The RTX 2070: A Value-For-Money Powerhouse?
When it comes to deciding between a GTX-1080, a GTX-1070, or waiting for the RTX-2070 to become available, there's a lot of uncertainty. However, with the recent release of the RTX 2070, this card has finally dropped into the market and is actually the first RTX card that I like in terms of value for money.
The RTX 2070 is priced at $530 USD or $830 AUD, which is a significant drop from its original launch price. At this price point, it offers decent figures and can be purchased for a relatively affordable price compared to other high-end graphics cards on the market. As we can see from the synthetic benchmarks, the RTX 2070 is bidding out a 1080 comfortably and also bidding out the 1070 by a long shot.
However, it's worth noting that the RTX 2070 still falls behind the GTX 1080 TI in terms of performance. This is not surprising, given that the RTX 2070 is part of the Pascal architecture, while the GTX 1080 TI is based on the more powerful Volta architecture. The RTX 2000 series cards do have an advantage over the GTX 10 series cards, especially in relation to the fire strike scores and overclocks.
The next synthetic benchmark we will be looking at for you guys is Time Spy Extreme. In this test, we can see that the RTX 2000 series cards do pull ahead of the GTX 10 series cards, specially in relation to the fire strike scores and the overclocks. When you overclock the 20 series cards, you do gain more performance. However, if you do overclock the GT 10 series cards as well, then you will also gain performance on those cards.
But what about real-world gaming benchmarks? Let's take a look at some of our own tests with the RTX 2070. We're using an Intel Core i9-7820X processor clocked to 4.5 gigahertz, coupled with 3200 megahertz CL14 timings memory. The first few benchmarks we'll be looking at are for Destiny 2 at 1080p and also 1440p ultra setting.
In the Destiny 2 benchmark at 1080p, what we can see is that the RTX 2070 is comfortably pulling ahead of the GTX 1080 and also the GTX 1070. However, it still falls behind the GTX 1080 TI. This is a little bit more CPU bound than expected, but the RTX 2070 is still able to handle the game with ease.
However, when we look at the 1440p ultra setting numbers, they do see a little bit of an advantage to the 1080 TI in relation to the 2070. This is understandable, given that the 1440p resolution requires more processing power than 1080p.
In conclusion, the RTX 2070 offers excellent value for money at its current price point. While it may not offer the same level of performance as some other high-end graphics cards on the market, it is still a powerful card that can handle demanding games and applications with ease.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: en- Are in the locker for a GTX-1080 or aGTX-1070 or you're possibly waiting for aRTX-2070 to magically dropdown from the heavens.- Yusuf that's your cue to drop aRTX-2070 out of frame so it looks likeit's dropping down out from the heavens.- SHAW! (magical music playing)- So the RTX-2070 is finallyreleased into the wildand is actually the firstRTX card that I likein terms of, dare Isay it, value for moneywhen we look at whatyou can buy one for atthe moment. You can get one for currently$530 USD or in Australia $830 AUD.And at this price point itdoes pose some decent figures.I'll pull up some synthetics for you guysat the moment so youcan see how it performsagainst the other cards in the stacks andyou maybe thinking ofpurchasing in terms ofvalue for money. See hereit's bidding out a 1080comfortably and also bidding out the 1070by a long shot. Howeverit does of course stillfall behind the GTX 1080 TI.Now this card itself, theygave you by RTX 2070 OCedition, I did manage to overclockthis thing about 80 megahertzon the core, about 400megahertz on the memory. This did translate intogains, not just in thesynthetics but also in the games toobut it does come at a cost of increasedpower consumption and the next syntheticwe are gonna pull up for you guysis Time Spy Extreme. Herethe RTX 2000 series cardsdo pull ahead of the GTX 10 seriescards specially in relationto the fire strikesscores and the over clocksdo give the GTX 2070a bit more of an advantage and of coursewhen you overclock the 20 series cards, you do gain more performancebut if you do overclockthe GT 10 series cards aswell then you will gainperformance on those cards. But of course when itcomes to overclockingyour mileage may vary. With that aside, let's take a look of somegaming benchmarks andthen get on with theconclusion with the RTX 2070.