How to Update to iOS 14 - Tips Before Installing!

**How to Update to iOS 14: A Step-by-Step Guide**

Updating to iOS 14 can seem like a daunting task, but with the right guidance, anyone can do it. In this article, we will walk you through the process of updating to iOS 14 and provide some valuable tips to make sure your device is compatible and that you have enough storage space.

**Managing iCloud Storage**

The first step in preparing for an iOS update is to manage your iCloud storage. Go to Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud, and then tap on "Manage Storage." Here, you can see how much storage space is being used by your iCloud backups. You can also delete old backups to free up some of your iCloud storage space. This is especially important if you're planning to update to iOS 14, as you'll need enough storage space to download and install the update.

For example, in my case, I have 59 gigabytes of iCloud storage taken up by old backups. Deleting these backups would not only free up some space but also ensure that I'm using my iCloud storage efficiently. You can see how much storage space is used by your iCloud backups and delete any unnecessary ones to free up space.

**Checking Device Storage Space**

Before you start the update process, it's essential to check if you have enough storage space on your device. Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage, and make sure that you have at least 8-10 gigabytes of available space. If not, consider deleting some applications or offloading them to free up space.

For example, I don't play PUBG very much, so I can just delete the application and save myself almost three gigabytes of space. This is especially important if you're using a 32 or 64-gigabyte device like I am, as your storage space will be halfway full at best. Go into Settings > General > iPhone Storage, and make sure you have enough space before installing the update.

**Backing Up Your Data**

Before updating to iOS 14, it's crucial to back up your data via iCloud. This is the safest way to ensure that all your files are preserved in case something goes wrong during the update process. Go to Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud, and tap on "iCloud Backup" to enable backup. Make sure you have a stable internet connection, as this can take some time.

If you want to be extra safe, consider backing up your data physically using iTunes. This is especially important if you're worried about losing any critical files during the update process.

**Updating to iOS 14**

Now that you've managed your iCloud storage and checked your device storage space, it's time to start the update process. Go to Settings > General > Software Update, and tap on "Download and Install" next to iOS 14. You'll be prompted to enter your Apple ID password, so make sure you have it handy.

Before starting the update process, consider connecting your device to a power source to avoid any interruptions during the process. The update process can take around 10-16 minutes, depending on your Wi-Fi speeds.

**Installing iOS 14**

Once you've started the update process, tap on "Install Now" and follow the prompts to complete the installation. After a few minutes, your device will reboot, and you'll see that it has successfully updated to iOS 14.
