Pebble Smart Watch Review

**A Hands-On Review of the Pebble Smartwatch**

I have had the opportunity to test the Pebble smartwatch for two months, and I must say that it has become an integral part of my daily life. One of the main reasons I was able to take full advantage of this device is its water resistance, which is due in part to this magnetic charger.

The magnetic charger is a key feature of the Pebble, and it's easy to use. It simply snaps onto the watch, and you can start charging your Pebble. The watch face is another notable aspect of this device, with many customizable options available. I was able to install a new watch face called Time Square, which added some extra functionality to my Pebble.

One of the most impressive features of the Pebble is its app compatibility. Available on both iOS and Google Play Store, the Pebble app allows you to send and receive notifications, play music, and even access Twitter and Facebook updates – although this feature is not available on stock iPhones. I was able to test out the app on my jailbroken iPhone, and it worked seamlessly.

The Pebble also comes with a range of watch faces, including Snake II and other custom options. These can be easily swapped out using the watch face store, which is currently in its early stages but shows great promise for future development.

Another benefit of the Pebble is its notification system. I was able to receive text messages, calls, and emails on my wrist, making it a convenient tool for staying connected on-the-go. The Pebble also receives software updates automatically, ensuring that you always have the latest features and functionality.

The watch itself is comfortable to wear, and the 22mm watch band can be easily swapped out for a metal one or any other custom band of your choice. This flexibility is a major plus for those who want to customize their Pebble to suit their style.

**Conclusion**

Overall, I have been thoroughly impressed with my experience using the Pebble smartwatch. Its water resistance, app compatibility, and notification system make it an excellent tool for staying connected on-the-go. While there are some limitations – particularly with regards to stock iPhone support – the Pebble is a device that I highly recommend to anyone looking for a smartwatch solution. With its growing range of watch faces, apps, and customization options, the future looks bright for this innovative device.

**Future Plans**

I plan on exploring the world of jailbreaking further in the near future, with a potential video review on the process and benefits of installing custom firmware on your Pebble. I also hope to try out some new watch bands and explore other customization options available for the device.

