July Wrap Up _ 2015

My July Wrap-up: A Month of Great Reads

I'm excited to share my July wrap-up with you all. This month, I managed to read five books plus one graphic novel, which is quite a feat considering how busy I was. As always, I made sure to take notes and record my thoughts on each book, so I can reflect on them later.

One of the books that really stood out to me this month was City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare. I have been reading this series since I was in the seventh grade, and it's amazing how much my perspective has changed over the years. When I first started reading the series, I was 12 years old, and now I'm about to start college as a freshman. It was interesting seeing the characters through new eyes, especially Jace, who is now 17 years old, and Clary, who is 16 years old. I have to admit that it was a bit jarring at first, but I quickly got into the story again.

I also loved how the book ended. I won't give away any spoilers, but let's just say that I cried several times while reading it. Cassandra Clare always has a way of making me feel all the feels, and this book did not disappoint. In fact, it was one of the best conclusions to a series that I've ever read. Overall, I would highly recommend City of Heavenly Fire to anyone who loves fantasy and adventure.

Another great book that I finished this month is Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel. This book was a post-apocalyptic novel that explored the world after a flu had wiped out 99% of the population. The story follows a theater troupe that travels up and down, performing in different towns and cities. Along the way, they also follow other characters' storylines, including an actor and his wife, and a photographer who was once a paparazzi.

I found this book to be really beautiful and thought-provoking. It's a story about humanity and how we survive, and it explores some really deep themes. The writing is simple but powerful, and the characters are all so well-developed. I would definitely recommend Station Eleven to anyone who loves literary fiction or is just looking for a great read.

One thing that took me a bit longer to get into was City of Heavenly Fire, but as soon as I started reading it again, I was hooked. This book is part of the Mortal Instruments series, and it's been a favorite of mine since I first started reading the series. However, I had kind of put it off for almost two years because I didn't want to ruin my expectations of the conclusion.

Overall, I would give City of Heavenly Fire four out of five stars on Goodreads. While it was an incredible read, there were a few moments where I felt like some of the language and characters felt a bit juvenile compared to when I first started reading the series. However, I still loved every minute of it, and I'm so happy that I finally finished the series.

Moving on to my favorite book from this month... well, it's kind of obvious, but City of Heavenly Fire will always be my top pick. There was just something about how it all came together that made me feel so fulfilled. Cassandra Clare has a way of weaving together complex characters and plotlines in a way that feels both easy to follow and deeply satisfying.

I also want to take a moment to talk about the epilogue at the end of City of Heavenly Fire. Let's just say that I died laughing when I read it, and I'm not ashamed to admit it. There's something about Will Herondale that just makes me laugh no matter what, and this epilogue was the perfect example.

That brings me to my last book from July: Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel. While this book didn't blow me away quite as much as City of Heavenly Fire did, I still loved it dearly. It's a beautifully written novel that explores some really deep themes about humanity and survival in the face of catastrophe.

One thing that took me a bit longer to get into was Station Eleven. At times, it felt a bit slow, but overall, I found myself completely drawn into the story. The writing is simple yet powerful, and the characters are all so well-developed. If you're looking for a great read, I would definitely recommend Station Eleven.

As I wrap up my July wrap-up, I just want to say thank you to everyone who has been following along with me on this journey. It's been an amazing month of reading, and I'm so grateful to have such wonderful readers like all of you. Be sure to comment below and let me know what you guys read in the month of July – I'd love to hear about your favorite books!

