2020 13-Inch MacBook Pro - Everything New!

The New MacBook Pro: A Comprehensive Review

As we dive into the specs of the new MacBook Pro, it's essential to take note of those key features that set this machine apart from its predecessors. One of the most significant upgrades is the Intel processor. Apple has chosen to stick with 8th gen Intel chips for the base models, but if you're looking to step up to the latest and greatest, you'll need to opt for one of the 10th gen Intel chipsets. These newer chips offer a substantial increase in performance, particularly when it comes to dual-core processing. In fact, they provide around 2.8 times the performance of their 8th gen counterparts.

Another notable upgrade is the storage capacity. Apple has doubled the storage across the board, starting at 256GB for the base models. If you're sticking with the 8th gen chipset, you can still opt for up to 2 terabytes of storage, but if you switch to one of the 10th gen Intel chips, you'll find yourself limited to a maximum of 4 terabytes of internal storage. This represents a significant increase in storage capacity, making these machines ideal for users who need ample space for their files and applications.

Moving on to memory, the base models still start out with 8GB of RAM, but this can be upgraded to 16GB if you opt for one of the 10th gen Intel chips. The new MacBook Pros are using faster memory, which is a 33MHz ramp that provides a significant boost in performance. In fact, the new RAM is around 30% faster than its predecessor, making it an excellent choice for users who require high-performance computing.

One of the standout features of the new MacBook Pro is the introduction of Intel Iris Plus graphics. The lower-end models using 8th gen chipsets are still equipped with Intel Iris Plus 645, but those using the 10th gen Intel chips get to enjoy the improved Intel Iris Plus 655. This represents a significant upgrade in terms of graphics performance, making it ideal for users who need to run demanding applications or work with large files.

Another notable feature is the support for higher-resolution displays. The new MacBook Pro can now accommodate a 6K display, which means you'll be able to take full advantage of the Apple Pro Display XDR. This is in contrast to previous generations, where they could only handle a 5K display. This represents a significant improvement in terms of display capabilities and makes these machines ideal for users who need high-resolution displays.

Battery Life and Audio

One area where the new MacBook Pro doesn't deviate significantly from its predecessor is battery life. Apple has confirmed that both the 13-inch MacBook Pro models will have the same battery life as their predecessors. However, they do introduce Dolby Atmos support for audio, which is a significant improvement over previous generations.

Wi-Fi and Camera

Unfortunately, the new MacBook Pro doesn't feature Wi-Fi 6, sticking with the older Wi-Fi AC standard. Additionally, the FaceTime camera remains at 720p resolution, which may be a disappointment for some users who were hoping for an upgrade in this area.

Pricing and Customization

Finally, let's talk about pricing. The base model starts off at $1,199, but if you opt for one of the higher-end configurations, including the latest Intel chips, the price jumps to around $1,799. However, if you're looking to max out your machine, you'll need to go with one of the 10th gen Intel chipsets, which is the only way to get up to 32GB of RAM and 4 terabytes of internal storage.

Conclusion

The new MacBook Pro offers a significant number of upgrades over its predecessors, including improved performance, increased storage capacity, faster memory, and enhanced graphics capabilities. However, some areas remain unchanged, such as battery life and Wi-Fi support. If you're looking to maximize your machine's potential, you'll need to opt for one of the 10th gen Intel chipsets, which will give you access to more features and a better overall experience.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwelcome everyone happy Monday it is Andrew here from Apple Insider and we are talking about the brand new just released 13-inch MacBook Pro 2020 now I know a lot of you are expecting to see a 14 inch MacBook Pro replace the 13 inch and it looks like that's not in the cards for right now whether that was always as intended or some other delays cropped up we don't know but this is what we have right now to work with and we are excited because there are some significant improvements across the board for this line so it's go ahead and jump into it starting off with what a lot of people are probably going to be asking is the keyboard is it the same keyboard that has been giving us problems in the past no this is the brand-new magic keyboard first debuted with that 16 inch MacBook Pro before making its way to the 13 inch MacBook Air back in March and now we have it on the 13-inch MacBook Pro it has all the things you like that the new scissor switch design that's going to be more reliable tried-and-true got one millimeter of key travel we've really enjoyed typing on the magic keyboards in general so it's really nice to see that come to hear has that physical Escape key and the inverted T design for the arrow keys so a lot of really great perks to that updated keyboard then we have the new Intel tenth generation chipsets these are gonna be a big deal but there's a couple different nuances that are important to pay attention to there are mainly two versions of the 13-inch MacBook Pro there the base configurations and then there are the temp gen configurations and when you're looking there are limits when you're going with that 8th gen Intel chipset so as we go through the rest of the specs to compare it's important to take note of those because if you're looking for something like the max amount of RAM you can't go with those 8th gen Intel chips you have to choose either the i-5 or the i7 of the 10th ghent 10th gen Intel chips so we'll pay attention that as we go depending on what you're coming from you're going to miss a huge increase in performance especially from a dual-core chip around 2.8 times the performance as far as processor goes so stepping down into a respects the next thing we have to talk about is storage Apple has doubled the storage across the board now instead of starting at 128 gigs we are starting at 256 if you're going it with the 8th gen chipset you can go up to 2 terabytes of storage but if you slide on up to those 10th gen Intel chips you can go up to 4 terabytes of internal storage so a lot more storage across the board they're definitely doubling that at the you know lower prices is going to be fantastic much better of value when you're picking up the new machines when it comes to memory when it comes to RAM the base models are still starting out with 8 gigs and they're using that 21 33 megahertz ramp and that can go up to 16 gigs if you go up to those 10th gen chips 16 gig now standard on those and they're using faster memory it's the 37 33 megahertz Ram so faster 30% faster Ram on those more than 30% faster and you can go up to 32 gigs so if you have the high-end one of those upper end temperature Intel chipsets then you can go to 32 gigs of ram in there when you're building yours to order it is a customizable option 32 gig first time for the 13-inch MacBook Pro Apple is also featuring new Intel iris plus graphics we have Intel iris plus graphics on those 10th gen models the lower-end models using those 8th gen chipsets they are on Intel iris plus 645 different from the 655 Intel - plus previous gen ones that we saw on the 2019 MacBook Pros 13-inch so an improvement there in graphics but I think it's really on those 10 Gen Intel chips that were seeing the better performance because those have much better graphics and it's going to enable you to use a 6 K display so both of them can use a 5k display previous gen could support a 5k display but the new upper end MacBook Pros 13-inch can now support a 6k display which means yes you can use the new Apple Pro display XDR with your 13-inch MacBook Pro these machines have the same battery life as the previous generation they now support Dolby Atmos for audio there is no Wi-Fi 6 sticking with Wi-Fi AC here and unfortunately no improvement to that FaceTime camera still only 720p so we didn't get quite all the changes that we were hoping for this time like the better Wi-Fi improved camera and possibly the larger display fortunates display but we still got a lot of great improvements here these machines start off at $12.99 or 1199 for education pricing but I think a lot of if you want to max this thing out you want that you want to use this XK display you want to have 32 gigs of RAM when you're building this thing you maybe want that 4 terabytes of internal storage you want any of those things you do need those new much faster much better temp generation Intel chips that 2.0 gigahertz I 5 or the i7 models any of those those are tat $17.99 so there is a kind of limiter there between those aging chips and attention chips if you really want to max this thing out you gotta go with the 10th gen which I think you guys all knew anyway and I probably don't need to tell you so that is it the new MacBook Pro is available to order now you can grab these things at that linked down below in
