This New Phone Is Also A Game Console And Gaming PC! RedMagic 8S Pro Hands-On

The Red Magic 8S: A Gaming Powerhouse with Console Mode and Emulation Capabilities

As I take a look at my device, I can see that it's currently working as intended. The external display is supported, allowing for a seamless gaming experience with a mouse and keyboard. The mapper built into the system makes it easy to map games to on-screen touch points, which is particularly useful for titles that don't natively support keyboards or controllers.

The launcher is integrated into the system, making it simple to add any app and have it automatically detect games. This feature has already been put to good use in detecting benchmarks. The mouse sensitivity can also be adjusted directly from within this interface. While there are many features that make this device stand out, I've chosen to launch a game to test its performance.

I'm going with Minecraft as my game of choice for now. The chunk is set at 24 and the graphics settings are fancy. Fortunately, this chip can run Minecraft all day at full speed without any issues. In fact, it performs extremely well, even at high graphics settings. With a bit more tweaking, I'm confident that we could push the performance even further.

Next up, I'll be testing Diablo Immortal, another game that I enjoy playing on Android. The controller is set to maximum, and the device is handling it with ease. While some devices may support higher refresh rates like 90 or 120Hz, unfortunately, this one is capped at 60Hz for now. However, even at 60fps, the gameplay feels smooth and enjoyable.

Moving on to Call of Duty: Mobile, I'm using the keyboard and mouse to play. The built-in mapper makes it easy to configure my inputs, allowing me to switch between movement controls and other actions like aiming or shooting. This feature is also useful for players who use third-party controllers that may not be natively supported by the game.

My final test is with some PSP emulation using PPSSPP. Chains of Olympus is up next, and I'm pleased to see that it's running at 4K resolution without any issues. The performance is smooth, with a steady 60fps even when the graphics settings are maxed out. With this device, we can play any compatible game at full speed without worrying about performance.

I'm impressed by how well this device handles emulation and console mode. The interface may not be highly customizable, but it's easy to use and gets us up and running quickly. I do appreciate the addition of a built-in cooling fan, which helps keep the device running smoothly. With its powerful chip, beautiful AMOLED display, and versatility in both gaming and emulation modes, I think Red Magic has truly knocked it out of the park with their latest device.

