DIY Round Beach Blanket _ No Sew Beach Towel (for cheap!) - HGTV Handmade

Hey Guys Welcome Back to HGTV Handmade with Me, Mary Anne

We are thrilled to be back at HGTV headquarters, this time in our new location, Studio B. We want to share some exciting changes that we have coming up over the summer. Get ready for new faces, new projects, and maybe even a few surprises that will make your whole life better. As I'm sure you know, I am unapologetically a summer person, and I'm excited to dive into this project with you all.

The Summer Has Arrived

It's finally summer, and if you've been following our little channel, you know I am beyond thrilled about it. Who doesn't love the pool, the beach, and the warm weather? When I started seeing these extra large round Beach blankets popping up on retailers, I couldn't help but get excited. But let me tell you, I did not want to pay over $100 for one. Today, I'm going to show you how to turn this $15 tropical shower curtain into the oversized beach blanket of your dreams.

Turning a Shower Curtain into a Beach Blanket

To start, we'll need to fold our shower curtain into quarters. Shower curtains can be quite slippery material, so we'll use some clothes pins to keep our seams nice and straight. Next, grab an iron, and we'll iron these outer folded seams. This will ensure everything is nice and straight when we start cutting our circle. With the average shower curtain, you can make a 66-inch circle, which means our radius is 33 inches.

Measuring and Drawing the Circle

From our center point where all our folds meet, we'll measure 33 inches and draw in an arc across our folded shower curtain. Once we plot out our first row of dots, it's time to go back and fill them in. Now that we have a rough outline, grab a pair of scissors and cut along the dotted line.

The Moment of Truth

It's finally time to see if all our hard work paid off! Let's take a closer look at our giant round beach blanket... And guess what? It looks amazing! The math may not be my strongest subject, but with the help of my friend Meg, we managed to create a perfect, huge circle. Now all we need to do is add some pom-pom trim and this bad boy is finished!

Pom-Pom Trim

The final touch that will make our beach blanket look high-end and professional is pom-pom trim. You can find these at fabric and craft stores, but be sure to use those coupons! They're available for about 50% off, and it's a game-changer. We'll use quick-dry fabric glue to attach the pom-poms, working in about 1-foot sections.

Gluing Up Our Beach Blanket

Now that we have our pom-pom trim, let's get gluing! We'll work around the entire edge of the blanket, using pens if needed, to make sure everything stays in place. Once you have the glue all complete, let it dry for an hour or two – and wait at least 24 hours before washing.

The Finished Product

And there we have it – our giant round beach blanket is finally complete! We love how it turned out, and I know you will too. It's lightweight material that will dry really easily, and sand won't stick to it. What do you guys think about our giant round beach blanket? Are you feeling it or are you the kind of person who hides inside until the first sign of fall?
