'Alexa, Intruder Alert' - With Smart Curtains, Philips Hue & More!

**Setting Up Voice Routines with Amazon Echo**

In this article, we'll explore the process of setting up voice routines with Amazon Echo, a popular smart speaker that allows users to control various devices and appliances in their home. We'll also discuss some of the potential limitations and considerations when it comes to creating these routines.

**Basic Setup**

To start using Amazon Echo's voice routine feature, you'll need to set up your device first. This involves connecting it to Wi-Fi and registering with Amazon's Alexa service. Once you've done this, you can begin exploring the various devices and features that are compatible with your Echo. In our video demonstration, we started by setting up a custom message on our Echo, which allowed us to test out some of its capabilities.

**Using Custom Messages**

One of the most useful features of Amazon Echo's voice routine feature is its ability to play custom messages using text-to-speech functionality. This allows users to create personalized greetings, instructions, or even jokes that can be triggered by specific commands. In our video demonstration, we created a simple message that read "What are you doing in my swamp?" and had the Echo respond with the corresponding actions.

**Adding Devices to Routines**

Once you've set up your custom message, you can begin adding devices to your routines. This involves selecting the device you want to control and choosing the specific action you want it to take. For example, we added a light switch to our routine that turned on when the Echo said "Curtain close". We also demonstrated how to use a music player to play a specific song, such as the Imperial March from Star Wars.

**Advanced Features**

One of the most advanced features of Amazon Echo's voice routine feature is its ability to incorporate timers and scheduling. This allows users to set up routines that trigger at specific times or intervals. However, this feature can be buggy at times, and we experienced some issues with our video demonstration.

**Potential Limitations**

While Amazon Echo's voice routine feature is incredibly powerful, it does have some limitations. For example, if you try to drag the brightness slider on a device, you may experience glitches or bouncing back effects. In our video demonstration, we had some trouble adjusting the brightness of one of our lights using this method.

**Additional Tips and Tricks**

One of the most useful features of Amazon Echo's voice routine feature is its ability to integrate with other devices and services. For example, you can use the app to set up a smart home system that controls multiple devices at once. You can also use the Echo to play music from various streaming services.

**Conclusion**

In conclusion, Amazon Echo's voice routine feature is a powerful tool for controlling various devices and appliances in your home. While it may require some setup and experimentation, the payoff is well worth it. Whether you're looking to create custom messages, control lights and appliances, or even set up a smart home system, the Echo has got you covered. With its advanced features and limitations, we hope this article has provided a comprehensive guide to getting started with Amazon Echo's voice routine feature.

**Example Routine**

One of our favorite examples of a voice routine is the "Intruder Alert" feature. This routine triggers when the Echo detects movement in the room, and responds by turning off all lights and closing curtains. While this may not be the most practical example, it demonstrates the potential capabilities of Amazon Echo's voice routine feature.

**Troubleshooting Tips**

If you encounter any issues with your voice routine, here are a few troubleshooting tips to keep in mind:

* Make sure that all devices are properly connected to Wi-Fi and registered with Amazon's Alexa service.

* Check that your custom message is correct and accurate.

* Experiment with different device combinations and actions to find what works best for you.

