iPad Pro M4 (2024) Unboxing & Review

The Unboxing of the 2024 iPad Pro: A New Era of Thinnness and Innovation

As we embark on this unboxing adventure, we're thrilled to be one of the first to get our hands on the brand new 2024 iPad Pro. This sleek device boasts a new tandem OLED display, powered by Apple's latest M4 chip, and features an innovative squeezable Apple Pencil. We can't wait to dive in and explore what makes this tablet so special.

The Packaging: A New Era of Minimalism

As we lift the lid off our packaging, we're immediately struck by how much thinner the box is compared to previous iPad Pro models. This isn't just a result of the new device itself, but also a reflection of Apple's ongoing efforts to minimize waste and reduce their environmental footprint. We find ourselves surrounded by an array of paperwork in various languages, which seems like a standard practice for many tech companies. However, what catches our attention is the complete absence of an Apple sticker on this particular model. It's surprising to note that we've never seen an unboxing without an Apple logo before – perhaps it's a new trend that Apple wants to introduce? Moving on, we're treated to a beautifully braided USB-C to USB-C cable in black, which is actually quite a nice touch.

The iPad Pro: A Masterclass in Design and Engineering

Our attention turns to the star of the show: the 2024 iPad Pro. As we lift it out of its box, we can see that it's indeed an impressive device. The 13-inch version we have on hand is even available in an 11-inch configuration, catering to a wider range of users. But what really takes our breath away is its remarkable thinness – just 5.1 millimeters thick! This achievement paves the way for Apple's "magic sheet of glass" vision, where the iPad Pro becomes almost indistinguishable from a single piece of glass. The credit goes to three key factors: the new tandem OLED display, the M4 chip, and its more efficient design. By streamlining these elements, Apple has managed to reduce the battery size while maintaining the same battery life as its predecessor.

The Battery: A Puzzle Worth Solving

One question that's been on everyone's mind is: how small can the battery get? We'll have to wait until someone takes this apart to find out. For now, we'll just have to admire Apple's ingenuity and dedication to innovation. The fact that they've managed to squeeze out even more efficiency from their M4 chip is a testament to their expertise in design and engineering.

The Apple Pencil: A Squeezable Game-Changer

But the real showstopper here is the new squeezable Apple Pencil. This ingenious feature allows users to get the most out of their creative experience, thanks to its unique design that responds to pressure and tilt. Whether you're an artist, writer, or simply someone who loves sketching in bed, this pencil promises to deliver unparalleled precision and control.

The Verdict: A New Era for Apple's iPads?

As we bring our unboxing adventure to a close, it's clear that the 2024 iPad Pro represents a significant milestone for Apple. By embracing innovation and pushing the boundaries of design and engineering, they've created something truly special. Whether you're a long-time fan or just considering joining the iPad Pro crew, this new generation promises to be an exciting ride.

