The Unboxing of 2018 iPhone Prototypes: A Closer Look at the Designs and Features
Kind and captions are set to display for our video, but now let's take a closer look at what's inside these boxes. We have the 2018 iPhone prototypes, models, dummies - whatever you want to call them. These are basically based on the final designs of the new iPhones and are usually used by case manufacturers to get their cases ready in time for the launch of the iPhone.
As we open up the box, we can see that the iPhone X Plus or the iPhone XS Plus is huge due to its 6.5-inch display. This is not all, as we also have a 6.1-inch budget iPhone inside this box, which has a bit more plastic around it. The important thing to note here is that this phone will be coming in at around $700.
In addition to these two models, there is also an incremental update to the iPhone X, which will have the same size as the current iPhone X with a 5.8-inch display and potentially a new color. However, it's worth noting that this update won't differ in terms of physical size and design. We'll take a closer look at each of these models and compare them for size to the iPhone X.
Let's start by removing the plastic from the box and taking a closer look at the current iPhone X. As we can see, the Plus version is much bigger than the current model, and the Lite version is just slightly bigger compared to the iPhone X. The Plus model also has dual cameras, which will have the same camera setup as the incremental update of the iPhone X. On the other hand, the Lite version only has a single camera to meet that $700 price point.
As we move on to the front, you'll notice that notches are present on all models, and the notch is here to stay on the iPhone. We also have small bezels around the sides, which is especially great to see on the budget iPhone. However, there's a catch - the Lite version is going to have a 6.1-inch LCD display instead of an OLED display. OLED displays are generally better overall, with deeper blacks, a better contrast ratio, and more vibrant colors.
It's also rumored that the Lite version will not have 3D Touch, while the larger iPhones will have Face ID generation two, which is faster and more accurate. Looking around these models, button placements are exactly the same as we had previously, so we've got the power button on the right-hand side, volume buttons on the left-hand side, and a mute switch. Nothing is on top or at the bottom.
We also have the Lightning port with two grills - one of which is a speaker and the other is a mic. Of course, these will be having stereo speakers, so there'll be one in the earpiece and one bottom-firing. If you do a quick size comparison of the iPhone X Plus to something like the iPhone 7 Plus or even the 8 Plus, you'll notice that it's pretty much exactly the same size.
This is very impressive, considering the iPhone 7 and 8 Plus are smaller devices. The larger display, as well as the bigger-sized device means a bigger battery, so the iPhone X Plus is likely to have a much bigger battery compared to the iPhone X. However, one downside for the iPhone X Plus is that it's very likely to cross that $1000 price point, with rumors suggesting it's probably coming in at around $1100 potentially.
The reason behind this higher price point is that the Plus model of the iPhone is usually around $100 more compared to the regular version of the iPhone. So there we have it, guys - our very first hands-on look at the models of the new 2018 iPhones. We believe this is a thumbs up for 4K content, so let's make sure to give that a nod.