(upbeat music plays)- Welcome back to TechYesCity,on this test bench here todaywe are using 7820xclocked to 4.5 gigahertzcoupled with 3200 megahertz CL14 timingsmemory and the first few benchmarksI'm gonna pull up foryou guys is Destiny 2at 1080p. What we cansee in this benchmarkis the RTX 2070 iscomfortably pulling aheadof the GTX 1080 and also the GTX 1070but still falling behind the 1080 TI.1080p is a little bit more CPU bound andI decided to test 1080p and also 1440pultra setting because I believe thiswhere the 2070 sweet spot is going to liebut looking over the 1440p numbers, they do see a little bit of an advantageto the 1080 TI in relation to the 2070.Of course the 2070 is still powering alongcompared to those other 10series, non TI variants. Then moving on to the next title\"Crysis 3\" of course even in 2018there is still thatquestion that goes around\"Can it run Crysis?\"- And in this particulargame at 1080p and 1440pin particular at maxsetting that's very highon all the dials.Yes, it can and it did so very well.I'm surprised to see the 2000 series cardsdoing a little bit better in relationto the other games. Whenwe look at the numberswe can see it's comfortably pulling aheadof the GTX 1080 and also the GTX 1070,still falling behind the 1080 TI of coursebut still starting toweigh up in terms of the2070 being the, at leastso far, the king of the2000 series lineup at least in terms ofvalue for money. Butpulling up some furthernumbers for you guys \"Far Cry 5\" here at1080p we were actually CPUbound a lot of the timesso the results didn't vary a whole lot. Then we move up to 1440p. We then see the1080 TI start to pull ahead of the 2070and also the 2070 gaininga comfortable lead.Yet again over those 10 series cards.Next up here, we got\"PlayersUnknown's Battlegrounds\",a game that is on its way out I believeand at 1080p, the RTX 2070and the 1080 and 1080 TIare nearing maxing out because of the CPUso the CPU is the limiting factor again at1080p here. The GTX 1070 wasfalling a little bit behind.Moving up to 1440p thoughwe then start seeinga difference betweenthese 3 cards but it wassurprising to see thatthe 2070 was a lot closerto the 1080 TI than it was to GTX 1080and I believe this hasto do with some kind ofoptimizations that are happeningfor the RTX 2000 seriescards in relation toPuBG. I'm not quite sure.If I pull up some numbersfrom a previous reviewwe can see that the 2080 as well wascomfortably beating the 1080 TI in thisparticular game and I have also updatedto the latest drivers so the 2000 serieshas had a little bit of time to maturesince the last time I reviewed the 2080.However if you like World of Warcraft, then the bad news isthis game does need veryhigh single core performanceand we are showinghere that I have toliterally max this game outwith a 200 resolution scale just to getthe graphics cards tobe stressed near a 100%and even here we are heading a fierce CPUlimitations. I believe going even highermay stress these cards more but againhere we are getting of a40 FPS with the 1080 TIeven if we drop it down to1440p we are still gettingaround these numbers as the game startsto be CPU bound but wecan see the 2070 is stillpulling ahead of the 1080 and 1070 inthis particular benchmarkthe 1% was showingthis is well and then moving across toSCUM we are testing here at high settingsthis actually performedpretty well in thisbenchmark pulling ahead1080 and also the 1070but still falling behind the 1080 TI.I actually couldn't testthe 1440p for some reasoncuz I was testing on 1080p monitorand to get the 1440p numbers, I wasusing the VideaDSR settings which doesenable a high resolution but in this caseit didn't work probably in only thisparticular game I didn't really undestandwhat was going on there, maybe its a bugwho knows and now the last of the gamingbenchmarks is the Final Fantasy 15 demo. You've got this in twoflavors, you can either setit in default mode with noDLSS enabled or also set itwith DLSS enabled. Now what we saw hereon the normal mode the RTX2070 was pulling ahead of1080 and also the 1070 but still fallingbehind the 1080 TI by quite a bit. When we enabled DLSS mode, the RTX 2070does pull ahead but itdoes so at the expensein my opinion of thisgame, looking a little bitworse than the normal