The RTX 4080: A Card That's Been Dragged Through the Mud

The NVIDIA RTX 4080 has been met with significant criticism and controversy, largely due to its pricing. The card is considered one of the most expensive 80 series cards available, which has led to a backlash from gamers and enthusiasts alike. Many people feel that the price is simply too high, especially when compared to AMD's offerings. In fact, some have taken to selling their RTX 4080s at a significant loss, indicating that Nvidia's strategy may not be working as planned.

This decision to upcharge on an 80 series card has bitten Nvidia hard, and it's starting to show in the market. Scalpers are struggling to sell their RTX 4080s, even at near MSRP prices. This is a significant problem for Nvidia, as they're essentially stuck with a large inventory of unsold cards. The situation is so dire that rumors have started circulating about Nvidia potentially dropping the price on the RTX 4080.

The RTX 4080's high price has also led to speculation about the card's performance and value proposition. Some people believe that the card's performance is not significantly better than AMD's offerings, which are priced lower. This perception is likely due to the fact that Nvidia's cards often come with features like ray tracing and AI-enhanced graphics, which may not be as important to gamers who prioritize raw performance.

However, it's worth noting that the RTX 4080 is still a powerful card, capable of delivering excellent performance in most modern games. The question remains whether its price is justified by its value proposition. One thing is certain, however: the RTX 4080's high price has made it a target for criticism and ridicule.

The Situation with AMD

On the other hand, AMD has been quietly enjoying success with their Radeon RX 7900 series cards. The 7900 XTX and 7900 XT have been priced significantly lower than Nvidia's RTX 4080, which has allowed them to attract more customers and gain market share. In fact, some analysts believe that the 7900 XTX is a direct competitor to the RTX 4080, and that AMD may be winning the battle for gamers' wallets.

The Pricing Conundrum

One of the key factors contributing to the controversy surrounding the RTX 4080's price is the question of whether it's justified by its performance. On paper, the card should be able to deliver excellent performance in most modern games. However, some people are skeptical about its value proposition, especially when compared to AMD's offerings.

It's worth noting that Nvidia has a history of releasing cards with high price points. However, this time around, it seems like they may have gotten caught off guard by the market reaction. The RTX 4080 is priced at $1,099 for the standard model and $1,299 for the Ti variant. In contrast, AMD's 7900 XTX is priced at $999, making it a significantly more affordable option.

The Future of Nvidia's Pricing Strategy

If rumors about Nvidia potentially dropping the price on the RTX 4080 are true, it would be a significant shift in their pricing strategy. It would also likely have an impact on the pricing of other cards in Nvidia's lineup, including the 12 GB variant that was recently cancelled.

In terms of implications for gamers and enthusiasts, a lower price point for the RTX 4080 would likely make it more appealing to buyers. However, it's worth noting that the situation is complex, and there are many factors at play. For example, Nvidia may still be trying to maintain some level of profit margin on the card.

