**The KD and Kraft Macaroni and Cheese Taste Tests**
As I sat down to taste-test my favorite comfort food, macaroni and cheese from KD and Kraft, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement. But what made this experience even more interesting was the addition of "flavor boost" options to take my mac and cheese to the next level.
I began by trying out the poutine flavor option. This powder had kind of a gray cast to it and added little brown flecks to my macaroni and cheese. The first taste was...interesting, with a meaty, bouillon-y MSG quality that definitely gave me a savory flavor profile. I could also detect a hint of sweetness and what tasted like cheesy goodness. While it didn't exactly taste like poutine, I appreciated the added complexity of flavors and how well it complemented the creaminess of my macaroni and cheese.
Next up was the chicken wing flavor option. This one definitely had kind of a sweet and savory quality to it, with a meaty flavor that was reminiscent of buffalo wings. However, as much as I enjoyed this flavor combination, I couldn't help but feel like something was missing - namely, the key element of potato french fries that typically come with poutine. Despite this, I found myself enjoying the overall taste experience more than expected.
But the real treat came when I tried the ghost pepper option. This chili powder had a very distinct smell, similar to what I'd imagine from one of the hottest chilies on earth. When I took a bite, I was surprised to find that it wasn't as overwhelmingly spicy as I'd anticipated. In fact, it was quite manageable and even enjoyable, with a nice balance of chili flavor without overwhelming my taste buds.
The next flavor boost option I tried was butter chicken. This powder had kind of a yellowish color and blended in seamlessly with the pasta. The first bite was like a revelation - all I could taste were rich, complex spice flavors reminiscent of Indian cuisine. Cumin and garam masala were definitely at play here, but what really surprised me was how well these spices complemented my macaroni and cheese.
Finally, I had the buffalo wing flavor option to round out my tasting experience. This powder added a nice tanginess to my macaroni and cheese that elevated it from a basic comfort food to something truly enjoyable. While not as bold or complex as some of the other options, this flavor combination still managed to surprise me with its depth and balance.
As I finished up my taste-testing adventure, I couldn't help but feel grateful for the variety of flavors I got to experience. Whether you're a die-hard macaroni and cheese fan like myself or just looking to spice things up, these "flavor boost" options are definitely worth trying out. And if you're feeling adventurous (and possibly regretful), be sure to check out some of my other spicy challenge videos.
**The Verdict**
In the end, it was hard to pick a clear winner among the various flavor boost options I tried. While they each brought something unique and exciting to the table, I think what really set them apart was how well they complemented (or sometimes even elevated) my basic macaroni and cheese experience.
If I'm being completely honest, there were moments when I felt like these flavors took things out of the realm of comfort food and into uncharted territory. But in a good way! And who knows - maybe that's exactly what we all need from our macaroni and cheese: a little bit of excitement and adventure.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: en(light upbeat music)- Greetings, my beautifullovelies, it's Emmy. How are you? It's great to see you.And welcome back to anothertaste test/little comparison.Today, I'm going to be comparingKraft Macaroni and Cheesewith Kraft KD.Big thanks to Rob andCharlie who sent me the KDalong with some other specialties --I'll show you those in a second. But did you know thatthere was a difference? So here in the U.S., we haveKraft Macaroni and Cheese.A lot of children knowwhat this is, adults also. And on the left hand here --or is that your right side? --on this side, I have a Kraft KD,as it's known, or Kraft Dinner. This is sold in Canada andit's known as KD for short. And I'm gonna be comparing these twoto see if there's any difference in taste.Initially, I thought theywould be very much the same, but apparently they are not.Canadians say KD is better. And Americans, of course sayKraft Mac and Cheese is better. So I have to say, as a little disclaimer,I did not grow up eatingeither one of these.I think I've had macaroniand cheese from the boxjust a handful of times.I think the last time Ihad Kraft Mac and Cheesewas when I tested a mac and cheese maker.I'll put a link down below tothat video if you missed it.So, I am certainly not an expert. So that's why I really want to do:a little taste test comparison. But the real task at hand, besides comparing these two,is to taste these. And these are KD boosts. These are flavor packetsthat you add to your KDmac and cheese already, andit will change the flavor,of course, boost them. Some of these sound kind of interesting, for example, this one. This is cotton candy.Cotton