**Creating a Custom Watch Face for Your Apple Watch**
In this tutorial, we will explore how to create a custom watch face for your Apple Watch using Photoshop and then add it to your device. The watch face we will be creating is based on the "OVO" design, which was featured in one of our previous videos.
**Measuring and Scaling the Resolution**
To start, we need to measure and scale the resolution of the Apple Watch screen. To do this, we took a screenshot of an empty time photo watch face on our device and then opened it in Photoshop. We measured the dimensions of the screen, which were 3:9 by 1:170, and decided to triple those dimensions to create a high-quality watch face with more space to work with. By scaling up the resolution, we now have a larger canvas to work with.
**Designing the Watch Face**
Next, we started designing our watch face using Photoshop. We chose a simple icon of an hourglass, which is also a symbol for time, and placed it above the date on the screen. What makes this template special is that it allows you to see where you can place your logos and text, making it easier to design your custom watch face.
**Adding the Icon**
To add our icon to the watch face, we used the "move" tool with Shift pressed to scale it up and down until it was perfectly placed above the date. This allowed us to position the icon in a way that would be visible on the screen when you view the watch face. We also added some rulers to help us align the icon with the time.
**Adding a Black Background**
To complete our design, we added a black background to the template. This will ensure that when we add our custom watch face to our device, all that will be visible is the app itself, and not any distracting elements.
**Saving and Downloading the Template**
Once we had completed our design, we saved it as a PNG file and then downloaded it to our iPhone using Airdrop or another method. We then opened the Apple Watch app on our device and created a new face by clicking "Create Face" and selecting "Photo Face."
**Adding the Custom Watch Face**
Next, we clicked on the custom watch face we had just designed and added it to our device. We were able to browse through our photos to choose one that would work well with our design. Once we selected an image, we could customize the size and position of the photo to fit our watch face.
**Using the Custom Watch Face**
Finally, we were able to use our custom watch face on our Apple Watch device. We chose to keep the time at the bottom of the screen, which is a common feature on many watch faces. With this tutorial, we have shown that it is possible to create a custom watch face using Photoshop and add it to your device.
**Conclusion**
Creating a custom watch face for your Apple Watch is easier than you might think. By following these steps and using the right tools, you can create a unique and personalized watch face that reflects your style and preferences. The template we designed in this tutorial includes all the dimensions and measurements needed to make it easy to customize. We hope that this tutorial has been helpful and will inspire you to try creating your own custom watch face.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey it's Chris and a few weeks ago I made a video on the Apple watch I think it was unbelievably useful Apple watch apps number two and it featured briefly this really cool super ultra minimal watch base with an owl on it that I found on reddit and long story short a ton of people asked me about it where could they get it and how was it made well it turns out that the person who made that watch base saw the video reached out and said hey if you want to collaborate on showing people how they can get that watch base or make their own and I was like yeah so the guy that created that watch face his name is Calum and he's gonna walk you through his process which he did a great job of keeping short and sweet and to the point it's really simple anyone can do it and also created some templates so that you can make your own which I'm gonna link up down in the description before Campbell comes on I just want to say I spent some time and made my own ultra minimal watch base with logo and some other stuff which I'm gonna link up down below too so if I can do it you can do it here's Cal hey Chris thank you so much for having me on your channel today today I'm gonna be showing you how to create a custom watch face your Apple watch and I'm gonna be demonstrating how I created the ovo our watch face which was featured in one of your previous videos so I always thought that Apple were very strict on customization and everyone always wants third buy apps to create what face is busines possible so I saw that you can create a photo watch face until well what if I can create something a photo shop and then put it on the watch and you have a custom face so that's gonna show today so let's get started okay so first one easy to do it needs to work out the dimensions of the Apple watch need to know the resolution so why did was is I took a screenshot of on my Apple watch of just the blank time photo watch face why did then was I took it into Photoshop which you can see here I worked out the dimensions which were three top by three 90 and I wanted to create a high quality watch face so what I did was is I times that resolution by three giving me nine 36 by one 170 so once I knew them dimensions I I'm going to times up together so if I do three six by one 170 we now have a much lighter canvas to work with so I'm gonna do it I'm gonna blow this up the way to the size I've just created cool okay so now we have that so what I'm now gonna do is is I'm gonna choose the icon I want in this area so the reason that I wanted to do an hour's because I'm big fan of Drake and it's also quite a nice simple logo to put on your face so one window is is place it above the date now what I like about the template that I've made here is that you can see all this black space around it so you know where you can put your logos where you can put your text so I'm gonna do is I'm gonna press come on T and hold down shift and move it up and down so I can scale it and I'm gonna place it just above the date here so this was gonna like on your race so that's think the best part about the template that I'm really making is that whatever you see on here is william is saying when your watch which is really awesome so in the template i'm also going to be adding some of these rulers as well so you can see just where you need to put the icon that you want so i'm gonna line this up with the time down yeah yeah so right now this is where the icon is now why i'm gonna do also is i'm going to add a black background so when we unhide the screenshot all you have left is the app so this is what you're gonna be putting on your watch and this is what's going to be yeah on your wrist essentially so you can do any icon you want so this is the one i've chosen and the template will be in linked in the description I assume Chris gonna put that there so you can download it so yeah this is this is pretty much it so what we do now is I'm going to save it as a PNG I'm then gonna put it on to my iPhone whether that's through airdrop message email whichever way you want to and then we're gonna hop into the iPhone app and we're gonna put on a watch so let's go over there now okay so now you have your Apple watch face you've just designed onto your iPhone you now need to open the Apple watch app where you can create faces and you can change them make the way you want you then need to add a photo face so whether that's on your watch or on your phone you need to add a brand new photo face this will probably have synced album when you first click on it that will have like photos on your phone the way you undo is when you click custom choose photos you want to click the Apple watch face you just create which is the owl and that's pretty much it obviously if you want to have the time at the top you're going to have to redesign the face in itself but I usually like the watch face at the bottom this is the one that I've designed around but apart from that that is a that's pretty much it and yet hopefully that adds it up the customization to your Apple watch so yeah that's pretty much it I hope that helps some people and thanks Chris again for having me I general perhaps PTC Wow obviously very cool thank you Callum I'm sure a lot of people are gonna love you for putting this video together again all the links are down in the description including the original owl watch base in some extras in the template so go check it out and I'll catch you in the next video laterhey it's Chris and a few weeks ago I made a