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey guys it's Hanna and today I'm filming my July wrap-up so July was actually a pretty good reading month for me considering I was traveling in the first couple of weeks so I didn't get too much reading done then but I actually got a fair amount of books I'd say in the last couple weeks of the month I read a total of five books and one graphic novel and yeah I'd say it's it's pretty decent for me I've been in kind of a reading slump so I think six six is a solid number so the first two books were actually rereads for me and those are Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban now I read these while I was traveling I was actually in Europe earlier this month staying with some family and my aunt is a big fan of the Harry Potter books and we were watching some of the movies and then I just kind of got in the mood to read the books and she had the books so I read them while I was there and they're just as wonderful as I remember and you can you can never have too much Harry Potter so the next book I also started while I was traveling and that is The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien now I read part of this while I was traveling and then part of it when I got back I didn't finish it until later in July but yes I started it earlier and then I finished it later and that's because this book was actually fairly difficult for me to get through which is so heartbreaking for me to say because I love Tolkien and I love The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings movies and I I've not read the books I'm currently reading the the Fellowship of the Ring and I finished this one this month because I told myself I have to read them because I love the movies so so much that I have to read them and yeah I gave this a 3 out of 5 stars on Goodreads and I I'm just I was really disappointed I mean I think I would like this a lot better if I had read it when I was a kid because it honestly is a children's story and it wasn't bad it was by no means that it was there wasn't as much going on as there wasn't the movie and quite honestly I preferred the movie to the book and I think that has a lot to do with the fact that they added tower Hales character in there because she is so badass and I love her she's just wonderful and she's not in here and neither is Legolas and Kili and fili don't get to say much in here and it's just I love the movie I wish I'd loved the book as much as I loved the movie but unfortunately it didn't live up to my expectations it was good but not what I thought it would be being next book I read this month or graphic novel I guess I read this month was Anya's ghost and I picked this up actually in the month of July and I read it right when I got it um and this is actually the first graphic novel I have ever read and I have to say I absolutely loved it it was not what I was expecting at all it was actually quite terrifying and I read and made the mistake of reading it at night but it was it was really really great I gave this a 5 out of 5 stars on Goodreads um I just I loved it the art style is beautiful it's kind of like all one tone the author chooses like a purple tone - just go with throughout the entire novel and it's it's just it was fantastic it's so good if you're not really into creepy scary things it's not too too bad but I will just say that it it does have some of those aspects to it personally I love creepy scary types of books so in stories so this was a really really great read for me I really loved this so the next book I read this month I have to say is probably the most exciting read for me and that's because it is city of heavenly fire by Cassandra Clare I have been reading this series since I was in the seventh grade and I have currently just graduated high school and about to go into my freshman year of college now that's a really long time and you're probably wondering Oh Hannah this book has been out for over a year why you picked it up well people I picked this up right when it came out I'm fairly certain i pre-ordered this book because I do have the collectors first edition copy with the super cool dust jacket with all the fan art yeah I really love that but yes I picked this book up right when it came out because I was that excited to read it and then I kind of stopped reading pretty much anything for almost two years so I didn't I didn't touch this I was so excited for the conclusions of the series cuz I loved the series so much but yeah I just I put it off until this month I finally picked it up and I have to say I really really enjoyed it it was kind of strange reading it again because I had read the last book I had read the previous book city of lost souls back when I was I think a sophomore yeah a sophomore in high school and so that was two years ago and when I first started reading this I kind of forgot how juvenile I guess you could say some of the languages and some of the characters are I honestly completely forgot that Jace is 17 years old and Clary 16 years old and that I am now older than them I have been reading about these characters since I was 12 and now they're younger than me and that makes no sense it was interesting seeing them from a completely different point of view but I did really really love it I loved how it ended I cried several times it was just an overall really great book and I'm so happy that I finally finished this series because it's been so long but yes it was great I gave this I think a 4 out of 5 stars on Goodreads but yeah just great book great conclusion always loved my Cassandra Clare and Cassandra Clare and her epilogues man those epilogues kill me and any mention of will Herondale ha it kills me and the last book I read this month was station eleven by Emily say John Mandel now I also started this book earlier in the month and then kind of put it off and then picked it up again towards the end of the month I finished this the very last day of July so yesterday but um it was it was a really really great book I gave this a four out of five stars on Goodreads not a five star for me only because it was kind of slow at times and it took me a little while to read it but it was still an overall really really great story so if you don't know the premise of this book is pretty much it's kind of like a post-apocalyptic world where this flu has wiped out about 99% of the world's population and this story follows a theater troupe that travels up and down just going through different little towns that are still set up performing mostly Shakespeare and also performing music and it kind of just follows them then it also follows other characters storylines there's an actor who it follows and one of his wives and a photographer who was previously a paparazzi and yeah it's just it's really good it's I understand why it won the National Book Award in simple terms it's just a story about human kind and kind of how we survive and what we value and it's just it's beautiful it's a really great book I highly recommend it it's it's adult fiction but yeah definitely recommend this it was great it was really great so there you go guys
