**A Review of the OnePlus 10R with Flip Design**
The OnePlus 10R is a foldable smartphone that boasts a unique flip design, allowing users to easily switch between different modes. The cover screen, also known as Flex Mode, can be used as a stand-alone device or converted into a full-screen display by swiping up from the bottom of the screen. This feature is particularly useful for watching videos or taking remote shots with the camera.
One of the standout features of the OnePlus 10R is its camera system, which includes a main lens, ultra-wide-angle lens, and telephoto lens with three times optical zoom. The camera also features a six times sensor zoom, which is surprisingly good considering it's a foldable device. The main lens uses a new pixel-stacked sensor, similar to the one used in high-end smartphones, and delivers excellent image quality.
The OnePlus 10R also comes with Oxygen OS 13.2, which provides a smooth and user-friendly interface. While the company promises four years of full Android OS updates and a fifth year for security, this is a decent offering considering the competition. The device ships with Android 13 out of the box, which is expected to receive Android 14 updates in the near future.
In terms of performance, the OnePlus 10R delivers solid results, making it a strong contender in the market. However, the low-light quality of the telephoto lens can struggle slightly, and faster shutter speeds would be beneficial for better image quality in such conditions. The device also has a 20-megapixel tablet selfie and a 32-megapixel front cover selfie, but the main camera is still the best option.
The OnePlus 10R's video capabilities are decent, but not exceptional. While the device can capture good footage, it lags behind other smartphones in terms of zoom functionality. Nevertheless, the low-light video quality is acceptable, and the device's flip design makes it easy to record videos with a clear view of yourself as you move around.
**First Impressions**
After spending a week with the OnePlus 10R, I can say that this is an impressive device that checks many boxes for users looking for a foldable smartphone. The software is smooth and user-friendly, the camera delivers excellent results, and the battery life is great. While the hardware may not be as impressive as some of its competitors, the overall package makes it a compelling option.
In fact, I would say that the OnePlus 10R is the best foldable smartphone I've had the pleasure of reviewing, outpacing even the Samsung Galaxy Fold 5 and Honor Magic V2. The device's pricing is also very competitive, making it an excellent value for users who want a high-quality smartphone without breaking the bank.
**Would You Be Tempted to Buy One?**
So, would I recommend the OnePlus 10R? Absolutely! If you're in the market for a foldable smartphone and are willing to sacrifice some hardware performance for a more user-friendly design, then this is an excellent choice. The software, camera, and battery life all deliver exceptional results, making it a great option for users who want a seamless and enjoyable smartphone experience.
Of course, as with any device, there may be some trade-offs to consider. But overall, the OnePlus 10R is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a foldable smartphone that delivers on its promises. "WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enso how the heck have OnePlus swooped in with the open and made arguably the best foldable and the one that I would genuinely want to carry around every day and use as my main phone well it may be oneplus's first folding phone but it certainly ain't oppos and they're launching an identical Oppo Find N3 in China obviously they are sister companies they're under the same sort of Umbrella Corporation from BBK really except for the oxygen OS software and the fact that this is launching here in the UK and the US other Western markets this is essentially an Oppo falling phone so let's start with this design and while the ludicrously large camera module may not be everyone's cup of tea it does actually make for a helpful little ledge to rest some of the weights on on your finger and I'll forgive it because it's actually a really good camera in fact we have five cameras three on the back here and then one selfie for each screen although except for maybe making video calls most of the time you're going to be using these main cameras with the cover screen as a view you find it of course it folds fully flat as you would expect it's lighter than a Samsung fold 5 and thinner we're talking 5.8 mm when it's unfolded or 11.7 when it's folded which puts it about halfway between the F 5 and the honor magic V2 which I do still think offers the best inclass hardware for a foldable it comes in two flavors this is the emerald dusk color which is basically just like a nice OnePlus dark green or should I say Oppo green um it also comes in a Voyager black which actually has a vegan leather material on the back this is glass we get ipx4 resistance which means it will survive a splash of rain tougher glass including a new ceramic guard for the cover screen not to be confused with Apple's ceramic shield and OnePlus say is tougher than G glass although the main tablet screen uses a ultra thin glass or utg layer I also appreciate OnePlus have added an anti-reflective coating for this main tablet screen and again if I bring in that Galaxy fold 5 side by side you can really see the difference which obviously is very helpful if you watching videos and movies on this tablet screen because the basically Square aspect ratio means you're going to get some pretty chunky black bars if you're watching videos and movies which is pretty useful what's not so useful is how much of a finger printy smudgy mess these screens are like it literally picks up every little piece of dust and grubby little porw print that you've put on the screen definitely bring a microfiber cloth with you on the side we have an alert slider which I'm always happy to see a volume rocker the power button doubles as a fingerprint reader plus of course we have face unlocking we have a triple speaker setup strangely enough uh designed for spatial audio and will also adapt based on what orientation you're using it and these sound pretty good although there is a bit of distortion and tininess at the highest volumes so suspicious Travelers what are you doing in Mona but the best bit no the two best bits if I bring in the fold five again just look at the difference with that crease the OnePlus open has the most s crease I've seen on a foldable so far magic V2 not far behind and then the Galaxy fold and then well the pixel fold which honestly just looks like a prototype device OnePlus also used the same flexion hinge that Oppo introduced earlier this year in the foldables there's a good amount of flexibility in Flex mode it feels good in the hand as the YouTube cliche goes and just little things like how it sounds when it closes it all feels very well made but the second best bit is this cover screen because thankfully OnePlus have gone with a normal 20 by9 aspect ratio here which is the same as most traditional smartphones unlike say the Galaxy F 5 with