I Have a Confession to Make: My Experience with the Peloton Tread
As I sit here reflecting on my journey, I have to admit that running has never been my thing. I've always struggled to get started, and even when I do, I can only manage to run for about two minutes before needing to stop. So, when I decided to embark on a 5K training program with the Peloton Tread, I was both excited and intimidated.
The first step in my journey was setting up my Peloton Tread at home. It wasn't easy, as I had to figure out how to assemble it all by myself. But once it was set up, I was eager to start using it. The first class I took was a gentle introduction to running, and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. The instructor's encouragement and motivation helped me push through my initial discomfort and slowly build up my endurance.
As the days went by, I found myself looking forward to my daily runs more and more. The Peloton Tread's built-in motivator, which provided a virtual environment and music to keep me going, made every workout feel like a party. I also appreciated the convenience of being able to work out from the comfort of my own home, without having to worry about traffic or parking.
One of the most surprising things about using the Peloton Tread was how much it helped me build confidence in my running abilities. At first, I felt like I was struggling just to keep up with the pace of the classes, but as the weeks went by, I started to notice improvements in my endurance and speed. I even began to look forward to running outside, feeling more confident in my ability to handle longer distances.
Of course, there were also some challenges along the way. There were times when I felt frustrated with the screen wobbling or the occasional software lag, which affected the stream quality. And then there was the issue of bricking the machine by a bad software update – it was hard to imagine my trusty Peloton Tread becoming a dud.
Despite these minor setbacks, I found that the classes on the Peloton were consistently engaging and motivating. The instructors were fun to follow along with, and their small talk about current events or jokes about the weather added a lighthearted touch to each workout. I also appreciated the variety of classes offered, which allowed me to mix up my routine and try new things.
One of the most memorable moments for me was when I finished my first 5K run. It was a moment of pure elation, knowing that all my hard work had paid off. The sense of accomplishment I felt was overwhelming, and it gave me the confidence to keep pushing myself in my training.
In the end, my experience with the Peloton Tread has been nothing short of transformative. While it's not perfect – there were some issues along the way – it has helped me achieve something that I never thought possible: completing a 5K run. And for that, I am eternally grateful.
The Best Part of My Journey
For me, the best part of my journey with the Peloton Tread was the classes themselves. The instructors were always enthusiastic and supportive, and their guidance helped me push through even when I felt like giving up. But what really set the Peloton apart for me was the sense of community that came with it. Even though I was working out from home, I felt connected to other runners around the world who were also using the machine.
The classes on the Peloton also taught me a valuable lesson about perseverance and consistency. At first, I struggled to stay on track, losing motivation and falling behind my fitness goals. But as the weeks went by, I began to see progress and feel more confident in my abilities. It was a powerful reminder that small steps can add up over time.
In addition to the classes, I also appreciated the convenience of being able to access them digitally through a membership. For just $20 a month, I could enjoy all the benefits of the Peloton without having to pay for a physical machine or gym membership. It was a game-changer for me, and I felt like I had finally found an affordable way to stay active.
My Experience with the Peloton Tread: A Journey of Self-Discovery
Looking back on my journey, I realize that using the Peloton Tread was more than just about achieving a fitness goal – it was also about discovering new aspects of myself. As I pushed through challenges and setbacks, I began to develop a sense of resilience and determination that I never knew I had.
I also learned to appreciate the importance of self-care and self-compassion. When I felt frustrated or discouraged, I would remind myself that it's okay to make mistakes and that every step forward is a victory, no matter how small. It was a valuable lesson in the power of positive thinking and the importance of being kind to oneself.
Perhaps most importantly, my experience with the Peloton Tread taught me to be more confident in my abilities. I realized that I am capable of achieving things that I never thought possible, and that gave me the courage to take on new challenges and pursue my passions.
As I reflect on my journey, I am grateful for the lessons I learned and the experiences I had along the way. The Peloton Tread may not have been perfect, but it helped me achieve something truly special – a 5K run, and a newfound sense of confidence that will stay with me for years to come.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: en- Three, two.(house music)- I have a confession to make.Running has never really been my thing.I never got the so-called runner's highbecause when I run, Inormally make it, like, two minutes before I have to stop. So, in comes the Peloton, the exercise craze that's gota huge community over its stationary bike.Earlier this year, the company shippedits second device, atreadmill, and I thought,if a bike can get so manypeople excited about spinning, maybe it could teach meto learn to enjoy running. And that's why, for the past two months,I put the Peloton Tread, and myself, to the testby signing up for my first 5K.So, I just woke up.It is the middle of February, and I'd like you to meet my new roommate. So, here's the thing: theonly place that I could fitthe Peloton Tread was in my bedroom, and even though that was really awkward,I wanted it to encourage me touse it as often as I can.Plus, I was pretty emotionallyinvested in this 5Kbecause we're raising moneyfor pancreatic cancer research, something that's personallyvery important to meas a two-time survivor. The plan is to trainthree to four times a weekfor two months, and we'll see how I go.