Ultimately, the future of Nvidia's pricing strategy remains uncertain. One thing is certain, however: the controversy surrounding the RTX 4080 has highlighted the need for more competitive pricing in the graphics card market.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enmy Radeon rx7000 series gpus from AMD are finally here we're going to unbox them today I'm super excited but I don't think my RTX 40 series cards are very happy about it I mean earlier today I was just oh my God our tx4080 what are you doing with the knife why do you have a knife what are you doing with the AMD cards 4080 look I know Global embarrassment is hard but that doesn't give you the right to kill someone just because you were Dead on Arrival doesn't mean they have to die too now Put The Knife Down it's not worth it just like you're not worth the money I please you can still turn back just please put the Knife Down foreign God okay you're fine everything's fine oh 48 he gave me a scare there now that we're all settled down we can finally just links in the description below and start browsing all of the limited time deals on cdkeyoffer.com alright sorry for that traumatic Interruption earlier I have since confiscated both of the weapons and put both of the RTX 40 series gpus in timeout and uh hopefully they learn their lessons all right so what we got here is uh two of the graphics cards that have been announced from AMD package very very well and secure we have the which one's this RX 7900 XT as well as the 7900 XT x one letter of a difference we'll see in the benchmarks uh The Benchmark video which is soon to come exactly what kind of difference that one letter makes obviously I can't really tell you guys much in this video that you don't already know because uh there's just an unboxing embargo but I will do my best to show you guys the cards up close and personal let's start with the 7900 XT okay so just a refresher since we're since we're doing this uh rdna3 new architecture Bam Bam Bam uh Power efficiency super efficient and it's got uh better Ray tracing performance allegedly that'll be tested as well oh this is a nice card it's got those second gen RT accelerators on board of that new architecture so here's the card what a beauty this says I did see this up close when I was at uh the Press event earlier this year but man having it actually in my hands and stuff it's pretty pretty solid card and I love the fact that it's normal size it's not gargantuan like the rtx40 series that we've seen so far at least the founders Edition and and the aftermarket cards and you know what oh my gosh look at that there's there's no adapter there's no crappy gonna melt your whole house down adapter in here it just has normal eight pin pcie plugs I never thought it'd be so stoked to see these connectors on a graphics card again we have a triple fan design here I also love the fact that they actually painted the aluminum fin stack I think it just makes it uh super sleek and stealthy we also have a plastic shroud I'll admit the RTX 40 series Founders edition cards feel just slightly more premium than this card not to say that this card's bad by any stretch like the quality here is is Top Notch this is 100 quality I'd just say the the Fe carts from Nvidia are probably like 110 I think it's maybe because um the the heatsink is just so big and bulky but it's just it's sturdy it's strong not to say that this isn't but I mean like you could Bend these fins if you really wanted to whereas the fins on the 40 series Fe cards are just super solid I feel like you could chop vegetables with those things you know like prep your dinner with it and stuff but this is still again A striking card I love the subtle red accents that they've put on the heatsink and the back plate it's just enough red to let you know it's an AMD card but without uh you know clashing too much with any other theme that you're trying to go with in your build PCA Gen 4 is a PCI Gen 4 graphics card just like the 40 series and we also have actually improved display outs so we actually have HDMI 2.1 a which isn't too different but then we also have DisplayPort 2.0 which is going to let us do 4K at 480 Hertz or 8K at 165 Hertz versus DisplayPort 1.4 a that's on the rtx40 series that only does 4K 120 hertz or 8K at 60 hertz obviously 8K is still a very niche market for gamers but 4K is becoming increasingly popular and it's just really impressive that this card can allow you to hit literally four times the refresh rate on your display than an RTX 4090 simply because of that new display port other fun facts about the 7900 XT is that we have 84 compute units on board along with 20 gigabytes of gddr6 memory on a 320 bit bus and that's at 20 gigabits per second giving us a total of roughly 2 900 gigabytes a second of bandwidth only takes a 750 watt power supply to run this thing also very nice definitely a tip of the hat to the power efficiency of that rdna 3.0 architecture at work and then Max boost clock up to 2400 megahertz so all together a very sleek and stylish card but why don't we go ahead and smoothie on over smoothie that's a word that I just invented uh 7900 x t x and I'm guessing this is about the same size I mean it's the same exact size box as a 7800 XT how does how come this one's so much more difficult to open did I just get oh it's because there's tape on it it's because I'm dumb that's why all right so yeah this is I think it's the same oh it's a little chunkier it's just a little chunkier it's about a centimeter to a centimeter and a half taller height wise and maybe one to two centimeters longer not too different it's just ever so slightly larger uh let's see we still have two dual eight pin PCI power connectors we're keeping the same three fans which look the same size as well I believe yes same exact size fans triple design and then we have a little bit of plastic accents around this middle fan which we don't have on the 7900 XT which I actually kind of prefer without the plastic because this gets fingerprints on it and you know I don't know it looks glossy I don't like gloss I don't like gloss on anything but this is probably not gonna be visible in the vast majority of cases anyway and then uh same a similar very similar back plates with the red accents yeah physically these are really straightforward cards you know there's nothing particularly unique about them which isn't a bad thing they're just normal graphics cards unlike the RTX 40 series Fe cards which you know look like the the Brick of Carbonite that Han Solo was frozen into this is just a very straightforward design which I appreciate but of course we also have specs to Rattle off on the 7900 XTX including 96 compute units so we'll do a quick a b comparison here um just to to let you guys see the differences between the two cards so 7900 XT 7900 XTX right so we've got 84 cus compute units and 96. 