pedals behind the steering wheel - although we couldn't get any details on whether this would translate to production.

Later in the day, I caught a glimpse of the Ford F-Type Coupe, which had been modified with a rear wing. The result was a sleek, dark car that seemed to embody the perfect blend of style and performance. Honda also showcased their Tuned for Concept, although it was not clear how much of this design would make its way into production.

As I explored the show, I couldn't help but notice some rather...unconventional elements on display. One notable example was an F-150 pickup truck from Ford, which featured a rather unusual "wings" system in place of traditional fins - although it's unclear whether this was intended to be a serious design element or simply a publicity stunt.

Another company that caught my eye was Code 9, a relatively new firm with a passion for designing innovative vehicles. They showcased several prototypes, including a hardtop model that seemed a bit awkwardly proportioned, as well as a Gulf-colored sports car that turned out to be an absolute showstopper - with impressive specs and an attractive design. The company also promised a Hill Climb version of the car, which would have been an exciting prospect.

Finally, I stumbled upon a rather unusual display on the side of the road - featuring everything from tractors to rocket launchers (yes, you read that right!), it was clear that this event was not just about cars. As I made my way through the crowded hallways and corridors, I also caught glimpses of some rather entertaining promotional videos and even a few exotic Japanese models sporting impressive hairstyles.