By following these tips and exploring the features of Amazon Echo's voice routine feature, you can create a customized smart home system that meets all your needs.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enalexxa intruder alert resistance is futile time to die alexxa intruder alert what are you doing in my swamp hello everyone I'm Ann welcome back to tech Locker but you wasn't expecting an intro like that for the beginning of my video but I saw this meme going around and I'm like I should do my own version of this as I've got a lot of like smart-home stuff in my room you got loads of Phillips you everywhere we have like smart curtains we have a smart bulb up there as well there's just a lot of things going on here that you know can interact with an Amazon echo so I'm like yeah I'm gonna do my own version of this in person on YouTube it'll be funny so that's what I did hope you guys like that and I'm gonna show you exactly how I did it what products are used I guess and stuff and how you can do it yourself at home if you are an Amazon echo I don't know if this works like your Google home it probably does if you have like your routine stinging on like Google homes I don't really know as I don't own a Google home at the moment but yeah this is for like Amazon echo users only I guess so before I actually go over the app and how I actually did the whole routine sting and set up you know Amazon echo the same custom sentences and playing music and stuff just by you saying intruder alert I'm gonna show you guys that in just a moment but before we do that I'm gonna go over like all these stuff I used in my room that came to act with the Amazon echo right so first of all we have a Philips you LED strip on this desk right here this is a smart like you know sit stand Electric desk right here and we have a simple Philips you a light strip right behind it as well so that's that everything I wanted talking about into these videos well it's linked down below in the description through Amazon links so you know if you see anything that you like if you want to buy any of the products I feature today including everything on my desk right here as well all the links are down below in the description so you know if you see anything you like check the links down below in the description but that's about LED strip we also have a smart light bulb up here and I'm gonna turn that on via the Philips you like a dimmer switch on the wall here so want to press that and the light bulb will turn on so that's that we have a Philips hue smart LED bulb this one is the multicolor one the RGB version it cost like 50 pound for a light bulb it's ridiculous but you know it's pretty much their best bulb available I believe this one's called the Philips you richer colors bulb so that's that moving on we got some more Philips you stuff behind my monitors here so right here we have a Philips you play bar I made a dedicated video about this like a couple weeks ago I think so if you want to get watched that one personally card right there or down there somewhere there'll be a card that are popping up for the physics you play light bars so I've got one here set to green and there another one right there set to blue and then on my monitor stand we also have another LED strip here this one isn't Phillips U is from a company called coogy they sent me this LED light strip it's like USB powered it's pretty cool I've kind of wrapped around my monitor stand right there but yeah we have free LED lights behind my monitors here sooo Philips you play light bars and one coogy LED strip moving on we have a three meter LED strip running pretty much across my inside desk so that's LED light strip begins but all the way here on the corner of my desk it's kind of like a bit dense we can barely see it but that LED light strip begins here it goes behind my PC there behind all the monitors and stuff and pretty much ends like somewhere down there so the LED light strip that stuck on to my inside desk is a one Phillips u 2 meter like light strip plus with a 1 meter extension LED strip added on to that so that kind of makes like three meters across my entire desk as this desk is freaking massive also if any of you gonna be asking me hey young dude what kind of desk is this well like am what kind of desk is this a link in description to those videos or pressingly cars like up here or somewhere on the screen there'll be a car popping up to my desk videos but that's pretty much like this entire side of the room oh I almost forgot I almost forgot we also have a little something down here so once again another 2 meter Phillips you LED light strip that one is still rolled up as that kind of works the best as you know it's behind a subwoofer I'm like there's no point in me like really unrolling the whole thing so I just left the in its role Chuck the behind the subwoofer and yeah that's the Hat and then for the final le light strip we have a like a 1 meter a magic hue LED strip right here as well that's like stuck oh like inside of my bed frame so that's that that one's not Philips you that's magic you like a different company doesn't skort out with home kits or whereas philips hue does so that's all the LED light strips now moving on we got some very exciting the tech right here sup as y'all can probably see we have some curtains here but right there we have like a smart motor as well all right so that's connected to a smart plug that can pretty much trigger the curtains to open and close automatically all right it's pretty sick now it does also work like Amazon echo and an app on your phone of course as you know it is a smart plug so what I can do is say oh actually my Amazon echo is muted let me unmute it by pressing this button right here also if any of you are wondering hey I'm dude where did you get that Amazon echo it looks so sick dude or so how did you get like you know this crazy skin this like wallpaper on it link in description as well everything is linked in the description how crazy right so let's close these curtains close curtains it's magic we are living in the future we can close our curtains via our voice this is not about open curtains Wow so that's that if you want to give a learn more about smart curtains watch my video by pressing the card right there or somewhere there they're very expensive though so bear that in mind for you know curtains Jesus Christ you will you will be shocked once you see the price of these things luckily other than buy them a company called Ajax online send me them to review so thank you guys so much it's a really cool piece of kit it is a shame though that they do cost a ridiculous amount you know given that they're just curtains