**Scanning and Sharing Documents with Notes App**
The Notes app has recently received an update that allows users to scan documents using their iOS device's camera. This feature is particularly useful for scanning receipts, invoices, and other paper documents. When you're finished scanning, you can tap on one of your scans to open it full screen. From there, you can swipe through each page of the document.
If you're not satisfied with one of the pages, you can tap "retake" allowing you to rescan that document instantly. The new scan will replace the old one and maintain the original order. If you make a mistake while scanning, you can instantly delete it from the app. You can also adjust the crop of the original scan, which is especially useful for automatic scans.
In addition to these features, the Notes app also allows you to adjust the filter of your scanned document. This feature is particularly useful for converting black and white scans back to color. You can also instantly rotate your scan once finished tapping "done" and then "save". Your scanned documents will be imported into your note.
Once imported, you can swipe horizontally to view all of the included scans. Long pressing on your scan document will give you a few options, including "share", which will give you options for sharing all of the scans within that box. Another option is "small images", which will make the whole thing smaller as well as showing the number of included scans and only showing a thumbnail for the first page.
Tapping on the thumbnail either from small or large image view will open it up in full screen. You can swipe through each scan or even change the order of the scans. You'll get the same options as before with the plus icon at the bottom being the "replace" button. There's also a "share" button at the upper right-hand corner of the screen, but another way to share is to tap and hold the thumbnail and tap "share". Interestingly, this route allows you to save the image to your camera roll unlike the actual "share" button.
**Adding Signatures with Markup**
When in markup mode, tap the plus icon near the bottom right-hand corner of the screen and tap "signature". Here, you can use Apple Pencil to write out a signature and hit "done". You can then reposition and resize your signature. This feature allows for more flexibility when it comes to adding signatures to scanned documents.
**Sharing Options**
When it comes to sharing options, the Notes app offers a variety of ways to share your scans. Airdrop is featured at the top, below you have options like email and copying to third-party apps such as Dropbox and Slack. Tapping on "more" allows you to enable other third-party options like Amazon Drive.
Interestingly, choosing the default copy to Dropbox option actually opened the Dropbox app allowing us to save the file but afterwards leaving us in the Dropbox app. This functionality could change when iOS 11 ships. If you choose the manually enabled Dropbox option, a sharing window pops up while staying within the Notes app. There's also an added option of instantly emailing the file.
Bugs remain in the pre-released software for now, but it does however work currently with a manually enabled Slack share option. With this option, you don't have to leave the Notes app at all. Getting back to some sharing options, there is also "markup as PDF" which allows you to look through and markup every page instead of individually as well as sharing every page at the same time.
Tapping "done" gives the option of deleting the PDF or saving the file to either iCloud drive or on my iPad third-party Drive app support may come with the official iOS 11 release. There's also a print selection where you'll instantly see options for a Wi-Fi connected AirPrint printer and you can change the number of copies. Tapping the range option allows you to fine-tune the range of scans or Pages.
You also get the option of printing all pages if one or more of your scans is disabled. Another option is to save to files where you can save to iCloud or on my iPad tapping on "more" allows you to enable third-party apps including save to Dropbox. Finally, Apple will also allow you to share the entire note that contains your scans just tap the "add people" option where you can invite people to view and make changes to your note.
You can share it via a copied link email Slack or any other app that supports it in share sheets as of the current beta of iOS 11. The Slack and Twitter options provide a basic UI for inviting by email or phone number. Let us know in the comments section below if there is some scanning or sharing options that you'd like to see in the official release of iOS 11.
