The Art of Making K Ice: A Japanese Staple
Hello lovelies, it's Emmy I am back today to share with you a quick recipe a much requested recipe and I would I consider something of a Japanese staple and it's K ice so K ice is curry rice but the Japanese version of Curry so it's usually made with something like this um this is just what I happen to pick up at my market when you're in Japan there are a myriad of selections of Curry R blocks so this is um this is a sauce mix it just comes with all the seasoning all the flavor that you need but today I'm just going to show you the most basic traditional kind and uh show you how easy it is all right so let's go in the kitchen and see how it's done.
The first step in making K ice is to cut your chicken into 1in cubes. If you're using chicken breast, it's recommended to add about a tablespoon of yogurt and mix it well. This helps tenderize and keep the meat moist while the chicken is marinating in the yogurt. Next, go ahead and cut your carrots and potatoes into 1in cubes. Then, slice your onions into half2in slices. When your vegetables are all cut, heat your pot on medium heat and add about 1 or 2 tbsp of olive oil to a heated pan.
To add some flavor to the dish, toss in the hot oil with your vegetables and give everything a good mix. The point here is that you just want to get your vegetables coated in oil and then you can add your chicken. Again, don't brown it; instead, just toss it in the oil and mix it with the vegetables. Add some water about a cup and 1/2 to 2 cups until it looks something like this. Let it simmer on medium heat for about 15 minutes 10 to 15 minutes until the potatoes and carrots are fork tender.
Now, bend the Brew blocks so they break on the score lines and open it and add four blocks to the cooked chicken and vegetables. Stir the r blocks into the sauce until they dissolve and bring the whole pot up to a boil. Let it simmer for about 5 minutes after about 5 minutes your cut D should look something like this. Scoop it up next to a bed of white rice and you've got yourself a delicious meal.
A variation of K ice is CED ice, which is always served with rice. This is the traditional presentation: you have rice and then you have your cut on the side, and it's always eaten with a spoon. Some of you may know there's a cute version as well, and if you haven't seen my Pano onig kit, I'll put a link down below and you can go see how I made this.
The idea behind CED ice is to represent that the little Bear is taking a bath or an onen and soaking in the bowl of cut. You could also do this with like split pea soup or stew, but the rice ball is quite heavy so he tends to sink. It's good if you have if you do it with stew or something, so you have something to bolster the little guy's head up otherwise it kind of just sinks.
FYI, CED ice makes really great leftovers. I like the flavors kind of are imparted better into the meat the next day. Yeah, I hope you guys enjoy that and hope you guys found that useful and I'll see you in my next video cheers bye passion fruit passion fruits