Now it's your turn to share your thoughts on these new iPhones! Are you going to be picking any of these up? Definitely drop us a comment below and let us know. We're likely to be expecting the official announcement of these in September some time. "WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: en- Now look at that. What's up guys?Saf here on SuperSaf TV.Today I believe we havea bit of an exclusive.Inside these boxes here, wehave the 2018 iPhone prototypes, models, dummies, whateveryou want to call them. They're basically basedon the final designsof the new iPhones andthey're usually usedby case manufacturers and thingsin order to be able to get the cases readyin time for the launch of the iPhone. We've got them here.Let's go ahead and get them unboxed. All right.Obviously not a fancy box like you all getfor the new iPhone. Now look at that. This is the iPhone X Plusor the iPhone XS Plus, not sure what it's goingto be called but it is hugeand that's because ithas a 6.5 inch display. But that's not all,we also have this boxhere, which has inside,oh this has a bit more plasticaround it, that's cool. This is the 6.1 inch budget iPhone. Now once again, we're not surewhat this one's going to be called,it might be called the iPhone9, maybe the iPhone X Lite, the important thing is, of course,is that it's going to becoming in at around $700.Now in addition to these two, there is also going tobe the incremental updateto the iPhone X which isgoing to be the same sizewith the 5.8 inch displayand potentially a new color, but that's not going to be any differentin terms of the physical size and design. So we're going to look at theseand then we'll also comparethem for size to the iPhone X.Right, let's get theplastic off first here.So in the middle, we'vegot the current iPhone X,and you can see that the Plusversion is now much bigger, and the Lite versionis just slightly biggercompared to the iPhone X.Now you can also see herethat we've got dualcameras on the Plus modeland that's because itwill have the same camerasthat we have on the incrementalupdate of the iPhone X,but on the iPhone Lite,we have a single camera, and that is to meet that $700 price point,so you're not going tobe having dual camerason the cheaper version. Now all three will a have aglass back as we can see herebut the Plus model willhave a stainless steel framelike we've got on the iPhone X.The Lite version is goingto have an aluminum frame. Now moving over on to the front, you'll notice that we havenotches on all models, and the notch is hereto stay on the iPhone, and then we've got the smallbezels around the sides. Now this is especially greatto see on the budget iPhone,I know a few of you guys aregoing to go crazy in the commentswhen I'm calling a $700 device budget, but in the scheme of the lineup,it is going to be the budget device. However there's a catch. The Lite version isgoing to have a 6.1 inchLCD display, not OLED display. Now OLED displays aregenerally better overall, they're definitely more expensive, they have deeper blacks,a better contrast ratio,as well as more vibrant colors.Once again, this is a compromisethat's going to be made on theLite version of the iPhone. It's also rumored that there'sgoing to be no 3D Touchon the Lite version of the iPhoneand that we're going tohave Face ID generation one, whereas the larger iPhones willhave Face ID generation two, which is going to befaster and more accurate. Now looking around these models, button placements are exactly the samelike we had previously,so we've got the power buttonon the right hand side,we've got the volume buttonson the left hand side,as well as the mute switch.Nothing on the top and at the bottom. We've got the Lightningport with two grills, one of these is a speakerand the other is a mic.Of course, these are goingto be having stereo speakers,so there'll be one in theearpiece, and one bottom-firing.Now if you do a quick sizecomparison of the iPhone X Plusto something like the iPhone7 Plus or even the 8 Plus, you'll notice that it's prettymuch exactly the same size.It is definitely the samesize in terms of the length, but it does seem to be slightly narrower. Now this is very impressive of course, and that is becausethe iPhone 7 and 8 Plusboth have a 5.5 inch displaybut the new iPhone X Plus isgoing to have a 6.5 inch display,so you're going to begetting much more real estatein a very similar sized body. And if you are somebodythat is coming from, say an iPhone 8 Plus or an iPhone 7 Plus, then this will be a great upgradeand it's going to be asize that you're used to.Now of course, a bigger display,as well as a bigger sizeddevice means a bigger battery. So the iPhone X Plus is likelyto have a much bigger batterycompared to the iPhone X.Of course, we all like bigger batterieswith more battery life. Now one downside for the iPhone X Plusis that it's very likely tocross that $1000 price point.Rumors are suggesting thatit's probably coming inat around $1100 potentiallyand that's based on thefact that the Plus modelof the iPhone is usually around $100 morecompared to the regularversion of the iPhone. So there we have it guys, our very first hands-on,the models of the new 2018 iPhones.I believe this is a veryfirst especially in 4K,so a thumbs up for thatwould be appreciated. What do you guys thinkof these new iPhones? Are you going to bepicking any of these up?Definitely drop me a commentbelow and let me know. We're likely to be expectingthe official announcementof these in September some time.Of course, as soon as theyare announced and released,we'll be having lots of hands-on coveragehere on the