(upbeat music)If you haven't heard of the Peloton Tread, here's how it works. The machine offers a variety of classes, like hill training, walk / runcombos, and even body workoutslike arms and leg exercises and yoga. There's even programs for 5K training,or you can stream into aclass that's being taught livefrom a studio in New York. The treadmill has a 32-inch touchscreen,a soundbar across thebottom, and knobs on the sidethat lets you control speed and incline. There's a button tojump to the next leveland also another one to stop the tread. The tread has slattedbelts with rugged texturefor smoother landings. Now since I don't really run,I can't really compare itto other treadmills, but I will say thaton the Peloton Tread, I didn't really haveany kind of knee pains that I didfrom other classes I've taken in the past. Now, it's a beautiful piece of hardware, and it better be for $4,500.But where the Pelotonshines is its programming. There is a great variety of classes, instructor personalities, and music genresto suit your mood. And because Peloton isteaching a new classalmost every day, there'salways something new to try. There are also a couple ofother gamification tools, like achievement badges or challengesthat you can complete every month. On your profile page, you can see statslike how you've done the past 30 days, the fastest you've everrun, or the instructorswhose class you've taken most often.I found this to be reallyhelpful for tracking progressover time because it was so encouragingto see those numbers go up andall the miles I was running, that I just really wanted to keep going.(house music)Hey, so it's now been a littleover a week since I got this.I have runseven runs out of the past nine days.A lot more than-- basically more than I didin the entire last year, I think.I haven't really been able torun more than two-ish milesevery 30 minutes, whichI think is a good start. The fact that I can just roll out of bed,put on my shoes, and just start in my PJsif I wanted to actually helps a lot.I normally start with a10-minute warmup walk, and then a 30-minute beginneror intermediate class. It's actually kind of funny how wellthe gamification features worked. For example, at the end ofMarch, I was two miles awayfrom a gold badge and Iadded a power walk sessionat the end, just to get the badge.Surprisingly, it was kind ofhard to get into a live class. They were either superearly in the morningor at times that I wasn'tquite home from work yet.And when I was, it waslike body weight trainingthat wasn't really what I was looking for.I wish there were morelive running classesbecause it would have been really niceto see the leaderboards jump around. After all, Peloton is about the communityand I really would haveloved to see that in action.(rhythmic house music)Update time, I lookpretty gross right now,but I'm really excited 'causeI have to show you all.I started out at about twomiles for every 30 minutes, and today's the first time I crossed 2.5.In fact, I hit 2.62, which is like, wild. That's a lot more thanI thought I could do,especially since I, again, hate running.Yeah, I don't know if Iwill credit the Peloton. That would discredit myselfbecause I did work really hard, however, I'm a little nervousabout trying to run outside. But so far so good, I'm really excited.Guess I'll check back in soon. The first month withPeloton is like the weekafter a New Year resolution.I was consistent, I was motivated,I saw progress really quickly. Then I lost my routine.(calm house music)I just finished my run of the day.I have to admit that this pastweek I haven't been very goodat keeping my runs.As you can see, this isthe entire past monthsince I started on February 19th.And I skipped a lot ofdays in the past week. It's just been a little busy.My bad.But the good thing isit seems like I'm stillgetting faster with every run.My pace is still quite slow, but I thinkthat if you compare it tothe very, very first timeI worked out, I went up a lot.Anyway, I have now abouttwo, three weeks left'til my 5K, which is nerve-wracking.Right now, the pace isgood, I think I'm just going tohave to keep trying tosustain that pace on my ownsince the treadmill keepsup the pace for you.So, now that the weather isgetting nice in New York,I will be running outsideand seeing how I fare.In the final weeks leading up to my race,I actually did go and train outside.Overall, that made me feel pretty goodabout the training I hadbeen doing with Peloton. But leading up to the race,I was still pretty anxious about it.(upbeat electronic music)7:00, we reallygotta hit the roadbefore we're too late.Very nervous, didn't get any sleep. But that's okay, let's do it.- I believe you can do it.- Thanks, mom.I think I'm about a mile and half, two. What do you think, Rick?- Oh, a mile and--- Change?- Change.- Yeah.- Mile and a third.- Feel good, feel good, let's do this.- Turn to the right.- Yes, finish strong.(crowd cheering)- Okay, I finished at 32, which is crazy.I don't know, like aftermile two I was very windedand tired, but then I thinkI saw people coming closeto the finish and everyonejust felt so energized. And there was a sea of purpleshirts that just felt like, just keep going, and I did it.It's a good day.So that's how I went from bed to 5K,and you probably want to know by nowwhether the Peloton Tread was worth it.There were definitely a couple of thingsI didn't love about the machine, such as how the screenwobbles a little bitwhen I'm running, and theoccasional software lagsthat affected the stream quality. And to be honest, it'skind of silly to thinkof your treadmill as somethingthat could be brickedby a bad software update. That said, the best partof the Peloton are the classes, and I found those to bethe most helpful aspectof encouraging myself to train every week.I really enjoyed howthe instructors were funto follow along to, andthe way they carriedthrough the class with smalltalks about current events, like InternationalWomen's Day, or even jokesabout how the weather was in New York. You can access these classesthrough a digital membershipfor just $20 a month, whichis a lot more worth the valueif you already have atreadmill or a gym membership,or plan to run outside. So in the end, althoughI never quite foundthat runner's high, I am reallygrateful to be able to saythat I can now complete a 5K.The experience gave me a lot of confidenceto go on another race. And even though it wasreally ridiculous havingthe Peloton Tread in my bedroom,we went through a lot togetherand I think I'll actually miss it.Thanks a lot for watching. It means a lot to me to beable to share this journeywith you guys, and I'd love to knowwhat kind of tech have youused to achieve somethingthat you'd never thought you could do?Let me know in the comments.\n"