candy. (chuckles)I think they did have thisflavor here in the U.S.I think it was aValentine's Day promotion.I think you could haveentered to win this flavor, but besides that, it's anexclusive flavor to Canada. So thanks again, Rob andCharlie for sending me this. This one is poutine, which is the famous french frieswith gravy and cheese curds. We have butter chicken.I'm very excited about that flavor. That sounds delicious.I love butter chicken.Jalapeno.Ghost pepper and buffalo chicken wing. So, we have six flavorsbesides the originaljust cheese flavor. So the first thing I'm gonna dois just do a simple taste testbetween the KD and Kraftmacaroni and cheese. One thing I do notice,in terms of box size, the KD version is a little bit larger. It's 225 grams, versus 206 grams.Apparently macaroni andcheese Kraft Dinner,as this was called, was invented in 1937.It was brought to Canada wherethis has become a staple.I think every Canadian childis at least familiar with KD,if not in love with KD,from my understanding. So KD is more popular inCanada than in the U.S. by 55%,from what I've read.Incredible, right? So let's see what it's all about. So I've got my water boiling behind me.That's the kind of buzz that you can hear, and let's make ourselvessome mac and cheese.Another thing I noticedupon reading the directions,is that both require boilinglike any kind of pasta, but the American version callsfor four tablespoons of margarineand a half a cup of milk, while the Canadian version asks forone tablespoon of margarineand the third of a cup of milk.So both less milk and less margarine.I'm gonna be using butter todaybecause I do not havemargarine and I prefer butter. So more fat, more milk, butI've heard this tastes creamier. All right, let's compare the pasta. So look at this.KD has long pasta.Tubes, but not elbows. There's the sauce packet. While American macaroniand cheese are elbows, rather than being straight tubes.Sauce packet.Has that always been the case?Somehow I thought thatAmericans also were tubesand not elbows.Like I said, I'm no expertchime in, in the comments below.Teach me, educate me about these. All right, so both ofthese require boilingand lots of water forabout six or seven minutes. So I'm gonna go ahead and do that. And then we will add thecheese and do our little,(clicks teeth)Okay, see you in a little bit.(playful music)All right, lovelies, I am back.It has been six minutessince I boiled these pastas. Now it's time to drain.Drain, drain drain.Okay, so this is American mac and cheese, and this is KD.Back into the pot.Okay.Now for KD, only one tablespoon of butterand one-third of a cup of milk.Voop.And one packet of cheese mix.Pretty hefty.Ooh, look at that.Electric orange color. That looks familiar.American.Four tablespoons, let me make sure.Yes.Four tablespoons.Holy cow, holy cow.And a half cup of milk. And the cheese packet. This does not seem as thick and as big.So maybe that's the big difference, the amount of cheese packet.I don't know.Pretty electric orange in color, actually slightly less orange.See that?A little more yellow.Interesting, okay. And then we just mix this allup until our butter is meltedand our cheese powder is incorporated. And there we have it.Macaroni and cheese.Yes.There definitely seems to bemore powder to pasta ratioin the Canadian version.I like the fact that thepastas are different. It's gonna be a little bitmore easier to distinguishduring the taste test.Okay.So I'm gonna melt this completelyand we'll dole this up.Alrighty, my lovelies. So now that the powder has absorbedall that milk and butter,I am a noticing somedifferences in consistency. So here's the American one.And look at the sauce consistency. It's thicker and kind of gooier. You can even hear the difference.See how it's just kind of thick and shiny? And here's the Canadian one. It's a little looser in consistency.See that?So that could simplyjust be to the bindersthey put in there, any kind of thickeners, but the noodles kind ofslip a little bit more. And it's not as kind of sticky. Not sticky, but like thick. It's not as thick.Definitely not as thick as the American,a little bit looser, but this is advertised. The American one is advertisedas thick and creamy. And it is look at that. It's definitely thicker. It also has four timesthe amount of butterand a little bit more milk.Alrighty, let's give this a taste. Now I should have as a disclaimer,I'm not a huge fan of mac and cheese.I just, I know a lot of peoplesay I should try it homemade, but I love cheese, but I don't know somethingabout cheese and bread,I really love, but just cheese, too much cheese is a bit much for me.So that aside, I'm still gonna tryto give you my bestthoughts and descriptionsof these pastas.Okay, let's try the KD first, because this is a KD video. So here's the KD bite. Here we go.Itadakimasu.Mm.That's exactly how I rememberKraft mac and cheese tasting.Although this to me, tastesa little bit tangier. The pasta's tender, a little bit squeaky. It tastes like cheesepowder, a little bit buttery. And there's a nice kindof slippery mouthfeelin the pasta in your mouth.Yeah, not bad.All right, let's give theAmerican