**First Look and Unboxing: Toshiba Chromebook**
We're excited to bring you our first look at the Toshiba Chromebook, a budget-friendly laptop that recently won one of our Best of CES Awards. With a price tag of $299, this device promises to deliver a capable computing experience without breaking the bank. Let's take a closer look at what we found under the hood.
As we pulled out the Chromebook, we were greeted by its sleek and sturdy design. The laptop feels solid in our hands, with a weight that's perfect for everyday use. On the spine, we noticed two USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI output, a 3.5mm headset jack, an SD card reader, and a lock port. It's clear that Toshiba has focused on providing a comprehensive set of ports and connectivity options.
**Turning it On**
With the power cable plugged in, we were eager to turn this Chromebook on and see what it had to offer. As soon as we pressed the power button, the device sprang to life, revealing its 13-inch display. While it's not a touchscreen, the screen is bright and clear, with good color representation. We're happy to report that the keyboard feels incredibly nice to type on – it's like using a full-size keyboard, with a smooth and responsive typing experience.
**Chrome OS Experience**
As we explored the Chromebook, we were struck by how well Google has refined its Chrome OS experience. The interface is intuitive, with a familiar layout that's easy to navigate. We were pleased to see a file explorer, which offers a more traditional computing experience. While Chrome OS will always be known for its web-centric approach, Toshiba has done an excellent job of incorporating more desktop-like features without straying too far from the web-based model.
**Touchpad and Battery Life**
One area where the Chromebook truly shines is in its touchpad. The multi-touch input is smooth and responsive, making it perfect for navigation and scrolling. We also appreciated the large size of the touchpad, which makes it easy to use with one hand or two. And when it comes to battery life, Toshiba has promised an impressive 9 hours of usage, which we're eager to put through its paces.
**Conclusion**
The Toshiba Chromebook is a compelling option for those looking for a budget-friendly laptop that still delivers a capable computing experience. With its solid design, smooth keyboard, and excellent touchpad, this device is well-suited for everyday use. While it's not perfect – the HD display resolution is 720p, which may be a disappointment for some – we're confident that Toshiba has created a top-notch Chromebook at an unbeatable price point.
