**The New Google+ Layout: A Mixed Bag**
I first have to find the gear icon and then look for the ability to send, so freaking intuitive I tell you what you know you guys thought that they had Facebook Envy no no no no no this white space clearly indicates that there's no Facebook Envy at all, uh going on here, uh I got to tell you I mean all all jokes aside yes I uh I could likely uh you know minimize my browser window minimize it uh but a lot of people won't and don't and really shouldn't have to this is just an insane amount of space that's currently being wasted not to say that there was less white space before it's just that Google managed the white space it had on Google+ better before this particular change, they've got a few bugs and Kinks that they need to work out, uh some nice things, uh you know came along with some of these things that are questionably nice including the ability to hide certain icons on the side so if you don't want to see games or photos or explore or anything you can drag the icons in and out on the the sidebar, uh so that would possibly indicate that there's more to come, uh from Google+.
**A Shift in Layout**
uh going to my profile page and uh I see how many I I'm afraid to zoom in because I don't have you know permission to show them their icons a million a million over a million people that's that's exactly where I'm just going to keep it, they've changed the way uh you can view who's plus one something as well as who shared it, uh comments seem to be just about as easy to track, uh icons have changed a bit to me it's it's just it's less easy for me to visually know where my eyes are supposed to go on a page that's probably my biggest frustration and I and you know me and if you watched the stream at live. pr.com you know I'm on Google+ frequently I mean I use it prolifically, uh almost as much as I do Facebook and I probably use Google+ more than I use Facebook, uh the challenge is a lot of the stuff if it's if it's if I'm not dealing with an insane amount of white space my eyes are having problems focusing in on something there's either white space in the wrong place or lines where I don't expect there to be lines and all this stuff starts to blur together, face Facebook when they rolled out the timeline I think did a fair job at separating each particular item it was clear that each one was a a separate item.
**Confusion with White Space**
I'm still trying to get used to this new layout, where I feel like there's too much white space. There are just a lot of empty spaces on my profile page that make it hard for me to visually follow what's going on. The original photo that I uploaded from Instagram is now flanked by these awkward bars that don't seem to serve any purpose. Profile images were larger and easier to view, but the new design seems to have lost some of its visual clarity. When hovering over a username, more information is shown, which is nice, but it's not enough to make up for the overall lack of cohesion in the layout.
**Mixed Reactions**
I know I shouldn't take it so personally, but I'm just trying to figure out what Google+ did wrong here. Some things seem to have worked better on other platforms. Facebook's timeline was easier to navigate, with clear separation between each item. But that's not exactly fair to Google+, which has always been a different beast from its competitors. I'll keep using it because I like the service and find it useful, but this new layout is definitely jarring.
**Animated GIFs Still Work**
One thing that did surprise me was that animated GIFs still work on the new design. That's a small consolation in an otherwise confusing experience. Overall, while there are some things that Google+ has done well, I'm not sure I'd say this is an overall improvement over the previous layout.
**Chagrin Over Profile Images**
The new profile images have also changed in ways that don't feel right to me. The original photo was just a simple square image from Instagram, but now it's flanked by these awkward bars. That doesn't make for a very attractive presentation. And while profile cards are supposed to show more information when you hover over a username, I'm still not convinced it's enough to make up for the overall design issues.
**A Question of Priorities**
I don't know what Google+ is trying to achieve with this new layout, but it feels like they're putting functionality before aesthetics. Some things that would be nice to see are some of the bugs and Kinks that they've got, uh some other things that are interesting, including the ability to hide certain icons on the side so if you don't want to see games or photos or explore or anything you can drag the icons in and out on the the sidebar.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enthank you for watching liking commenting sharing and subscribing right now so this is uh goog plus and I guess the plus now stands for Whit space uh I don't really know what I'm supposed to do with this here because nothing's happening there and you know even if I let's say go over here and sign out a chat the chat still stays there I don't know what what it's doing I have all you know what I can do I can this is what I can do I just you know leave Post-it notes so I can leave not right this actually works so I can Google+ will help me now uh keep tabs on things what else am I supposed to do with this white space isn't that insane look at that and see the Post-it notes can stay there in in the new Google+ everything is shoved to the left every well except for chat most everything sh did they forget to take a V8 uh no so here's what we're going to do we're going to send them feedback by going to the lower where' the send feedback link go where's the send feedback there's no send feed feedback link I can't send them feedback do they not want me to send them feedback if I go home home with feedback oh oh wait there's a gear icon now if I click that oh I see in order to send them feedback I first have to find the gear icon and then look for the ability to send so freaking intuitive I tell you what you know you guys thought that they had that's what I feel when when I look at this new uh Google+ uh layout this this this is really weird and then they also did this awkward thing where and you have to pardon I don't have a permission to to to to show this photo but hopefully you won't mind it because he made it public uh they they now give you uh oh thank you Daniel bushore for sharing the live video here uh just live dynamically there uh they it's not black but kind of darkened out superimpositions of the same photo so now I've got like these awkward dark bars on the side of photos so if I go back to my profile and show you some of the photos that I posted last night oh this is a funny one uh someone uh it looks like Chaz Johnson uh he he took the screenshot of his screen he says you might like God Jesus Christ or Chris Perillo I'm apparently in good company that is one change that I do appreciate uh in the new Google+ apparently so I am the Holy Spirit I think that's the whole is that the triumverate there I don't know I'm definitely not a in a run so uh animated gifs still work much to everybody Chagrin uh if I go if I'm looking down here okay so the original photo that I I took on Instagram and I uploaded individually to uh uh Google+ is just this that's all it is that just this little square image from Instagram St but they've placed these awkward bars now they it flanks the image and just it it doesn't look good uh you know profile images are are bigger uh you know the the the uh I guess you would call it a profile card when you hover over a username uh shows a lot more information there are things that they did that I think work really really well but some of the things that they did I'm just kind of questioning I'm wondering why it this just doesn't seem to have been I'm calm I I know I shouldn't take it so personally but I take it personally anyway anybody using Google+ you guys do you use Google+ what do you guys think about the changesthank you for watching liking commenting