version a taste. Now, I really don't rememberthe pasta looking like this.I always thought they werestraight, just like the KD.I don't remember thembeing elbows like that.Alrighty, let's give him a taste. Here we go.Hmm.The American pasta has more bite to it.It feels thicker.A little bit more aldente, not as kind of soft. They, the walls of thepasta seemed to be thickerin the American version. So it has more of a bite toit, not as soft and tender. The sauce feels creamier in your mouth, just thicker and creamier and cheesier, while the Canadianversion's slightly tangy.Right.Mhmm.And it doesn't taste as rich, which isn't surprising to me,because this one, the American version, contains four times the amount of butter. Both of them seem to havethe equal amount of salt.Of the two, I think Iprefer the American version. It just seems to havemore of a cheesier flavorand just tastes richer.Mhmm.I also like that the pasta is not as soft, has a little bit more substance to it.All right. So, now we've compared theKD versus mac and cheese. Now let's go ahead andtaste the boost flavors.Cannot wait to do that.Okay, the first flavorI'm gonna try is this one. This is the cotton candy. This is the most bizarreflavor, I think, of the bunch.Cotton candy.Sweets, right? So take some of that, add that to our bowl.I don't want to add too muchbecause it will be hard to stir. There we go.And now, we're supposedto add this entire packetto one box of KD, but it's just me here,so I'm just gonna add some of this. But stir it well.Oh, it smells like candy.A little bit like Kool-Aid.Sweet.MhmmVanilla-ed a little bit.Wow, look at that. So, we're just gonnashake that right on top.It looks like I just putKool-Aid in my mac and cheese.Huh.And it is turning everythinga very alarming pink.Very alarming pink. And now it's smelling very sweet.Wow.It's a hot pink color.Wow.Somehow I wasn't imagining itto be such a hot pink color, because when I think of cotton candy,I think more of a pastel pink, but that is not pastel pink.Holy smokes.Look at that.Wowzers.Uh-huh.Uh-huh.Alrighty.Let's give cotton candy a taste. Here we go.One big bite.Alrighty, here we go.Cotton candy.Itadakimasu!Hmm.It's actually not as badas I thought it would be.It's sweet. So I think kids would really like this. It's very sweet. But not so sweet that it's distractingto the point that itdoesn't taste like KD,you still taste the butter. You still taste the cheese. It's just sweet with a light kind of,with a light, slightlycaramely vanilla flavor to it.Pretty light in terms of flavor. It's mostly about thesweetness for this one.Mhmm.And the color.Yeah.Not terrible at all.I think kids wouldactually really like this. This could be potentially quite dangerousbecause it's so sweet and it has thisdebatable, attractive color to it.Yeah, there you go.Cotton candy.Does it taste like cotton candy though? No.It tastes like lots ofsugar with KD dinnerand a touch of vanilla essence.Yeah, not cotton candy, but not horrendous.Alrighty, let's taste another one.Next, I'm gonna try jalapeno. So it looks like it doesn'tchange the color of KD,which is good.I didn't want it to begreen or maybe it is green. It shows green sprinkles. It's gonna be green?Oh boy, let's see.Ooh, it smells great. It smells like jalapenoflavored chips, which I love.Alrighty, here we go.Ready?Okay, good.Oh, I thought it was gonna be white, but it looks like it has alittle green flecks in it.You see that?Okay.Grab another spoon.Give that a stir. There's a scoop of the jalapeno.Hmm.All right.Let's give that a go.Do you think it'll be hot?Do you think it'll be spicy?I don't know.Jalapeno, here we go.Itadakimasu.Hmm.That surprisingly has a littleextra sweetness to it too.And it's got a little bit of texture.Like dried jalapeno bits, and yes, it is spicy.Pleasantly so.Not too spicy. And the flavor, it's justlike the jalapeno flavorthat you get in potato chips.Really nice kind of chili flavor to it.Is it an improvement?Yeah, I would say so.I am a lover of heat, though. So I like heat with my food.So yeah, I think I approveof the jalapeno flavor boost, especially if you like thatkind of jalapeno flavor.Yeah.They added some sugar to it too, I think.I have a big wad of flavor on my spoon. So I want to get that off.All right, here we go.Let's try that again.Mhmm.I think I just find the addition of sugara little surprising andperhaps unnecessary, but yeah.Jalapeno, not bad.So far, these KD boostflavors, not too shabby.Okay.Next let's try Buffalo wing. Now, I think I've had buffalo wings, maybe a handful of times inmy life and they're fine.I really like crisp chickenwings, pretty simply adorn. And buffalo wings aren'tsomething I eat a lot of.I'm familiar with the saucethat has a lot of butterand usually kind of likea Frank's red hot saucecombined together. It's not a bad combination.I just find it really messy, but eating chickenwings is often the case, but let's try that one.So, there's that.It looks actually prettymuch like the original. Not too much difference in terms of color, but definitely a difference in the smell.I imagine kids would have ahard time with some of these, well, the jalapenobecause of the