Awesome 27-inch 1440P IPS gaming monitor, with something different: Benq EX2780Q 144 Hz

I've been playing around with this monitor for two weeks now and I have to say that I really like it. The monitor that I was using before, a 1080p 27-inch 144Hz monitor, was pretty good but the lower pixel density really kind of hurts the image quality.

One thing that I really liked about this monitor is the low blue light implementation because it's actually variable in this monitor so you go from like a very light low blue light mode all the way to a really heavy low blue light mode for if you're you know reading just before you go to bed or whatever. And I found it using like a moderate low blue light mode while gaming at night actually had quite a big reduction of eyestrain so I really liked the implementation but yeah with all of that out the way let's get to the like main distinguishing feature in my opinion and one of the reasons why I think it costs about $600 and doesn't include a better stand is because you know the money goes towards the better sound bar that you have included which it really is surprisingly good for built-in monitor audio.

According to my brother a bunch of people actually use the built-in audio on monitors and they're usually rubbish. But I have an Acer monitor that I've been using is my like a gaming monitor and it's built-in speakers are completely unusable and I always thought that was the case with monitors. So because it's got a 2.1 built-in sound system it means that it's got two front-facing stereo speakers and that actually gives you decent stereo separation so if you're playing more casual games you can actually hear where people are in relation to you and stuff like that which is pretty great for monitor built-in speakers.

The base speaker the sound is actually pretty full it goes fairly loud it doesn't go super loud but at max volume it doesn't distort so that's really nice. I mean with that Acer monitor it distorts at like 50 percent volume now it obviously isn't a replacement for like a decent set of speakers but if you don't have much space I think this monitor is a really good solution because I think the sound is going to be very comparable to like more entry-level desktop speakers and then you don't have to have them standing around on your desk.

I mentioned earlier in the video that the monitor does have free sync built-in and that free sync does seem to be compatible with G-sync it's not officially compatible but I tried it with my r-tx 2060 and I turned it on and didn't get any weird visual artifacts. The thing is though it didn't really seem to make any difference they didn't seem to be less tearing with G-sync on although I will say that there was pretty much no tearing at all with the G-sync off and if you're gonna be running it at a higher refresh rate which you should be because that's kind of the point of the monitor tearing isn't much of an issue.

Anyway now in conclusion after two weeks of using it what do I think of this monitor. Honestly really like it. The monitor that I was using before was a 1080p 27-inch hundred and forty-four hear sermon etre which was pretty good but the lower pixel density really kind of hurts the image quality I'm gonna make a dedicated video on that later because I think it's a fairly interesting topic comparing 1440p to 1080p on 27-inch but yeah that alone makes it a really big upgrade. It is a very nicely featured monitor in my opinion and it's it the image quality is great the sound is very good. I would say that the stand is rubbish in my opinion I mean it's usable but it's not something that you'd want included on a $600 monitor so I would include a vase or arm in the price if you want to buy one of these. But as far as a high refresh rate 1440p gaming monitor goes I think I it's it's a really good option in my opinion.

Let me know in the comments section below what you think of this monitor if you would buy one they go on sale every now and then there was actually a Black Friday sale on them which sold out almost immediately in Canada but yeah thank you very much for watching

WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: entoday we're gonna look at a BenQ monitor that has all of the standard specifications for a really amazing gaming display it's 27-inch it's 1440p it's 144 Hertz refresh rate it's got an IPS panel it's got free sync and it's got HDR but there's one feature that kind of makes it stand out from the competition now the first thing that you're probably thinking while looking at the b-roll of this monitor is why does it seem to be modeled on a thanasis jaw that's because it's got some surprisingly good built-in speakers and that's something that most gaming monitors don't really seem to include they usually have like terrible speakers that are just an afterthought and according to my brother some people actually do use their monitor audio before we get any further into this video I just feel like I have to point out BenQ did actually send me this monitor however they didn't pay for this video so it's still my unbiased opinion on the monitor the reason that I feel I have to say this in this video is because this is gonna be a very positive video I really like this monitor it's very very good in fact in my opinion there are only two kind of issues with it and one of them is very easily addressable and another thing that I want to point out is that I don't have any equipment to test like color accuracy and response times and things like that of a monitor so I can't actually verify Ben Q's claims however there are a couple other reviews that I'll have linked in the description below where they go into that kind of detail and with that let's just do a quick physical breakdown of the monitor now in the box you get a decent selection of cables you get an HDMI cable you get a USBC cable which you can use to connect the laptop with which is pretty cool and it also comes with a power cable now the monitor also comes with a little remote control included but I didn't ever feel like I needed to use it because the actual on-screen controls are really good so it has like a power button and then the second nipple control thing and two buttons and it's just really easy to navigate to the actual like OSD and change between sources and stuff like that so yeah I didn't feel like I needed to use the control ever it also has like a volume wheel built into the monitor for the volume of the actual speakers which is in my opinion a really good inclusion yeah and with that I actually think it's quite a good looking monitor although I'm not a huge fan of this little what looks like an IR sensor in the middle of the sound bar it's actually pretty huge but other than that I think it's a pretty good-looking monitor with fairly thin bezels which looks good if you have like other monitors stacked around it and with that the actual build quality of the monitors surprisingly good it's it's mostly plastic but it's very solid and sturdy feeling it's actually quite a heavy monitor which is something you should take into account if you want to mount it on an on a vase our arm but yeah it's it's very well built the biggest disappointment about this monitor in my opinion is the included stand that it comes with especially at the price point of this monitor it only offers tilt and you can't like raise it or lower it and unless you actually put the monitor on something it's not gonna be high enough for like a proper ergonomic monitor placement so it means that you're probably gonna have to buy a vase a monitor arm when you buy this monitor as well which is an additional expense as far as the actual build of the included stand goes though it's pretty well put together it's metal and it's the sturdier of this style of monitor stand that I've ever kind of engaged with it's also got pretty nice cable management in the back so you kind of like slide this little plastic cover off and then you can like lead the cables through and it's it's quite a clean solution now moving around to the back of the monitor at the top of this this kind of like subwoofer port which really is surprising how much actual weight it adds to the sound but I'll talk about the sound quality a bit later when it comes to inputs it's got a pretty good selection you've got two HDMI in a display port and a USB see one thing about the USB see though is that it doesn't seem to charge laptops that you have plugged in but you can use it to actually connect a laptop to the monitor so that's that's pretty nice now let's move on to the image quality which is obviously one of the most important considerations with a monitor especially one that's fairly expensive now the specs are fairly high-end it's got a 27-inch panel that has a 2560 by 1440 P resolution that refreshes at 144 Hertz and it's got a 5 millisecond response time which makes it great for gaming I couldn't feel any perceptible input lag while playing FPS games and yeah it's honestly perfect for stuff like csgo apex and battlefield 5 and the image quality really is beautiful because of the IPS panel that covers 95% of the DC IP colorspace it does look amazing you could actually like edit videos on it and stuff like that especially for YouTube and like other internet consumption and then for those of you that are interested the panel does also support HDR now it's called HDR I which is like Ben Q's HDR branding but basically it's vassar display HDR 400 which is the lowest HDR certification that exists although just because it's got a basic HDR certification doesn't mean that it's a bad HDR implementation Ben Q is actually really excited about the technology that they use to improve HDR so that little sensor in the front of the monitor actually monitors the ambient light in the room and then like dynamically adjusts the brightness to to have like the most pleasing HDR scene and it means that according to them you've got a lot of clarity in the image and stuff like that I'm not a huge fan of HDR but I have to say from my limited HDR testing on this monitor it does look really good for HDR on a gaming monitor so that feature is there if you if you're into that kind of thing now as far as picture profiles go there's a fairly big selection although I usually just left it on standard because I feel standard looked really good and there wasn't any ghosting or like perceptible input lag in my opinion there are also three gamer modes though which I didn't use because I couldn't feel a difference in like input lag and responsiveness but they looked a lot worse to me another picture profile that I really liked on this monitor though was the low blue light implementation because it's actually variable in this monitor so you go from like a very light low blue light mode all the way to a really heavy low blue light mode for if you're you know reading just before you go to bed or whatever and I found it using like a moderate low blue light mode while gaming at night actually had quite a big reduction of eyestrain so I