For now, I'll conclude my review by encouraging anyone interested in trying out the Pebble to do so. With its unique features and benefits, it's an excellent choice for those looking for a smartwatch that can keep up with their active lifestyle.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey everyone how's it going my name is Matt and if I've never met you before well then nice to meet you if you already do know me well then this is my coming back I've been working with Katon for a while I helped produce content and I took a break over the winter months however I'm back here to produce more content for the channel got some great stuff coming your way and I'm going to bring you here a video today of the Pebble Smartwatch it's going to be a fairly in-depth review going into a lot of details about everything my experience with it I have a lot more than the average person has done with a pebble I can tell you that I was one of the early back I'll tell you about that in a little bit and uh everything about this so this is going to be a long video if you're interested in the pebble watch which is a very very interesting watch if you've probably seen it before but if you haven't well then stick around if you have definitely stick around because I'm going to tell you maybe a couple things you don't know about it as well as review it and check out all the features so without any further Ado let's get started if you're not sure what the pbet was it was born on Kickstarter just about a year ago in April 2012 I believe the launch date was the 11th of April was when the campaign started and it blew people away when it raised over $10 million in 35 days they planned on manufacturing the watches just in a little small manufacturing facility in California however when 85,000 people decide to back the watch on Kickstarter they quickly had to move the process overseas and the shipping date was delayed from September 2012 to January 2013 now I got mine for $99 on kickstarter.com but that has long passed and you can pre-order these now at getpebble.com for1 149 they come in black cherry red and white arctic white or Snow White something like that all three really good colors the black one was one of the first ones to ship that was the main reason I ordered and it was also one of the cheaper ones however now they are all the exact same so no worries there without that again you can get that $149 and I will post the link for get pebble.com down below now as I said earlier these started shipping in January this year and they said they were going to fulfill all 85,000 kickstar backwards before they filled up any of the other ones before they started filling pre-orders or anything of the like so all 85,000 Kickstarter backers are getting their watches first and then they're going to start fulfilling the pre-orders for the other people and as you can see right here this is the box that mine came in I covered up my address but these started shipping on January 23rd after they discussed them at CES now January 23rd was in the first batch started shipping out and they're shipping them out in the order that people back them so if you backed yours earlier in April closer to the 11th then you'd get yours faster than other people so as you can see here mine came yes on January 29th from the Fulfillment center Pebble in California uh as I said I was one of the very first people to back them now out of 85,000 yeah that's me number 685 so like I said I was one of the first people to get them and uh I've had it since just about the beginning of February and it's now almost stand of March so I've had mine for a long long time longer than just SP any reviewer out here on YouTube and I can tell you everything about it now one quick thing is I did have a small problem with when I first got my Pebble within the first couple hours of using it it went totally unresponsive on me however I was very very quickly greeted with an email I sent them a quick help message they sent me a brand new Pebble free of charge I didn't even have to send my old one back until I got the new one it was at my door in like 5 days they said it was a really stange problem something probably with the manufacturing again they're trying to pump them out as quickly yet as precisely as they can and I got one of the very first ones they said it was a weird problem send it back they wanted to check it out and see if they can make sure it didn't happen to anyone else so that was the only problem I had with mine but again it was very quickly taken care of with some higher up people in Pebble too saying that so not a huge problem at all and um what I'm going to do is then give you the full honest review of the one that I've been wearing for just about the last two months and the thing you do have to remember about pebble is in one year from now I come back and show you this watch and it's not going to be the same watch and I can promise you that it will not be the same watch and what I mean by that is how they tote pebble is being an everchanging uh watch in the OS in the watch faces using the SDK it will be constantly receiving updates it's not a watch that you get and you're done with it it is always updating you're always getting updates to your Pebble the software upgrades the watch faces the apps will always be improving and that's the way that they kind of Market their Pebble so that's something you have to remember like I said in a year from now besides the actual Hardware I come back and show you this watch and you won't even think it's the same thing you you'll think it's the next version the next iteration because it's always going to be changing and the updates for the watch just on a side note are almost weekly we are in Pebble OS 1.0 right now if I take you into the settings here if we go into the settings we are in firm more version 1.9.1 when I first got mine it started off in about 1.6 and they've just been adding smaller smaller tweaks to it we're going to see version 2.0 here in about 2 weeks when we get our uh SDK out to the public and then and it could be three four five in the near future again each new version adding new features enhancements definitely things that user will appreciate so again saying that the SDK for the pebble watch was something that they also toted uh they said that for anyone who wanted to develop apps or watch faces for the watch they could do so with their SDK the custom Pebble SDK which