heat, maybeand then this one smells very tangy.I'm not sure if kids would be to attractedto that vinegary smell.Alrighty, here we go.Buffalo chicken wings.Hmm.Not bad.Definitely has some like garlic in thereand that vinegar makes ittaste a little bit moresophisticated and notnecessarily sophisticated, but just a little bit more adult.I like the addition of the vinegar. The vinegar doesn't add so much of a tang, but more of a smell. An aroma, I should say. It's not spicy, but itstill remains creamylike mac and cheese, but it's beginning not to tasteso much like mac and cheese, but some other kind of dish, because you've got theaddition of that garlicand vinegar in there. Not bad.Not something I wouldnecessarily go for, but not bad.Would I know if somebody gave this to me,would I be able to identifythis as buffalo wingsif someone were to give it to me?I don't think so, but, still, not horrendous either. Not bad, but not somethingI would want again.Okay, next we're going to try poutine. This is a classic Canadiandish of french friescovered with brown gravy and cheese curds.I've never actually had poutine before.Ooh.That smells interesting.Smells a little bit sweetand I can't quite place it.Kind of meaty, bouillon-y.Hmm, interesting. So, add that powder to here. This powder has kind of a gray cast to it.All right.Poutine.Kind of got little brown flecks in it.Alrighty, let's give this one a taste. Here we go.That one too, has some sugar in it.Tastes like gravy. Not exactly delicious.Definitely has kind of a meatybouillon-y MSG quality to it.Kind of sweet and savory.Definitely tastes of gravy.Mhmm.With kind of a cheesy, withlike a cheesy sweetness to it.Not exactly delicious, but I liked that one morethan the chicken wing.Hmm.Does it taste like poutine?Probably not. You're missing the keyelement of, you know, potato french fries, butit tastes like gravy.Mhmm.Next, we're going to try this one.And this is ghost pepper. Now, ghost pepper, for those of you thatdon't know what that is,is one of the hottest chilies. And Rob says that you canonly order this online. So I imagine there mightbe some liability issue?I don't know.Because it's that hot.I'm not gonna sniff this toomuch because I don't wanna, yep, definitely smells of chili. All right.Let's give that a go.I'm curious to see howhot this is going to be.I've tasted plenty of hot things. And if you want to see me suffer,I'll put a link down below to the playlistof my spicy challenges.Okay, here we go.Ghost, ghost pepper.Okay.Pretty good chili flavor.Nice and chilied, which is nice, because oftentimes when it comes to thesereally spicy chilies, you don't really taste the chili so much,as just feel the burn. And this is actually very manageable.Mhmm.I would say on the scale ofthings, like a cayenne heat,a nice clean, bright, chile heat, but it still allows you toeat your food and enjoy it.And we can still have some taste budsthat you can taste the cheese in there. But I actually like that that's the case.So if you're looking fora spicy mac and cheese,I think this might be the one for you. This is the one thatI'm most excited about. And this one is butter chicken.I think that would be a lovely combinationof macaroni and cheese and butter chicken.Yummy.Mm, it smells lovely.I can smell the cumin in there. So we're gonna shake that on here.Powder's kind of a yellowish color.Blends in with the pasta.Okay, another spoon.Okay.Butter chicken.Alrighty, here we go.I wouldn't say it tastesexactly like butter chicken, but immediately the firstthing I notice againis the additional sweetness. It's sweet. Not as sweet as the cottoncandy, but significantly,I feel like all of them havea little added sugar to them.Maybe not the buffalo chicken wing.I didn't notice it so much in that one,but I noticed a sweetness, but there's a light, there's a nice complexityof flavors going on here.Lots of spices.Mhmm.I don't necessarilytaste the chicken part, but I like the cumin in there. What else do I taste?Maybe a hint of garam masala.Yeah, this one is fun.But with this one I feellike it takes it outof the realm of mac and cheese, because it's more about the spice flavorsrather than the mac and cheese.Although the creaminess fromthe macaroni and cheese,I think really doescompliment these flavors.Mhmm.Mhmm.I like this one.A little bit of tang in there too.Alrighty, my lovelies there you have it.That's the KD and Kraftmacaroni and cheese taste tests, including all the flavor boost flavors. The cotton candy was the oneI was most intrigued about. That actually wasn't half bad.The others are fine.I do like the butter chicken one though.I thought that was actuallysomething I would try again. And in my opinion, I thinkis a welcome additionto just the KD Dinner. This is based purelyon my subjective taste. If you are a mac and cheese lover, you may have a completelydifferent opinion on these, but it was super fun totaste all the flavorsand big thanks again to Rob and Charliefor sending them to me.And I hope you've enjoyed that one.I hope you learned something. Please share this video with your friends.Follow me on socialmedia, like this video, subscribe and I shallsee you in the next