But what do we think? Should Apple have included chargers with their latest release? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: en- The thinnestproduct Apple has ever madewith a new tandem OLED display, powered by the brand new M4 chipand a new squeezable Apple Pencil. This is the new 2024 iPad Pro,one of the first unboxingvideos with this in the world. So a thumbs up for yourboy would be appreciated.Let's get it unboxed andsee what it has to offer. Now right away you're going to noticethat we have a much thinner boxthan we normally would've had,and it's not just downto the thinner iPad.So initially you arepresented with the iPad,which we'll put to the side for a second. There's a pack with lotsof different paperworkfor all of the differentlanguages, but no Apple sticker.I think this is the first timeI've unboxed an Apple productwithout an Apple sticker.I'm not sure why this is.And then we have a nice braided USB type Cto USB type C cable. This one is black because Ihave the Space Black iPad Pro.But if you do get the silverversion of the iPad Pro,then you'll get a white cable. And that's it. No charger. So Apple started the trendof not including chargerswith their iPhones a few years ago.Now this trend is comingover onto the iPads.Let me know in the commentshow you feel about this.(gentle upbeat music)(paper crinkling)And here it is.Now this Space Black versionis definitely more of a darker gray.I've got a 13-inch version here, but it's also availablein an 11-inch version. And honestly guys, I can'temphasize how impressive it isthat it's just 5.1 millimeters thinand that makes it thethinnest Apple product everand it brings it closer to Apple's visionof having just a magic sheet of glass.I think we're getting very close here. Now Apple have managedto achieve this thinnessbecause of three main things. The new tandem OLED display, the M4 chip, which is now more efficient, and in turn allows for a smaller battery, but giving you the same battery lifeas the M2 version of the iPad Pro.How much smaller is the battery?Well, we're going to have to wait and seeuntil somebody opens this up.That's not going to be me.Now a question that a lotof people have understandablybeen asking is,\"How durable is this going to be?\"Because it's just so thin. No, Zach, you're not snappingmine. You can snap your own.Well, apple did say in their keynotethat this is just as durableas the previous generation.I am not going to be bending mine in half.Trust me, I know there'slots of people that will be.But realistically speaking,if you're going to try to bend any tabletthat's this sort of form factor, then it is going to snap in half.So don't do that. How durable is this going to be over time?Is it going to have a slight bend? We're going to have to wait and see,but I'm assuming that most peoplewill be using this 99%of the time in a case, maybe the Smart Folioor the Magic Keyboard. This new more compact design also meansthat this is quite a bit lighter comparedto the previous generationiPad Pro, over 100 grams.Let's now take a look at the display.Firstly, we have small uniform bezels. Now some people laugh at mewhen I say small bezels on an iPad,but you have to rememberthat this is a tablet,it's not a smartphone. With a tablet, you need somewhere to hold. And I think, physically, this is probably the smallestwe could go with the bezelswithout it being impractical for a tablet. This display still hasPro Motion technology. So 120 hertz, everything is very smooth. And it is an ultra retina XDR display, which is using OLED technology. And we have the same technologyfor both the 13 and 11-inch versions.Having OLED technology meanswe have super inky blacksand there's no blooming or light bleed. We have a much higher contrast ratio,so it's 2 million to one, whereas the 2022 iPadPro had a contrast ratioof around 1 million to one.But to increase the brightness, what Apple has done is actuallyuse two OLED panels togetherand they're calling this tandem OLED.So although the peak HDRbrightness is still 1600 nits, similar to what we had on theprevious generation iPad Pro,when it comes to SDR brightness, what you're going to beusing most of the time. Then we have 1000 nits offull screen brightness. We had 600 on the previous generation.Honestly speaking, I thinkthis is a beautiful display, probably the best displayon any tablet out there. And Apple have done a tremendous job, especially with the brightness. Now you can get this with thenano texture display optionthat is only available on the one terabyteor two terabyte models. You're going to have to pay extra for thatand this is going to reducereflections massivelyat the expense of nothaving as much high contrastand sharpness.Viewing angles will also not be as good, but honestly speaking,if you're using an iPad,you're probably going tobe using it by yourself.Somebody else isn't going to be seeing it.So I don't think viewingangles are that important. But if you are somebody whouses your iPad a lot outdoorsor in an office environmentwhere you're going to havelots of overhead lights, then this might be a great option for you.Quick reminder, if you'reenjoying this video so farand you want to see more likeit, then do consider subscribingand hitting that bell iconso you don't miss future coverage. Now let's talk about the performance. So this is Apple's first productthat's powered by the Apple M4 chip. And I'll be honest with you,I wasn't expecting them justto jump straight to the M4and to introduce it on the iPad.And this means that you haveup to a 1.5 times