are they are releasing in the second week of April and that is just going to blow the possibilities of what this thing can do straight out of the water it's going to be insane the amount of apps people will build for this to put on the store the new watch faces how creative people get it's unlimited it's unlimited so that's something really cool to make note of too we'll be seeing the SDK for developers in the second week of April uh as you can see here I have one of the newer watch faces on here this is called a dub 91 or 91 dub one in the two and it's just supposed to take on more of an oldfashioned watch face you can flip through all your watch faces by clicking up and down here so we have uh 6:00 our fuzzy text text watch we got this one that's in in German we got our 91 dub we got just a classic big numbers we got a classic analog there and then we get back to those and there's even more than this I just don't have them all in my watch at the time because I don't use them all because some of them appeal to other people's more than others so I'm going to take you here into the menu and just kind of show you what's up the user interface is fairly simple there's three buttons on the side and then there is one on the left side three on the right one on the left your charger on the back it tells you Kickstarter Edition for the pebble and it says it's waterproof to five atmospheres and you have your watch strap and it's fairly light uh you really don't notice it when it's on your wrist at all again with the Silicon band that they added or that comes stock on the watch it's uh really easy to almost forget that's on your wrist sometimes so it's not uncomfortable at all it's not a big watch here it is with the iPhone 5 you can see it's just about the width of the iPhone 5 so it's nothing too big it's it's really lightweight as well and it's pretty durable uh the front has scratched on me a couple little times but again they say it's supposed to be an anti-scratch surface I can't totally attest to that uh if you have it on your wrist and you rub up against a wall or something of the like uh it's going to scratch however it's nothing too bad and I'm now even starting to see companies that are creating screen protectors and even stickers and skins to put on top so I've picked up a couple of those I've ordered them I don't have them yet but that's definitely something I wish I would have put on right from the start but it's nothing that deteriorates the eaper display so nothing to worry about there so I'm going to take you inside the menu and and how you navigate is you have your back button and then your your select button and your up and down so if you click your select button it's going to pull you inside the menu here and the first feature that you have is your music feature and if we go in here this controls the music on your phone or whichever device you have this hooked up to so if we go ahead and we click play here there's that and you can pause your tracks you can skip it there we go and you see it's really really responsive like a it's almost instantaneous that was one of the first things that surprised me was how responsive it was even over Bluetooth again this is totally Wireless and you can control your music it's really practical especially if you are in the shower or you have your phone on a dock or something like that you can just control the music right from your watch so that's a nice feature you have an alarm it's Standalone from the iOS alarm so you can just create a new alarm for midnight or whatever and then it'll start buzzing on your wrist until you dismiss it and you can delete it I use it a couple times if I need to but mainly let's use the one on my phone uh in here you have your watch faces you can just see all the watch faces that you have installed on your watch and then you go into settings and then we have one little game right here uh which is snake fin which is Pebble snake for your Pebble watch it's just kind of a little fun thing to play it's not too practical but it's fun to play and it's just an example of a future app or more apps or what we can see in the future and this is available on the pebble Store the app right now so that's how the menus work I showed you the music uh a couple comments I had about this was it supports Android and iOS devices at the moment Windows Phone 7 and blackberry aren't supported if you know anything about the people who create Pebble and their future in the past um they started off by actually creating the Smartwatch that they had as a Blackberry but obviously Rim went down the crapper and that wasn't they were really producing for a niche market uh something that wasn't appealing to many people so they flipped over to Android and iOS using Bluetooth and bang there you go 85,000 pebbles in 30 days so blackberry and Windows Phone 7 isn't supported at the moment Windows Phone 7 they've been kind of talking about it but it's still fairly iffy it will support any version of Android and any version of iOS that you can run on any current day devices you have to have IOS 6 so in order to display your text messages on your Pebble if you're using an iPhone and that's one of the other complaints I kind of had was that this totes what that this is toted to do is give your notifications to your phone uh your text messages and your calls and whatnot but it can't do that uh very well the only thing you get on your phone or emails texts and calls if you're using an iPhone any other notifications Twitter anything Facebook Instagram like that won't come through the pebble because of the SDK restrictions that Apple places on what notifications can be transferred over Bluetooth so with that being said uh you can't push any notifications from your device to your PEB except for the stock Apple applications however if you're jailbroken like myself there's a very simple app you can install called Bluetooth notification enabler and what it allows you to do is push any notification to your Pebble so whether it be Twitter Facebook if it shows up on your lock screen or your phone it'll show up on your Pebble so that's just something to make note of now just what any device can be broken jailbroken running iOS 6.0 iPhone 5 whatever so it's not too big of a deal but that's just something I want to say if you're running Android it's nothing to worry about you can push all your notifications there's even some app in the App