For those interested in learning more about the Red Magic 8S or the 8S Pro, I'll be sharing some links to my channel in the description below. I'm also planning on releasing a video soon that showcases more of the device's capabilities and features. If you have any suggestions for what you'd like to see featured in the upcoming video, please let me know in the comments below.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey what's going on everybody it's ETA Prime back here again today we're going to be taking a look at the allnew red magic 8s gaming phone now obviously first and foremost this is a phone but in this video we're going to be transforming this into a game console SL gaming PC with accessories from red magic and when it comes to the performance that the 8S is putting out it's definitely unmatched right now by any other phone at the time of making this video because it's powered by the brand new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 enhanced Edition also known as the Snapdragon gen 28 plus which offers a overclock on the CPU and GPU so this thing is putting down some power and when it's paired up with red Magic's cooling system yeah if you're not familiar with these guys we do have a built-in cooling fan it'll spin it up to 20,000 RPM and it's known as the ice cooler 12.0 in the 8S here over here on this side we've got our intake vent we've also got our volume rocker and moving over to this side you can see we've got that red magic switch which will put us into high performance mode and we've got our exhaust for that built-in cooler and they've even kept the 3.5 mm audio jack on this device which is definitely a big deal for a lot of people they have revamped the design of their red magic phones and personally I'm liking these a lot more in the past they had more of a rounded back and they were a bit bulky but as you can see here they've kept this thing nice and thin and one of the main things I love about this new red magic design is the screen as you can see we don't have a notch we don't have a punch hole or anything like that and that's because it's using an under display camera so we've got a full 6.8 in AMOLED display up here it'll do up to 120 hertz and of course when it comes to the specs of the new red magic 8s for the S so we've got a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 plus also known as the Gen 2 enhanced Edition we've got one X3 core up to 3.36 GHz 2 a715 cores at 2.8 2 a710 cores at 2.8 and three a 510 cores at 2 GHz it is using the adreno 740 GPU but it's overclocked to 715 MHz here in the plus model you can pick this up with either 12 to 16 GB of LP ddr5x Ram 128 to 512 GB of storage and all of them use ufs 4.0 so it's super fast storage it's got a full screen 6.8 in AMOLED display and we say full screen because there's no notch or punch out we have that under display camera it'll do up to 120 HZ and you can adjust this from 60 90 to 120 and it's got a maximum brightness of 1,300 nits this is a really great looking display it's got a 6,000 mAh battery with 65 wat quick charging and the 65 W charger is included in the box and it's running Android 13 with the red magic OS 8 UI and the whole user experience here is super Snappy I knew it would be with that new overclock Gen 2 Snapdragon everything loads up really quickly I have tested out some games and emulators and we'll take a look at some of those running in a little while but like I mentioned at the beginning of the video we're going to be transforming this into an Android power desktop gaming PC and there will be more reviews out there on the Snapdragon 8s just as a phone in general camera testing and things like that personally I'm more interested in the performance and before we jump over to desktop mode or what they're calling console mode I did want to show you a few features they have built in here like a lot of their other red magic devices we've got that switch on the side which is going to bring us into I don't know if they're calling it red magic time anymore I know it used to be called that but from here we've got a lot of adjustment now if you're into tweaking and tuning your devices like your laptop or your desktop PC then you'll feel right at home with this phone because we can set up different performance profiles per game that way we can go in here if you want to get better battery life with an easier to run game we can set it up so the CPU clock isn't going as high GPU clock is also down a bit but it'll still run at full speed or we can tot Max this out and there is a hidden performance setting known as Diablo mode which allows this to clock up on the CPU and GPU basically as high as you want to go but jumping in here to gch an impact while we're playing a game we can swipe over from the side twice and it's going to bring up our performance menu right now I'm in Rise mode which is almost the highest end mode we could also go to Eco if you want to now with something like ginch and impact you definitely want to at least set it up for balanced mode but you can see the CPU and GPU clocks change right there just changes that whole power profile for that Snapdragon CPU rise mode is really where it's at also got full fan adjustment from here we can change the refresh rate we can set up Do Not Disturb take a screenshot record a video we can stream live to different platforms if we want to and we've got a performance overlay this is one of my favorite things about these gaming devices that way we've got the FPS listed on screen and you know in terms of performance in Rise mode yeah we can run ginch impact at high settings with the Snapdragon gen 28 plus actually works out really well got a few hiccups here and there but I believe those are shaders still cashing with this game haven't really loaded everything in but if you've ever tried to play this on a lower-end device you know how hard this game can be to run the developers really do pay more attention to IOS as opposed to Android but with a more powerful chip like this you're not going to have any issues running Android games on the built-in display but I wanted to take this a step further and transform this into a desktop PC now before we move over there I did want to show you some benchmarks that I ran on this device and the first one here is geekbench 6 single core coming in with a 2,141 multi 5806 not a bad little bump I mean we don't have a super high overclock on that X3 core but it is helping out moving over to 3D Mark Wildlife extreme 3,906 and I just tried to run Wildlife but it maxed it out as you can see here uh from their benchmarks that have been run so far and uploaded this is better than 9 99% of all other devices that have been tested and the final one I ran here was an 22 coming in with a 1,676 446 and if you take a look down the list here we've got our CPU score coming in at 44,000 GPU is absolutely amazing that overclock really helped out here 637000 and so on and so on this the highest and22 score that I've personally seen out of an Android device