My July Wrap-up: A Month of Great Reads
I'm excited to share my July wrap-up with you all. This month, I managed to read five books plus one graphic novel, which is quite a feat considering how busy I was. As always, I made sure to take notes and record my thoughts on each book, so I can reflect on them later.
One of the books that really stood out to me this month was City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare. I have been reading this series since I was in the seventh grade, and it's amazing how much my perspective has changed over the years. When I first started reading the series, I was 12 years old, and now I'm about to start college as a freshman. It was interesting seeing the characters through new eyes, especially Jace, who is now 17 years old, and Clary, who is 16 years old. I have to admit that it was a bit jarring at first, but I quickly got into the story again.
I also loved how the book ended. I won't give away any spoilers, but let's just say that I cried several times while reading it. Cassandra Clare always has a way of making me feel all the feels, and this book did not disappoint. In fact, it was one of the best conclusions to a series that I've ever read. Overall, I would highly recommend City of Heavenly Fire to anyone who loves fantasy and adventure.
Another great book that I finished this month is Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel. This book was a post-apocalyptic novel that explored the world after a flu had wiped out 99% of the population. The story follows a theater troupe that travels up and down, performing in different towns and cities. Along the way, they also follow other characters' storylines, including an actor and his wife, and a photographer who was once a paparazzi.
I found this book to be really beautiful and thought-provoking. It's a story about humanity and how we survive, and it explores some really deep themes. The writing is simple but powerful, and the characters are all so well-developed. I would definitely recommend Station Eleven to anyone who loves literary fiction or is just looking for a great read.
One thing that took me a bit longer to get into was City of Heavenly Fire, but as soon as I started reading it again, I was hooked. This book is part of the Mortal Instruments series, and it's been a favorite of mine since I first started reading the series. However, I had kind of put it off for almost two years because I didn't want to ruin my expectations of the conclusion.
Overall, I would give City of Heavenly Fire four out of five stars on Goodreads. While it was an incredible read, there were a few moments where I felt like some of the language and characters felt a bit juvenile compared to when I first started reading the series. However, I still loved every minute of it, and I'm so happy that I finally finished the series.
Moving on to my favorite book from this month... well, it's kind of obvious, but City of Heavenly Fire will always be my top pick. There was just something about how it all came together that made me feel so fulfilled. Cassandra Clare has a way of weaving together complex characters and plotlines in a way that feels both easy to follow and deeply satisfying.
I also want to take a moment to talk about the epilogue at the end of City of Heavenly Fire. Let's just say that I died laughing when I read it, and I'm not ashamed to admit it. There's something about Will Herondale that just makes me laugh no matter what, and this epilogue was the perfect example.
That brings me to my last book from July: Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel. While this book didn't blow me away quite as much as City of Heavenly Fire did, I still loved it dearly. It's a beautifully written novel that explores some really deep themes about humanity and survival in the face of catastrophe.
One thing that took me a bit longer to get into was Station Eleven. At times, it felt a bit slow, but overall, I found myself completely drawn into the story. The writing is simple yet powerful, and the characters are all so well-developed. If you're looking for a great read, I would definitely recommend Station Eleven.
As I wrap up my July wrap-up, I just want to say thank you to everyone who has been following along with me on this journey.
