The Ultimate Dreamcast: A Series of Mods and Customization
I lived with it for a while, and I have to say, it's not that bad. In fact, I've grown quite fond of it. The guys who helped me along the way have been solid. When he was out of stock, he sent me one, and then he contacted me immediately because he knew I wanted more. He even offered a bonus housing for the batteries, which was really nice of him.
One thing that sets this apart is the battery mod. I've got the battery-powered unit powered up, showing off the lighting feature that I'm excited about. The RGB lights inside a see-through case look absolutely amazing. I know some people might think it's just a splatter of light, but trust me, it looks cool.
I've also done a little something to alter the LED to give it an extra touch. It's my dreamcast, and I'm going all out to make it special. I don't want to be stupid and have people not mention any names, so let's just say it's going to be a game-changer.
Now that we've got the lighting feature, let me show you how it looks in action. As you can see, if I was to go with anything other than this type of light, RGB would just be a splatter of light through the case. It wouldn't be acceptable. But this way, it's just enough – still bleeding a bit, but in a good way.
I thought about maybe putting something in there to stop the bleed, but then I'd be worried that it would look odd too. So, let me know in the comments below: do you think the LED mods are cool? In a solid case, they definitely bring out that little triangle better than what this is doing. But still, it's kind of cool.
I'm finally finished with soldering and all those other things. Let me know in the comments below what you think – does it look cool? Is it the little touch I needed to say this is my dream cast? It definitely got last game Hunter's Colors all over it – I love the sticker! The guy who did it did an amazing job, and he also did a mini one for the controller.
I don't have a see-through blue shell yet, but if you guys ever come across one, let me know. I'd be happy to have one of those stickers on my original Dreamcast controller to call it my own. That concludes the hardware mods to the Dreamcast – the ultimate Dreamcast, and that's why. I believe in the end, I'm going to have a ton of fun with this modded Dreamcast, and that's what it's all about: having fun and getting the best pleasure out of your Dreamcast.
WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhello everybody welcome back to another episode of the last game hunter i'm your host paul and today we're finally getting close to wrapping up the ultimate dreamcast build so this is pretty much the last technically mod that was done to the unit and this is a in my opinion one of it is a must-have mod and then the rest of it will be uh showing you how this thing works how the games are done how to put games on a card uh that's another video and then we're gonna show not only will we show the games we're also gonna be testing another product because there are many different ways to make this product hdmi out so anyway guys without further ado let's just get right to it tell you what i've done here get this thing back together and move on so one of the biggest things that plagued the dreamcast as time went by is the built-in battery that was in the controller board now i've already changed the battery in this so basically what happens is you order a little holder like this and this holder here three pins basically the solder i'll show a little picture diagram on that and it just shows you uh that is where your uh battery is the old battery basically you desolder your three pins pull it out and you solder in this new battery with a rechargeable watch battery so this battery is not one of those just put it in lasts a few years and dies this is a rechargeable so when the system is running you're recharging it so there's a bonus right there it should be the last battery you have to put in this unit now another little mod that people kind of escape or don't play around with is the led right here now this led right here uh can be changed so for example with a blue shell and look i also added a new edition it has a custom printed logo put in here which is the black blue and white to match my uh blue shell and you want sometimes you want a blue light you want you don't want that red light with a blue shell uh i made a big mistake when i put my light in i put my light in i thought i was putting in the blue one which i pretty much realized that i zapped one thing to watch out for when you're doing this is how hot your iron is i was using my big bad boy soldering iron at about 470 degrees and i burnt the board now this board was actually my buddy's board i took it and gave him my board because i felt bad and then i created these jumper lines so it was fixable it wasn't like a complete write-off but at the same point it sucked so i fixed it by making these jumpers everything is working fine on this now i hope the joystick ports work good i hope i did not go too far with the damage but the lighting is working now and what ended up happening was a multi-color mod light that i did not even know was in the kit so my light changes colors goes from a bright to a dim moves into another color and i thought after doing all those jumpers what a pain it would be to redo it i lived with it it isn't that bad and i'll show you the guys that uh real soon so it wasn't that bad so in this i just want to let you know that this is the battery mod this is the battery i'll put a link to where i got them off ebay actually the guy has been solid for me when he was out of stock he sent me one and then he contacted me immediately because he knew i wanted more and i ordered a bunch more from him and it was awesome the guy was so good to deal with answered all my questions really fast even actually he i don't even know if he knows but i'm sure he does but he sent me this bonus housing as all the batteries came in a bag like this with the battery already in them so he gave me that extra housing i guess just in case i messed up or whatever the case had been so that was really nice of him so guys i just wanted to show you this i'm going to show you the unit powered up and showing off this lighting thing that i'm talking about so it's really cool if i'm going to go all the way i'm going to go all out and this light sure went all out now i don't want to be stupid and have like some people not going to mention any names a big ring of rgb lights inside a see-through case or or a semi-see-through case and it just looks like absolute hell i just wanted to alter the led to give it that extra this is my dreamcast okay so i'm going to put this back together now um basically we're just going to skip this i'm going to get it back together and show you the lighting going and the beauty now is i don't have to worry about my time but i have to show you that in another video because then i'd be giving away a few things and i don't want to do that so this video was all about just showing you the last piece of physical mod that i had to do to this system i know people are thinking wouldn't the last ultimate mod be in hdmi built into the unit and we'll get to that in the next video right hey so guys as you can see if i was to go with anything other than this type of light rgb would just be a splatter of light going through this case that would not be acceptable i find that the way this is lit now is just enough it still bleeds a bit i thought about maybe putting something in there to stop the bleed but then it's just going to look kind of odd as well so let me know in the comments below do you think the led mods cool i mean in a solid case it's definitely going to bring out that little triangle so much better than what this is doing but still kind of looks cool anyway comment below let me know what you think and yeah i mean we're finally finished soldering and punching and doing all these other things so guys let me know in the comments below as i said this sounds like a broken record there but what do you think i mean does it look cool is it the little touch that i needed to say this is my dream cast definitely got last game hunter's colors all over it i love the sticker i'm going to link that guy as well as he did an amazing job on that and he also did a mini one for the controller right now i don't have a see-through blue shell i have see-through green and i think black and the white ones but i don't have one that i yet could put this sticker on if you guys ever come across one let me know because i'd be happy as hell to have a see-through blue controller original from sega to put one of these stickers on to call it my own guys that concludes the hardware mods to the dreamcast the ultimate dreamcast and you'll see why real soon i called this whole entire series the ultimate dreamcast because i believe in the end i'm gonna have a ton of fun and that's ultimately what it's up to me ultimately it's ultimately what it's all about having fun and having the best pleasure and best you can possibly get out of your dreamcast till next time game over youhello