Overall, the Tokyo Motor Show 2015 was an exciting event that showcased the latest innovations in car design, technology, and manufacturing. While some aspects of the show were a bit hit-or-miss (we did not receive the expected haul of tuner cars), it was clear that many manufacturers were eager to push the boundaries of what is possible in the automotive world. Whether or not this results in production cars remains to be seen - but one thing's for sure: the future of motoring looks very bright indeed.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhello and welcome to well an inside Evo from abroad Japan notice you can see the delightful Tokyo skyline behind me and the reason is it's the Tokyo Motor Show and I've been having a poke around at everything that is being unveiled today starting with well probably the star of the show which is the Mazda rx-8 is obviously sort of precursor to what would be I suppose in rx9 potentially and the big news is that rotary is back we're not quite sure in what form but it's yeah they say they've managed to overcome some of the problems with it namely I suppose principally efficiency and sort of emissions so that's that's really quite exciting and it just looks absolutely stunning I think there's something of the AMG GT about it perhaps but it wasn't reading really low because it is still a concept carbon wheels car brakes and just a fabulous looking car so that's really quite exciting from Mazda elsewhere would have got well Nissan was on stand just next door and we saw it in it I think it's called fire Knight this new color for their concept car which has been designed for Gran Turismo vision it's called the 2020 to see what they've done their vision 2020 terribly clever it's a bit like this sort of the Bugatti there's nothing like the sort of the details I suppose in terms of sort of arrow figures and lots of thing but it's just really nicely sort of does detailing which you might see on future GTRs and I love the exit exult of the exhaust which is just behind the front wheel sort of tucked into the side skirts and of course you've still got the four rings for the GTR and GTR for ring lights at the rear which is also very cool indeed talking of rear lights we've got the m4 BMW m4 GTS on show here which is very nice and it's got OLED organic LED lights at the rear and I do like the front splitter in particular does look very cool on that car rear wing bit demure like the last m3 GTS that was in orange you might remember but titanium exhaust and it's just it's a very funky looking thing that car bonnet under the studio or show lights looked absolutely amazing and just really nicely sort of sculptural I suppose that was a very cool thing from BMW as I said in the metal as it were elsewhere Porsche had a couple of things unveiled both four-wheel-drive but slightly different there was in the car GTS and that's now putting out 355 brake horsepower and 369 pounds for the torque from its three litre turbocharged v6 now you might have said if you know your mark on range you'll know that's it's actually between the Macan s and the con turbo so it's not the most powerful icon in the range but it's 15 millimeters lower at PS then gets sports suspension is standard some rather nice RS Spyder 20-inch wheels and black as well so it's a very cool looking thing and it promises to be the most sporty of them can to drive possibly the most sporty SUV that Porsche has yet done like we're talking about sporty SUVs and Porsche anyway elsewhere on the stand there was also the unveiling of the new turbocharged Carrera 4 if some 4s guys with the sports exhaust on the back which people seem to be really divided about those central exhausts which I think that really cool of course at the back as well we've got the light strip along the rear which is distinctive and shows that it's the shows it's four-wheel-drive version out as do the the wider 44 millimeter wider rear hips which n ya had a bit of bit more purpose to an already purposeful looking car path for that 414 brake horsepower 369 pounds for to talk and if you add Sport Chrono in a PDK into that then it'll be naught to 60 miles an hour in the 4s version in just 3.8 seconds which is pretty impressive makan by the way does not 60 in 5.2 seconds so yes so that's what the was from Porsche elsewhere well we had subra showing some things which was was interesting the new empresa which is obviously sort of impress so no longer can we cause them the hot ones so I'll get on that in a minute but it was a nice looking thing sort of more hatchback so going back to what we sort of knew they seemed they're sticking with hatchback it seems to be a a body style which suits them or see people like and it's it's not a bad looking thing I have to say there was also the s 2007 yellow edition Nurburgring challenge pack car which only producing a hundred of had a rear wing and it's obviously to celebrate that they don't they're motorsport these days they do a bit of rallying in America but that's Subaru America so the factory seem to be getting behind Nurburgring entries and this is to celebrate their successes at the Nurburgring and yeah it was up to the 328 PS and just yeah nice and yellow really so yeah but you brought back a bit of us through the old memories of special editions that it occasion see is cool grey imports across in the UK so that was rather nice to see elsewhere what else did we have there was all sorts of random stuff it's an amazing place we couldn't odd show so times would be very quiet in the halls and then you'd see sort of I sat on a chair and was resented his Daihatsu I think which then it must be something mobility wise then sort of put me into the car you can probably see pictures of that now that was that was quite fun but some motorbikes obviously things like the Akebono brakes you'll see on the McLaren p1 they had a stand their own ins has some beautiful dampers some Nismo ones that were there but also for surfer motorbikes and rally cars and all sorts of things so that was it's nice to see that that span was just some very cool stuff Toyota auto body and now get on to the main Toyota stand in a second but auto body and it's just this bizarre I'm not quite sure what it was I had a sort of fabric roof that would fold back but the most aggressive sort of front that looked a bit like a sort of one of those sort of old Citroen vans H vans sort of the word I'm looking for but yeah it was sort of combination between a limo and a minibus and who knows what and something else that was a sort of had horror graphic sort of things on the front windscreen and just a single chair and anyway they're quite cool there was also a see there was an amazing truck with all sorts of different arms for picking up logs and drilling holes and for the logging industry that must have been extremely exciting it was pretty exciting for me too I know as well which is another brand of Toyota they had their duck art truck there which just I mean everyone loves the DAC our trophy they look monstrous and amazing and it's impossible what they seem to do over a sound gene and so I had a one drop there and had to sit in that an amazingly basic inside it looked several years old and very secondhand but then it obviously had competed and I think it had been built for somebody slightly smaller than me because I struggled to bend my legs around the steering wheel but it was that was nice to be able to get in sitting that over on the main Toyota stand well it was the S fr which we still don't know many details about it some very yellow very high lighter yellow and it looks it doesn't look very cool so it's it's a nice thing that potentially will go up against an mx-5 people are saying the grille for my taste was just a bit too big to Deeping perhaps but so anyway nice to see it nice to see that they're a small car there there's also the Yaris WRC which we're very excited about and hope they're going to come along and and challenge VW in the WRC it was also there's a very bizarre thing with a sort of exoskeleton and rocker on four dampers up here and it was it was fun nice to see toys are having a bit of fun so there we go one of the biggest sort of eyespace excitements of the show was the new Yamaha sports car now they've worked with Gordon law in the past with his ice dream concept and this was the the carbon icecream concept so it's a sort of it's a tubular chassis with then carbon moulded panels that attach to it or a bonded to it and it's apparently extremely light but also very cost efficient so it's actually just me saying it's gonna bring carbon fibre masses and anyway it's a very cute little looking little sports car the interior I think has got a bit of garni zonder about it almost there was a trumpet in the back because of C Yamaha makes musical instruments that was a bit random though but it's it's a very good-looking thing nice Hayek's it exhaust know they were word on sort of watts of engine it would have in it or anything like that but there seemed to be pedals behind the steering wheel whistles James that we hope for a manual we serve I think if gahl tomorrow's gonna produce a sports car we'd have a manual gearbox but you never know this is just a concept some brake switch looked so they were from a motorbike because the car anyways about 737 or 50 kilos wet so that's pretty exciting how to say there was an f-type coupe a with a rear wing on it which I haven't seen before which is quite interesting nice dark sort of almost perfectly color as well that was nice Honda had their tuned for concept there which we saw at Frankfurt and you can click and see in video somewhere else on the website about that but they actually they changed it to right-hand drive for this show which I'm not sure many people noticed I also saw somebody else tweeting saying that the blue liquid in the brake lines was actually mouthwash which is quite quite fun that so shows it really is sadly a concept but less there we go finally there was a company called or car called code nine by a designer whose name I shall not attempt to pronounce person will be up on the screen about now I should think and there were various concepts of it there was a hardtop one with his sort of thin at the back now looked as though a bit aversive no more prototype refugee with that but then there was a gulf coloured sports car and it was it was very cool 350 psi was that probably about 344 brake horsepower again 750 kilos weight as you know it's slightly more though it's just though it was around 800 kilos kerb waves manual gearbox and by looking at had a sort of analyse a sea and then sort of various carbon fiber bits inside but it was yeah it was a nice-looking thing it's just had the right sort of proportions and look so it could be fun that was also a sort of sprint or Hill Climb version a pub sport version if you like with surf we also out on limbs rather than enclosed and that would looked really quite fun as well so there was also tractor on stand and some sort of rotavator and glasses and covering that sort of thing but but fun that was the sort of wacky thing I was hoping to find him sadly not really many tuners or hardly any changes at all here I was expecting a big haul of those but but no such luck so you have to put up with some other sort of wacky things an enormous afro I saw and some very cool just wacky particular Japanese videos promoting various things on one of the long corridors between the two halls so there we go that's everything from Tokyo 2015 a very brief look I'm afraid but