Store that do it I don't know the exact names them but you can look them up and you can push any notification to your Pebble uh it seems like it's a little bit more open on the Android App Store with the things you can do but hopefully that gets changed in the future if you are uh using the iPhone so just another note on that um the battery for this is toted to be 7 days I haven't yet noticed that I've probably been getting between four to five which I was a little bit disappointed about again it's not that hard to throw on the charger here it does come with an cluded charger that is right here it's just a magnetic one and it says you're supposed to get seven days I haven't yet noticed that but I was reading something the other day was that the pebble supports Bluetooth 4.0 which is low power Bluetooth on newer devices yet they haven't activated it yet in the pebble so they have to do that through the firmware which it'll come in a future update so that could be one of the reasons why it's draining faster because it's using a higher uh power consumption Bluetooth modes using Bluetooth 2.1 right now which is more Universal however it uses a little bit more power to connect with your phone because this is constantly connected with your phone again so I just got a text message right there and uh as you can see that's how the text messages show up and you can dismiss them so that was on my phone if I skip through here we'll go back and uh so that's what it is again Bluetooth 4.0 will come in the future and hopefully that improves the battery life on your phone as well as on your Pebble the waterproofing on this as I was saying earlier is really good actually it's five atmospheres or just about 150 ft um which is really good I haven't had any problems I've taken this in the pool in the hot tub in the shower in the bath you name it in the rain it'll stand up uh nothing to worry about there it totally waterproof one of the main reasons they were able to do that was because of this magnetic charger you have here it just snaps on it's kind of loose fitting again but I'm not one to complain it's much like the mag safe adapter and you can charge the pebble in about 4 hours from totally empty to full and this is what keeps it waterproof many people are saying oh it's a that it is a um proprietary and it's kind of annoying to use but I don't find that annoying considering the fact that you get a waterproofed watch and uh that if they were use micro USB or mini USB or something along those lines that it would no longer be waterproof again because it would have to go into the circuit boards or the phone in order to charge the pebble so that's also something so before we go here I'm going to show you what the pebble app actually looks like and this is available on the IOS app store as well as the uh Google Play Store and it's free and but in order to use the app you need to actually have a pebble so this is how it is fairly simple you open it up and you can click this to Ping your Pebble so it'll ping the pebble and this just kind of tests the connection this is what a standard text message look like it would just say you know Matt and it would read the message of the text down below and you can just dismiss it by clicking the back button you can click up here and if there's any status updates they show up right here in a flashing red thing and the even cool thing is you will sometimes get a notification on your phone saying hey your Pebble has some new software updates so you can install so here's the watch Face store again it's in its very early stages but let's say for example we want to put uh this one called Time Square on it so we click it it loads it up as you can see it's loading onto the pebble right here you give it a second it sent it over Bluetooth and if we flip through there we go that's the watch face I just installed on my Pebble Time Square and there it is we can go ahead and erase it and it's gone just like that so those are the watch faces again this is the very minimalistic watch Face store along with all the other ones they got in here and we have the game that you saw snake Fin and whatnot and this is going to be expanded in the future again they're getting run keeper support they're going to have a bunch of golf GPS applications the they're really unlimited what you can do with your Pebble again I'm really excited to see what developers how far they're going to take that so that's definitely something cool to know and that's where the pebble is going in the future so again I've had this for two months and I really don't have much to complain about if you have a jailbroken iPhone and uh you have a pebble nothing to worry about at all you get all your notifications however if you're running on a stock iPhone it's a little bit annoying that you only get calls and texts and and emails I wish that by default they would support Twitter and Facebook and Instagram notifications but it doesn't unfortunately again but jailbreaking installing that is not too hard of a task to do uh I may do a future video on this when the SDK is released because as I said this is everchanging this Pebble I'm really really excited to see in the future I may do also a watch band change because this this is a stock 22 mm watch band so I have a metal one that I could flip out here and you can really change the watch band do anything you like any color and really customize your Pebble so I may be doing that and maybe I'll show you guys that in the next video if I bring up another Pebble some more Pebble content so that's my review for the pebble I know it's really long but I really love this device I've had it for two months almost and it's just become a part of me now when I'm not wearing it it almost seems weird the watch is excellent the notifications are great it's such a handy tool and the amount of people that I show to and they're just blown away by what things have come to these days that you can read text messages on your phone answer calls play your music whatever you want to do all from your watch on your wrist so that's the pebble again leave a comment if you have any questions down below I'll be sure to answer them let you know anything you want to know all the links for the pebble are down below and thanks so much guys for watching again sorry this is long and I'll see you in the next videohey everyone how's it going my name is Matt and if I've never met you before well then