faster CPU,up to four times faster GPU,and up to 1.2 timesfaster memory bandwidthcompared to the M2version of the iPad Pro,which is already very, very fast. You've got the 16-coreApple neural engine. And models with either 256or 512 gigabytes of storagewill come with a 9-core CPUwith three performance coresand six efficiency coresand eight gigabytes of RAM.And models with one terabyteor two terabyte of storagewill come with a 10-core CPUwith four performance coresand six efficiency coresand 16 gigabytes of ram.Now one of the keyadvantages of the M4 chipis the power efficiency. So compared to the M2,you can have the same performanceusing just half the power, Apple claim. This means that you'llstill be able to getup to 10 hours of surfing theweb on wifi or watching video. And in my experience of usingthis over the past few days, the battery life has been very goodas it was on my previous iPad Pro.Now the M4 chip is an absolute beastand it's been able to handle anythingthat I've tried throwing at it.I was doing some testing in Final Cut Pro,editing some video and, using the scene removal tool,it removed the background instantly. And that raises the age old question,\"Who needs that much power on an iPad?\"Well, if you are somebody who needsthat much power on an iPad,you'll know who you are.Maybe you do some 3D workand rendering that youwant do straight on an iPadbecause of just how compact it is.And this of course still has iPad OS,which has come a long waysince it initially startedand was pretty much iOSfor a bigger screen. But for most people, including myself,it's not really a replacement for Mac OS.I mean we still don't havea default calculator app, which is super frustrating. And I was showing youthe scene removal toolon Final Cut Pro earlier, which works fine when youhave a very clear background. But something that's abit more complicated,I still had to go back on my MacBook Proto do the editing for.Now having said that, WWDCis just around the corner,so I am certain that we're goingto be seeing some new featuresfor iPad OS including lots of AI features. So I think that's somethingthat we're just goingto have to hold out for. Now, let's take a look at the cameras. So one big change that we've gotis that the 12 megapixelultra wide front camerais no longer in portraitorientation, it's now in landscape. Now this is something that I've mentionedon previous iPad reviews of minethat when I am takingvideo calls on my iPad,I never have it in portrait mode,I'm always going to have itin either the Smart Folio caseor the Magic Keyboard. And when it was in portrait orientation, the camera was off to the side, which really wasn't great. Now that I've seen the landscape mode,it's the perfect position for it.And we do have Center Stage,so if you do move around, the camera is going tobe able to track you.The rear facing camerahasn't changed too much. It's 12 megapixels, but we do have a new ISP,image signal processor, thanks to the M4.It supports 4K video upto 60 frames a second. We still have the LIDAR scanner, which is very useful if you are somebodywho can utilize that. But we no longer havethe ultra wide camera. This is something that Iactually missed in the keynote. Now I'm assuming this is downto making the device more compact overall. What we do have now is thisnew adaptive true tone flash, which makes scanningdocuments a lot easierand it's going to spread thelight a little bit more evenlyby covering shadows and things like that. Now, I generally just scandocuments and receiptsand things on my iPhone andjust using the flash thereor pretty much any othersmartphone does a decent job anywaybecause it removes most of the shadowsbecause the flash kind ofjust covers everything.Yes, the iPad does a better job of that, but would I have preferredan ultra wide camerainstead of this?I don't know. Would you? We've still got four-speaker audio. So we have great sound on the iPad Proand there are also fourstudio quality mics. There's one USBC portsand that does supportThunderbolt with USB 4,and we now have support forthe new Apple Pencil Pro.This looks just like the Apple Pencil 2.The only way you'll reallybe able to tell it apartis if you look at the logo at the top.Now the Apple Pencil Pro does comewith some really new and useful features, the first of which is Squeeze. You can just squeezeto bring up the toolbaranywhere on screen. This is so usefuland it's something that, onceyou get used to using it,you'll wonder how you got on without it.What's quite cool is that you can useSqueeze from a distanceas well. Check that out.I literally just discovered this right nowwhile I'm making this video. You also get some haptic feedback, which is really nice and intuitive. And the Apple Pencil Pronow also has a gyroscope, which means that you can now roll it.So Apple called thisfeature the Barrel Roll. And if you're somebody wholikes to do calligraphy, you're absolutely going to love this.I also really like the unlimited Undo,so you can just squeeze andthen press the undo buttonand then scroll throughthe different stagesof your drawing. And the Apple Pencil Pro nowalso has support for Find My,so you're going to be able tofind this bad boy if you lose it.And I'm sure pretty much everybodythat owns an Apple Pencil hasmisplaced it at some point.99% of the time it's goingto be in between your sofa. Now a few things about the Apple Pencil.Firstly, the Apple PencilPro is only going to workwith the new M4 iPad Prosor the new 2024 iPad Airs. It's not going to workwith the previous versions. Now what about if