benchmark that we'reused to so DLSS is afeature that is promisedon the RTX 2000 series cards as well asre-tracing but as I saidin the previous 2000series card reviews that I have donewe're yet to see theseproperly implementedin any game and on top of the that,is the game gonna be enjoyable and is itgoing to be mass adoptedand not some show ponygame like Ashes of the Singularity. Now moving on some other numbers inparticular for this card, the power consumptionwith the RTX 2070, I'd imagine would benormally a little bit lower than this butbecause the gigabytemodel is overclocked outthe factory, it was pullingnumbers that are higherthan the 1080 and also the 1070.When we overclocked it, we again increasedpower consumption by a little bit too. This was power that was derived from thewall and that's where we measured itand all four caseshere. Moving over to thethermals, the noise andalso the temperaturesGigabyte's cooling solutionright here is a dualslot cooler this timearound. If we compare itwith the 2080 TI for example where eventhe 2080, they use what's a two and halfslot cooler on those models, so itis thicker and it doesweigh than the 2070,2070 coming at around 850 grams as opposedto the 2080 TI and the 2080 which come inover 1 kilogram. But nonetheless it doesuse less power and doesn't need such a bigcooling solution. Its got 382 mil fanswhich do an absolute fine job of coolingthis thing and keeping the noise low.So we can see here we'vegot 100%, 80%, 60% and alsothe order of fan speedwhich were a little bithigher, I must admit than the 2080 whenI did that review but the noise was verywell under control I'd say at 60%on the fan speeds is the sweet spotfor this card which kept the temperaturesvery low at a comfortable 66 degrees.Which for me personally I do like keepingmy graphics card under 70 degrees. So this cooler is definitely capable ofgiving you quiet noise as well as givingyou low temperatures and of coursedecent overclocked aswe talked about before. But also with this cardin particular, we'vegot an RGB logo on theside here that lines upwith the Gigabyte logo. You can change thisvia software if you wishto. On the rear of the cardyou have got 3 displayports and 1 HDMI andyou have also USB type C if you wish touse that in conjunction with other devicesor VR for example. So there it all is ladies and gentlemenfor the RTX 2000 seriescards from Gigabyte. These are a gunmetalgray and black aesthetic. It does look, in my opinion, a lot betterthan their 10 series counterparts for thesame Gigabyte models. They are includingas well a 4 year warranty on these cardsat least in Australia.Very aggressive, verygood if you're lookingfor something that you can put in yourcomputer, set and forgetand have peace of mind, knowing it is going tolast you a long time. And of course what about RTX 2070 when wecompare it versus theGTX 1080 and also theGTX 1070 and even 1080 TI in terms ofvalue for money. Thereis a reason why I putthese three 10 series cards in this graphbecause I believe theyare closest competitorsto the 2070. And whatwe saw here was prettygood value for moneycoming out of this card. It's also got those new features. If they do get implementedand how and when they doget implemented, I haveno idea just yet becausewhat we're kind of seeingis just demos and promisesin the moment but they do havere-tracing cores on boards, they do have the supportfor DLSS which I'm sure when its releasedit will be pretty goodand you will be ableto benefit from the value the 2070 brings. At least we've been waiting 2 years for itso it's not impressive by any meansbut it still is better, I feel than the1080 at street retailprice and even the 1070.So it is coming in at a decent price pointespecially when we lookat the 2080 which isnearly $300 dollars moreand its not giving youa whole lot more performancebut at the same timeyou still get those newray tracing featuresand as we said beforeDLSS support, so it'sgood to see there is a kind of a valueorientated option for the RTX 2000 seriescards out there. Ifyou're looking to upgradeto these series, thenthis is a decent choice. And that's about it for today's video. If you guys enjoyed thisone, then be sure to hitthat \"LIKE\" button and let us know in thecomments section belowwhat you think aboutthe RTX 2070. Love reading your thoughtsand opinions as alwaysand I would catch youon another tech video very soon.Peace out for now. Bye.(upbeat music playing)\n"