nice to meet you if you already do know me well then this is my coming back I've been working with Katon for a while I helped produce content and I took a break over the winter months however I'm back here to produce more content for the channel got some great stuff coming your way and I'm going to bring you here a video today of the Pebble Smartwatch it's going to be a fairly in-depth review going into a lot of details about everything my experience with it I yet noticed that I've probably been getting between four to five which I was a little bit disappointed about again it's not that hard to throw on the charger here it does come with an cluded charger that is right here it's just a magnetic one and it says you're supposed to get seven days I haven't yet noticed that but I was reading something the other day was that the pebble supports Bluetooth 4.0 which is low power Bluetooth on newer devices yet they haven't activated it yet in the pebble so they have to do that through the firmware which it'll come in a future update so that could be one of the reasons why it's draining faster because it's using a higher uh power consumption Bluetooth modes using Bluetooth 2.1 right now which is more Universal however it uses a little bit more power to connect with your phone because this is constantly connected with your phone again so I just got a text message right there and uh as you can see that's how the text messages show up and you can dismiss them so that was on my phone if I skip through here we'll go back and uh so that's what it is again Bluetooth 4.0 will come in the future and hopefully that improves the battery life on your phone as well as on your Pebble the waterproofing on this as I was saying earlier is really good actually it's five atmospheres or just about 150 ft um which is really good I haven't had any problems I've taken this in the pool in the hot tub in the shower in the bath you name it in the rain it'll stand up uh nothing to worry about there it totally waterproof one of the main reasons they were able to do that was because of this magnetic charger you have here it just snaps on it's kind of loose fitting again but I'm not one to complain it's much like the mag safe adapter and you can charge the pebble in about 4 hours from totally empty to full and this is what keeps it waterproof many people are saying oh it's a that it is a um proprietary and it's kind of annoying to use but I don't find that annoying considering the fact that you get a waterproofed watch and uh that if they were use micro USB or mini USB or something along those lines that it would no longer be waterproof again because it would have to go into the circuit boards or the phone in order to charge the pebble so that's also something so before we go here I'm going to show you what the pebble app actually looks like and this is available on the IOS app store as well as the uh Google Play Store and it's free and but in order to use the app you need to actually have a pebble so this is how it is fairly simple you open it up and you can click this to Ping your Pebble so it'll ping the pebble and this just kind of tests the connection this is what a standard text message look like it would just say you know Matt and it would read the message of the text down below and you can just dismiss it by clicking the back button you can click up here and if there's any status updates they show up right here in a flashing red thing and the even cool thing is you will sometimes get a notification on your phone saying hey your Pebble has some new software updates so you can install so here's the watch Face store again it's in its very early stages but let's say for example we want to put uh this one called Time Square on it so we click it it loads it up as you can see it's loading onto the pebble right here you give it a second it sent it over Bluetooth and if we flip through there we go that's the watch face I just installed on my Pebble Time Square and there it is we can go ahead and erase it and it's gone just like that so those are the watch faces again this is the very minimalistic watch Face store along with all the other ones they got in here and we have the game that you saw snake Fin and whatnot and this is going to be expanded in the future again they're getting run keeper support they're going to have a bunch of golf GPS applications the they're really unlimited what you can do with your Pebble again I'm really excited to see what developers how far they're going to take that so that's definitely something cool to know and that's where the pebble is going in the future so again I've had this for two months and I really don't have much to complain about if you have a jailbroken iPhone and uh you have a pebble nothing to worry about at all you get all your notifications however if you're running on a stock iPhone it's a little bit annoying that you only get calls and texts and and emails I wish that by default they would support Twitter and Facebook and Instagram notifications but it doesn't unfortunately again but jailbreaking installing that is not too hard of a task to do uh I may do a future video on this when the SDK is released because as I said this is everchanging this Pebble I'm really really excited to see in the future I may do also a watch band change because this this is a stock 22 mm watch band so I have a metal one that I could flip out here and you can really change the watch band do anything you like any color and really customize your Pebble so I may be doing that and maybe I'll show you guys that in the next video if I bring up another Pebble some more Pebble content so that's my review for the pebble I know it's really long but I really love this device I've had it for two months almost and it's just become a part of me now when I'm not wearing it it almost seems weird the watch is excellent the notifications are great it's such a handy tool and the amount of people that I show to and they're just blown away by what things have come to these days that you can read text messages on your phone answer calls play your music whatever you want to do all from your watch on your wrist so that's the pebble again leave a comment if you have any questions down below I'll be sure to answer them let you know anything you want to know all the links for the pebble are down below and thanks so much guys for watching again sorry this is long and I'll see you in the next video\n"
