DOLLAR TREE DIY _ Farmhouse White Washed Pots _ SPRING 2018
**DIY Dollar Tree Farmhouse Candle Decor: A Step-by-Step Guide**
Hi everyone! Today, we’re diving into another fun Dollar Tree DIY project, and I’m so excited to share this one with you because it’s not only incredibly easy but also budget-friendly. The total cost for me was just $8, and I want to walk you through every step of how I created this farmhouse-inspired decor.
### **Materials Needed**
As shown in the previous clip, here are all the materials you’ll need to create this look:
- White paint (purchased from Dollar Tree)
- Clay pots (available in various sizes at Dollar Tree)
- Floral foam
- Reindeer moss
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
### **Getting Started: Painting the Clay Pots**
The very first thing I want to do is get out this white paint. At first, when I bought the white paint at Dollar Tree, I wasn’t sure if it would be enough. So, I pulled some white paint from my stash. However, I realized that you can definitely get away with just the little bucket of white paint from Dollar Tree.
I decided to start by painting the clay pots white. Now, I have to admit, I put way too much white paint on the first pot. If you find yourself doing the same thing and adding too much paint, don’t worry! You can use a little sponge or paper towel to soak up the excess paint. It’s important to let the paint dry completely before moving on to the next step.
### **Adding Structure with Floral Foam**
Once the clay pots are painted and dried, I realized that I needed some sort of structure inside the pots to hold the candle. The only thing that came to mind was floral foam. I purchased it from Dollar Tree, and they come in various shapes and sizes. I chose square foam because I thought it would fit perfectly into the clay pots.
To secure the foam inside the pot, I used my knife (a fun shoutout to #KnifeNight on Instagram!) to cut the foam down to size. If you’re not familiar with Knife Night, it’s just a lighthearted term people use on Instagram to share their knife-related activities—though in this case, we’re using it for a practical purpose!
### **Adding Reindeer Moss**
Next up is the reindeer moss, which I absolutely love from Dollar Tree. It’s so pretty, but I have to be honest—it smells a little funky. However, it’s not bad enough to make your house smell.
I decided to use hot glue to secure the moss to the foam. This helps ensure that most of the moss stays in place without moving around too much. If you prefer, you can also use the hot glue gun to glue the foam directly to the bottom of the clay pot for added stability, especially if you’re making a larger version of this DIY.
### **Customization and Placement**
I love how versatile these pots are—you can add text to them, like “farmhouse,” “blessed,” or any word that’s special to you. You could even add numbers, such as your house number, for a cute touch.
Once I had the moss in place, I realized that putting the candle on top would make it look more natural and aesthetically pleasing. However, I noticed that when I placed the candle on the moss, it scrunched down a bit. To fix this, I added more moss around the base of the candle so it looked like the moss was growing up and around it.
### **Final Touches**
I’ve been trying out different places to put these little decor pieces around my house. I haven’t quite decided where they’ll end up yet, but I plan to share another video once I figure it out. This DIY is perfect for a spring-themed decoration, but it’s also great year-round if you’re into the farmhouse aesthetic, which seems to be trending right now.
### **Personal Reflection**
I truly love this whole farmhouse vibe—it makes my house feel light and airy, and honestly, it reduces any anxiety I might feel when I’m surrounded by lighter colors. It’s just a calming presence in my home, and I’m so happy I can share these ideas with all of you.
### **Conclusion**
And there you have it—this DIY project is truly as simple as it gets! The white paint dries almost instantly, which makes the process even quicker. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and that you’ll give it a try. Don’t forget to like this video if you found it helpful—it really means a lot to me. I love you all so much and can’t wait to see what you create with this idea!
Until next time, happy crafting!