so far in order for me to trans form this into a PC or a console I did need a few things now it doesn't need to be red magic branded but I've got the new red magic gaming mouse and I've got the new red magic mechanical keyboard the keyboard itself Works wired or a 2.4 GHz dongle and the mouse itself can be connected over Bluetooth or 2.4 it's really up to you both of them can also go wired if you've got an adapter and personally I always love having a controller handy so I'm just using an Xbox controller I'm going to connect it over Bluetooth and real quick I'll give you a look at the new red magic keyboard and mouse the keyboard is fully mechanical it uses the TTC speed silver V2 switches they feel great very similar to the sound of Blue switches it also has an LCD display and it's fully programmable so we can go through a lot of different things here changing up the RGB you can totally disable it again this can be used Wireless with the included 2.4 GHz dongle or you can plug it directly in over USB type-c it also has a 4,000 Mah hour battery and when it comes to the new mouse this uses the Pix art paw 3395 sensor it's 75 G and it's got a 450 mAh battery little bit of RGB on the mouse full DPI control from a button on the bottom and you can use their Cloud software to kind of reprogram the mouse and keyboard to your liking the 8S does support alt mode over USB type-c and the monitor I have here actually has USB type-c video in and 100 W PD charging out so we can charge this up at the same time but if you don't have a monitor with USB type-c you can always use a cheaper USB type-c to HDMI adapter and basically all we need to do here is go ahead and plug our display in batter's charging because the monitor itself does support it and it will do up to 144 htz over USB type-c this monitor does support it and as soon as we plug it in you'll see we've got just kind of the basic old view we're just mirroring the screen we've got zero latency because we've got a wired connection you don't have to worry about casting or anything like that and we could launch our games right here and play just like it is in mirror mode but we're not going to get that full screen experience until we flip the switch over here on the side now as soon as we go into this mode it's going to bring us into red Magic's new console mode so basically we've got the full screen on the external display we can set up the phone screen as a touchpad if we want to and uh we can exit out of this and use the phone just like it is while we're connected to that external display so we basically have two different spaces that we can work in right now but personally I'm just worried about the external display and this does fully support a mouse and keyboard we've actually got a mapper buil in where we can map it to games that don't really support keyboards or controllers so we can use onscreen touch points and this is our launcher we can add any app we want to it'll automatically detect games and it's been detecting these benchmarks also we can change the mouse sensitivity directly from here but there's a lot more that can go into this we just need to launch a game and I'm going to go with let's do something simple like Minecraft down in the lower leand corner we still got our performance profiles that we can work with Eco balanced or rise and from here we can fully remap our keyboard or at least map our keyboard for games that don't support it and I'll show you that in a second but you know when it comes to Minecraft one of the best ways in my opinion to play this on Android is with a controller so I'm just going to grab my Xbox controller and now we're playing Minecraft on the big screen with a controller everything's running from the red magic 8s and this isn't a super hard game to run I do have the chunk sitting at 24 right now fancy graphics on this Chip is going to run Minecraft all day at full speed actually performs very very well so let's take it up a little bit we're going to move over to Diablo Immortal another one I personally enjoy playing with a controller on Android and I've got this maxed out where at 60fps looks great on this big screen here and it plays just fine now I believe that some devices do support 90 maybe even 120 HZ but unfortunately we've only got the 60 HZ option right now from the settings hopefully it's Whit listed in the future but 60 still feels great Call of Duty mobile take a look in the lower Le hand corner you can see we're still on the red magic and I'm using the keyboard and mouse all I needed to do was use the built-in software to map my uh keyboard and mouse and it's pretty cool we just hit that center button on the mouse itself and it'll unlock the cursor in case we need to use the mouse for something else instead of movement in the game you can also use the built-in mapper for controllers but this game does natively support the Xbox controller at least if you've got a third party controller that doesn't work with it you could map it if you wanted to it's actually great for games like gch and impact playing native Android games on the big screen is fun and all but you know my favorite thing to do with a setup like this is emulation and first up we've got some PSP I'm using PPSSPP we've got chains of Olympus and we are at 4K so we're at 8X resolution no hacks and I'm using the Vulcan back in as you can see very smooth experience FPS is up in the top right hand corner I knew we wouldn't have trouble playing any of these PSP games on this device I mean we've got more than enough power so as long as the game's compatible with the PPSSPP emulator it's going to run it at full speed and we could take the res back in God of War 2 3x resolution and I do think I probably could have went up to 4X with it seeing the performance here even with a lot of characters effects on screen doesn't dip down at all we're getting a really steady 60fps with PS2 on this device and one thing I didn't notice through all of my testing I had the built-in cooling fan turned off turn it on here get a little sound effect not too bad I do like this interface I really wish it was more customizable but it does make for an easy set up here we've got everything we need and we can get right into some gaming on a big screen with red Magic's console mode on the 8S so yeah really impressed with the performance that this device has put now I think they knocked it out of the park here love the design a big beautiful AMOLED display if you want to play on the built-in screen but we've also got that console mode so we can turn this into a game console SL gaming PC very very easily now I know some of you probably want to see more emulation on this and I will have a video coming up just let me know what you want to see running in the comments below but that's going to wrap it up for this video I really appreciate you watching and if you're interested in learning about the allnew red magic ads or the 8S Pro I'll leave some links in the description but that's it for this one like always thanks for