like these curtains cost more than my graphics card okay just just keep that in mind it's insane but that's pretty much all like these Smart Homes stuff I could have also you know added my monitors to turn off during the the whole like Amazon echo routine thing for intruder alert as all these monitors are plugged into smart plugs so I could have done that I could have done some other stuff probably by maybe somehow adjusting the lights inside of my PC and/or my peripherals as well to the Amazon echo routine however I don't really know how I would do that so I didn't but now that you guys know what products are used you know how this whole thing went down I guess let's hop into the Amazon echo app and I'm going to show you exactly how I set up the routine and how you can set it up as well alright so let's hop into the Amazon echo app there we go we're in the app so Oh do you have to hop into routines right here so press this button right here flat you know the the menu going routines and badda-bing badda-boom this is what we got so all you got to do is you go to press me plus icon up there then what you want to do is select when this happens so press that and then what I'm gonna do select the voice right here and then you can type in whatever phrase you want so you know when you say early acts a enter phrase you know whatever it might be you know it'll execute the whole routine that you set up so I'm gonna do intruder alert once again intruder and true dead one there we go shooter alert one that's what we're naming this one so so the next step is you know really simple what you have to do is just select you know what you want to happen when you say this phrase so what I'm going to do is I'm going device settings you know let's max the freaking audio out to 100% so that'll be volume ten damn it I just messed everything up there we go let's try this again right so device settings volume 100% next and that is what you want cool let's add another action by pressing that button we can do let's say smart home we can control a device now I've got a bunch of stuff here so what I'm gonna do select bed power on brightness let's set that to a hundred percent can do color let's set this one to green for example there we go we got a turn on bed 100% green so that's one device now you know you can do this like you know a million devices that is up to you but if you have a lot of lights like I do this can be quite time consuming but you know all very possible so I'm gonna go ahead and say a custom message here as well let's do the whole like swamp thing so uh what are you doing in my song now you can get your Amazon echo to say pretty much whatever you want as long as it's not swear words else I think she'll bleep it out but you can type in anything you want into here and Gamson echo will say it but if it's like a swear word I think she'll bleep it out so what are you doing in my swamp there we go we can play that and then after she sends that we can do a control device curtain then we can go ahead and turn them off so power off and that will close my curtain so that's the way I've got mine set up so you know curtains often will drag this after she says what are you doing in my swamp and the curtains will turn off and we can add a bunch more you know devices here so we can do a bedroom light for example power on brightness now this app is a bit buggy and now and again like if you try to drag the brightness on some devices see the kind of glitches out and bounces back which is a bit annoying so if you're struggling to adjust the brightness on your device instead of trying to I dragged it and you know it not working just you try to press my the very end here and then drag it to a hundred percent then it's go ahead and select the color select green save next so there we go we've got another one set up now I want to do this after the curtains closed so there we go I've got that now if you want you can also add music so you know you can ask her to play Drake anything I'm not gonna play anymore like you know music in this video though as I don't want to get a copyright strike well you know anything like that so my apologies for not playing any more music and stuff but I don't want a copyright strike on this channel or the video to get freaking claimed or something so that's pretty much it I guess but if you want to add music up I'll show you how you can do it at least you can do the whole Imperial March thing Imperial oh god damn it dude March that is what you want and then you can select a provider so I'm gonna do am some music here and you can also set a timer I guess so how long this plays on for but I'm not gonna do that in this case so there we go play Imperial March on Amazon music now you can also of course add even more things to happen I guess after the music began playing so we can select you know the Hugh play lamp to set this one to green and I think that'll be it for our routine so there you go le XA intruder alert one of course you can name yours whatever you want so there we go success it may take up to one minute for voice routines to take effect I guess so yeah we've got it all set up now for those wondering how I set up the previous one this is how in-depth it was it's not really that in death it's just kind of a very time-consuming I guess right so we got bad sign on a 42 percent crimson so a lot of the colors were either like crimson or red so at first I turned like all the lights on at like 50% brightness then I said I bought into ten it said a resistance is futile time to die it closely curtains and whilst the cutters are closing all the lights set themselves to red and 100% brightness and then we played the Imperial March now I could have also added even more things to happen after that but this is already a pretty complex routine so that's that I now let's go ahead and try out our intruder alert one and see if that's working all right so I've gone ahead and turned off like all the lights in my room everything's ready so intruder alert one we go that's an green somebody's in the bed son red and that's not meant to happen but the curtains closed right so that's pretty much it for today's video hopefully y'all enjoyed watching it hopefully you learned some stuff or you know you just found it entertaining at least let me know if you guys want to see more videos like this I guess involving freaking means and stuff but yeah thank you so much watching once again everything I featured in today's video is linked down below in the description all the videos all the products freaking everything dude oh yeah thank you so much for watching I hope to see you in and on the video soon goodbye subscribe enjoyed the videoalexxa