20 Gigabytes of vram 24 gigabytes of vram they're both operating at the same speed of 20 gigabits per second although like I said this is a got a total bandwidth of around 2 900 gigabytes a second but this is running at around 3 500 gigabytes a second so 293 500. between these two cards the last main difference on paper that I feel like is relevant information to most of you is power supply requirements so again 750 watts and now we have 800 watts on the 7900 XTX 800 watts versus you know 850 Watts on something like an RTX 4080 or 40 90 um which is pretty sweet and I feel like at 800 watts you could probably still get away with a 750 watt unit if it's a good unit and you're not doing any kind of crazy overclocking um you don't have a super power hungry CPU like a you know crazy high-end red Ripper chip or something like that then 750 watts is probably okay I'll have to do proper testing to actually verify that but um and the reason I bring that up is because I feel like a lot of Gamers a lot of us who have built PCS in the last few years like 750 watts was sort of like the the gold standard it was kind of like the sweet spot if you will but again I'll have to verify that at a later date but I guess that's sort of you know the gist of these cards if we're talking um you know just the physicality of them uh and specs and things like that but the climate of the GPU market right now is very interesting right because we've got we've gotten video who's already come out with two gpus one is has been fairly well received just because it's a ridiculous powerhouse it's insanely fast the 4090 but it's also super expensive and then we have the 4080 which has been just just completely dragged through the mud uh rightfully so just because it's so stupid expensive for an 80 series card they just upped the price on it way more than they really should have and I think it's biting them in the ass right now because if you guys have seen the Articles like people are they're not selling they're not really selling like Nvidia probably thought they would I've seen articles of like scalpers who are stuck with a bunch of 4080s because they can't sell them even at near MSRP people are just not buying the damn thing I think also just you know out of protest almost which is awesome and so there have been rumors actually the RTX 4080 Nvidia is going to drop the price on that card uh relatively soon that's probably just to take some of the wind out of AMD sales but also probably because Nvidia might be bricks I mean you saw the the behavior of my RTX 40 series cards at the beginning of this video they clearly see these cards as a threat not necessarily because they're faster than them but because they're a much better value that is going to be way more appealing to the vast majority of Gamers out there it's not really at the end of the day about uh who has the faster car that's more of just a dick measuring contest for the CEOs um and Jensen's winning that fine but you know none of our wallet badge is are wide enough to fit to fit that so uh but we're still getting bite anyway what really matters to these companies is who's selling units whose product is being purchased more and right now it's looking like amd's got this in the bag as long as the performance delivers um whatever that looks like for gamers whatever quota they have in their in their minds if it meets that expectation AMD has this sealed because the pricing is just it's there you know I mean obviously these are still pricey cards a thousand dollars I should have mentioned that at the beginning of the video a thousand dollars 9.99 for the 7900 XTX and 8.99 for the 7900 XT pricey but still far below what Nvidia is currently selling their existing RTX 40 series cards for and I think it's pretty clear at this point that the RTX 4080 is directly competing with the 7900 XTX not the 7900 XT the 4090 is just in a league of its own assuming that the performance of the 7900 XTX is roughly comparable to the RTX 4080 Nvidia is going to have to drop the price on that 200 they're gonna have to like basically match what AMD is selling this card for they're both gonna have to be thousand dollar cards that is the only way I see Nvidia getting rid of their 4080 inventory otherwise everyone's just no one cares enough that people care about Ray tracing but they don't care enough to just throw stupid amounts of money at it when when uh a competing product is just as good if not better at rasterization which is the vast majority of uh you know what users are are needing right now these are just Rumors by the way this hasn't been confirmed that they're dropping the price this is just scuttlebutt or whatever as Paul likes to say um but assuming that they do drop the price on the 4080 I don't know if it's going to go straight to a thousand I could see it at 1100 or maybe no actually no I take that back they're they're going to want to like steal the show they might very well drop it to a thousand actually but that would be good you know I mean obviously that would be good gets the 4080 somewhat closer to what it should have been priced in the first place and it also will affect the the pricing of the rest of nvidia's unreleased 4 40 series stack no pricing has been released for the other 4080 the 12 gig 4080 that they did away with and is most likely going to become an RTX 4070 TI but I guarantee you if they do drop the price on the 4080 the 470 TI price is also going to be adjusted according to that that new MSRP so uh competition is good graphics cards new new technology is awesome let me know what you guys think about these cards are you team AMD at this point are you team Nvidia still are you waiting to see the benchmarks are you even interested in either of these generations of cards are you going to hold on to what you currently have and maybe wait for the next gen to come out a few years down the line let me know thank you guys so much for watching this video toss a like on it before you go get subscribed
