Day Two of the Bull Run 2006: A Long Day in the Ford GT
As we set out on day two of the Bull Run 2006 in our trusty Ford GT, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation. We were leaving Toronto, Canada, and making our way through Windsor, Ontario, with Chicago as our ultimate destination. But little did we know, this day would be filled with its fair share of challenges.
As we began to leave the garage, Rollings' car caught up to us, and it was clear that he had a rough night the previous day. His driver was still recovering from a bout of vomiting, which left him looking quite green around the gills. "Rollins ain't stopping for that," I heard one of the drivers say with a chuckle. We continued on our way, trying to make as much progress as possible despite the difficulties facing Rollings.
The GPS system in our car proved to be reliable, guiding us through the winding roads and ensuring we stayed on track. As we picked up speed, the scenery outside began to change, with rolling hills and lush greenery giving way to more urban landscapes. We could see the glint of sunlight reflecting off the pavement, a reminder that we were making good time.
As we approached our first checkpoint, it became clear that we had a bit of a lead on some of the other competitors. "Hey, I'm yes we are you guys number one," our driver exclaimed with a grin. We pulled over to allow others to pass, but before long, another car was closing in on us. The competition was fierce, and it was clear that this day would be just as challenging as the previous one.
The officer who stopped us at the checkpoint asked for our driver's license, registration, insurance, and a $100 fine, which we happily paid without hesitation. As we continued on our way, our driver explained that there were "Statewide" speed cameras in Michigan, warning us to be on the lookout for them as they could issue hefty fines. With this knowledge, we made sure to slow down and avoid any unnecessary risks.
Despite our best efforts, it soon became clear that the officer was not going to let us off scot-free. He warned us about the dangers of speeding and reminded us that 28 bucks a ticket is no joke. We breathed a sigh of relief as he moved on, but the memory of his stern words lingered in our minds.
As we continued on our journey, my driver couldn't help but express their frustration with the state of Michigan. "State of Michigan is PR be nice but they suck balls," they said with a laugh. They explained that the officers were more concerned with handing out tickets than actually enforcing traffic laws. This sentiment was echoed by another competitor who had also encountered issues with the authorities.
The day wore on, and we found ourselves getting closer and closer to our destination - the House of Blessings Hotel in Chicago. As we approached, my driver exclaimed "Here We Come baby," a testament to their excitement at finally reaching the finish line. Despite the challenges we faced along the way, it was clear that this journey had been one to remember.
The competition may have been fierce, but our determination and teamwork saw us through even the most trying of times. As we crossed the finish line, we couldn't help but feel a sense of pride and accomplishment - we had made it to Chicago in one piece, despite all the setbacks along the way.
