Hyundai: Playing with Style in a Really Fun Way
As of late, Hyundai has been playing with style in a really fun way. The brand offers some fairly standard models like the Santa Fe and Palisade, but also more intriguing options with daring looks such as the Ionic 5 and 6. Furthermore, Hyundai even has its own take on the pickup truck with the Santa Cruz, which is one of the mainstays in the lineup.
Just got a whole lot more sharp though, it's a look that's downright striking, this is the redesigned 2024 Hyundai Sonata. Hyundai has upped the aggression of the Sonata without going over the top. This is a wonderful example of a design team that is able to push it while still maintaining some restraint because after all, this is a mid-size sedan and not the next Lamborghini Supercar.
With the 2024 Sonata, Hyundai delivers a design refresh that goes a lot further than fresh faces. The part that catches your eye right away is easily the front lighting element, which Hyundai calls a seamless Horizon lamp. Sometimes the design folks get far too into their own head with overly flowery descriptions of things, but it's a cool lighting element so it can have a cool name attached to it. However, the faces have been changed and so is the taillight design Outback. It mimics the full width light found on the nose and it's a cohesive design language element that works really well.
You should be able to tell that this is a Sonata whether it's coming or going initially. The Sonata will launch as a standard version, and there's also a slightly more sporting n-line variant with some slight design differences between the two mostly found on the lower front trim as well as the design of The Wheels on the end line. Those are 19-inch wheels and this version also gets a pair of twin tip exhaust outlets to set it apart that much more.
Inside the refreshed Sonata, Hyundai has made the cabin a bit more driver-centric. You have a panoramic curved display up front which combines a 12.3 inch digital driver display with a 12.3 inch infotainment screen. This employs a shift by wire gear selector behind the steering wheel which allows more space in the central console area. Meanwhile, the armrest extends the cover up to the driver's Palm to make it a more comfortable spot to rest your arm.
These are small touches that add up to an overall more enjoyable experience on a daily basis. As for the powertrains on offer, that shouldn't change too wildly for the 2023 example. Hyundai serves up a 191 horsepower 2.5 liter four-cylinder, a 180 horsepower turbocharged 1.6 liter four-cylinder, and then gives the inline version a 290 horsepower 2.5 liter turbo 4. All of those are front-wheel drive with the SC, SEL, SEL plus, and limited all using an 8-speed automatic. There's also the Sonata Hybrid which pairs a 2-liter four-cylinder engine with a 51 horsepower electric motor for a combined output rating of 192 horsepower.
However, there may be a bit more punch in some of the engines, but don't expect anything game changing in that regard. What is game changing for the Sonata, however, is the new style this thing looks awesome, thank you foreign.