youhave an Apple Pencil 2and you're thinking,\"I'm going to upgrade,\"Squeeze feature is absolutelygreat, I'd love it,but hey, I don't want tospend another 130 pounds.Well, unfortunately the ApplePencil 2 is not compatiblewith the new iPad Pros.Apparently, this is becauseof how the charging mechanism worksas this can now snap ontothis very thin frame,it's been designed differently. And because of that,if you do have a USB type C Apple Pencil, that will work with the newiPad Pro or the new iPad Airs. Now along with the new iPad Pro,we have a brand new MagicKeyboard which this can snap onto. The keys have one millimeterof travel. They're backlit. We now have a functionrow, which is super useful. And we now have a new glass track pad, which is larger and alsohas haptic feedback, which is really nice. And we still have USBCpass through charging, although the border of it is much slimmerbecause the new MagicKeyboard is more compactcompared to the 2022 version. It weighs a little bit less.Apple doesn't really disclosehow much the Magic Keyboardsweigh for the iPads.I've tried to look for these everywhere,so I just put these on a scale myself. And the new Magic Keyboardis around 30 grams lightercompared to the previous generation. Now, my argument has always beenmy Pro along with the Magic Keyboard,if it weighs more than the MacBook Air,then personally speaking, based on my usage,I would much rather havethat full Mac OS experienceon the MacBook Air comparedto limiting that on iPad OSon the iPad Pro.Now, yes, I know youget a lot more featureson the iPad Pro which are unique to it.The display is better, you can detach it from the Magic Keyboard, you also have support for thepen, et cetera, et cetera. But I'm just talkingabout the compact factor. So I went ahead andweighed the new iPad Prowith the new Magic Keyboardand it weighs just around 1.25 kg.The MacBook Air weighs 1.24 kg.Now, this I don't think is a coincidence.I think Apple really did try to make thisas similar as possible. So now if you were in that dilemma, should you get a MacBook Airinstead of the iPad Prowith the Magic Keyboard, this might make yourdecision a little bit easierbecause now they weighjust about the same. Now that aside, I stillthink the Magic Keyboardis an excellent piece of technology. It's amazing how the iPadlooks like it's floating, but it is still top heavy. So although on a flat surface like this,it's going to be absolutely fine,if you are using it in bed onyour lap or maybe on a pillow, then I have found itstill does lean backwards. The other thing about the Magic Keyboardis that it's still pricey. This new Magic Keyboard ispriced that around 350 pounds. That's a lot of money for a keyboardregardless of how magic it is.Guess what else you canget for 350 pounds or $350.A fully fledged iPad?Yes, the iPad 10thgeneration is now 350 pounds. So when you put that into perspective,I do think that the MagicKeyboard is very priceyas good as it is.The 11-inch version is around 300 pounds. Now another thing aboutthis new Magic Keyboardis that it's only compatiblewith the new iPad Pros. It's not compatible with previousgenerations of the iPads. Now, I guess this is understandablebecause obviously we havea much thinner iPad nowcompared to the previous generation. However, the previousgeneration Magic Keyboardis compatible with the new2024 iPad Air if that helps. Now before we conclude, let'stake a look at the price. The good news is thatall of the new iPad Prosnow start with double the storage,256 gigabytes instead of 128 gigabytes. For the 130-inch version,if we compare thelike-for-like models, the 256,in the US for the 13-inchversion of the iPad Pro,you're going to be paying around $100 morecompared to what the previousgeneration started at.But in the UK, you're actuallygoing to be paying less, around 70 pounds comparedto what the 256 versionof the 2022 iPad Pro started at.Now this is probably down to the economyand the currency conversionrates and all sorts, but it is good for UK customers.Usually we get the short end of the straw. And if you want the cellular version, then you are going to haveto pay around 200 poundsor $200 more. Now, I will leave someof the latest offersfor the new iPad Pros downin the description below. So do check out those affiliate links. And to conclude, who is the iPad Pro for?Now if you're somebody whouses your iPad primarilyfor just doodling or watching movieswhen you are sat in bed or in a plane, then I would say you're better off goingfor the 13-inch iPad Air.It's around 500 pounds cheapercompared to the 13-inch iPad Pro,and it still has support forthe new Apple Pencil Pro 2.But if you are after the mostpowerful iPad you can buy, then the iPad Pro is it,with it's M4 chip and itsimpossibly thin design. Will you be able to useit to its full capacity?I personally don't know anybodythat will be able to usethis to its full capacity. But then again, thatmakes it future-proof.Most people that I know who have an iPaduse it for at least threeto four years, maybe longer.I think it's going to bevery interesting to seewhat new software featureswe get on iPad OS at WWDC.If you want to see coverage from that, then be sure to subscribeand hit that bell iconso you don't miss it.What do you guys think of the iPad Pro?Will you be buying one?Drop me a comment below.Let me know your thoughts.I hope you enjoyed thisvideo and found it useful. If you did, once again, dosmash that Like button for me.It really helps with the algorithm. Thanks watching. Thisis Saf on SuperSaf TV.And I'll see you next time.\n"