its kind of remote control super narrow screen which just feels claustrophobic to use especially with your typing so I'm quite happy to use this cover screen 90% of the time and then unfold it if I want to have a couple of apps side by side or maybe read an article or a book or play a game so on the front we have a 6.31 in cover screen with a 10 to 120 HZ refresh rate and opening it up we have this 7 82 in near enough 1 to1 square tablet screen now this is a slightly higher end screen it has a more efficient ltp3 display so we get 1 to 120 HZ also a faster 240 HZ touch response rate 1440 HZ pwm dimming Dolby Vision HDR and it is insanely bright we're talking 1,400 nits with regular typical use and up to 2,800 nits outdoor Peak brightness although after a few minutes it will start to dim but that super duper brightness comes in handy when looking at photos in your gallery OnePlus call it pro xdr again someone's definitely been copying Apple's homework when it comes to naming features but it makes highlights in your photos really pop off that screen now specs Wise It's say Flagship as you would expect for the price have you talked about the price £1,600 which yes is very expensive especially for a OnePlus I'm not sure really if they have that brand recognition yet to charge that kind of price we'll see but actually it's quite competitive it's cheaper here in the UK than the pixel fold which is madness to me and also the Galaxy fold 5 and it comes with a better spec Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 16 gigs of RAM and 512 storage that's 4 gigs more RAM and double the storage than the base model of the fold 5 and actually OnePlus do have some deals and coupons and free stuff uh with the early orders of this OnePlus open so you could get it as low as like I think $1,500 I worked out with some of the sort of extra benefits it is a lot of money but it's actually not bad at all for a falling phone so as you would expect this is incredibly fast and it runs every game as flawlessly as you can right now on Android now in this 20 minute stress test the OnePlus open didn't quite match the fold 5's high score but it did beat the low score and we have a higher stability rating you can see on the graph the fold's performance starts to dip after just the second run whereas the OnePlus barely breaks a sweat until the 9th also look at this the fold 5 had used 12% of its battery versus just 5% on the open it stayed cooler throughout the frame rate was the same so I would call this a big win for the OnePlus I've also been really impressed with the battery now inside we have a 4,805 Milah cell it's a dual cell design so we've got a big one I think on this side and then a smaller one on this side 485 which isn't quite as big as the 5,000 m power we get in the autom magic V2 but it is 20% bigger than what we get in the Galaxy fold 5 but I did use this and the fold 5 as similarly as possible over a full day and I ended up with about 22% of my battery left on the fold 5 and 30% on the OnePlus open so this does last a good amount longer like a good extra hour or so over the Samsung and it will comfortably get you through a full day however when it comes to charging I have some good news and I have some bad news the good news is that it does support uh oppos sorry oneplus's 67 wat super vuk charging uh which means you can go from 1 to 100% in about 42 minutes which makes it one of the fastest charging phones over a wire connection you can get great the bad news is it doesn't support any kind of wireless charging now does the on Magic V2 and yes the Galaxy fold 5 is a little bit thicker but that has Wireless and also reverse wiress charging however what I think really makes the OnePlus open stand out and finally give the fold five some proper competition is the software the features and the multitasking we have this new feature called open canvas and it kind of takes your regular split screen View mode to the next level you can still have two apps side by side of course with a third floating on top but in open canvas you've got your main active window front and center which can be moved around and resized so you can create a sort of workspace and then quickly switch between them you can have up to three app windows on screen at any point and up to nine multi-app presets which can be saved so you can then fire up your favorite combo of apps with just one press I also really like that we have a taskbar the f F 5 also has it but not all foldables do and it just makes this feel more like a desktop experience with your recent apps on the right and your pinned apps on the left you can also then easily drag and drop them into split view or floating windows and also a long press on the side will hide the taskbar you can also choose what happens when you close the tablet screen whether the app resumes on the cover screen or you have to swipe up to resume which is how I use it and of course you can customize how apps display on the tablet screen whether it's full screen or they're native size so nothing gets cut off there's also a handful of apps that make use of putting your phone in Flex mode although really it's only the camera and YouTube that make any sense to me as it utilizes the folding design to become its own little stand which is very helpful for taking remote shots or watching a video without having to find something to prop it up against I also very much appreciate unlike the honor magic V2 that when you do use this cover screen as a camera viewfinder you can also send the full camera UI to the front as well just remember to look at the main camera lens and not the screen so OnePlus does the folding software Ware just as well as the folding Hardware which is really important and not guaranteed when it comes to foldables they also promise four years of full Android OS updates with a fifth year for security which is fine it's pretty decent not quite up there with Samsung or Google but four years is pretty good although this does ship Android 13 with their oxygen OS 13.2 skin I believe on top which is very nice I love oxygen OS although I'm told oxygen OS 14 running Android 14 will be here in a few weeks and finally let's talk about this camera with a natural excellent dynamic range and I'm really impressed with the zoom even though it's a three times Optical OnePlus are confident enough to put a six times shortcut in the camera app and fair enough now low light does struggle a little bit more quality is still decent but it can struggle with slight movements from you or your subject resulting in a blurry photo so faster shutter speeds will be good to see in lower light you do of course also have a 20 megapixel tablet selfie and a 32 megapixel front cover selfie but you'll always be better off using the main camera I would also say that video has never been the strongest point of a OnePlus camera system and here the quality is solid if not exceptional and also is a little bit frustrating that there aren't any Zoom shortcuts you have to manually zoom in and out all right let's try some low light video what do you think Mr Tech champ I don't know I can't see we're about to get run over as well yeah it's true we can't see but wait
