The Lexus LFA: A Marvel of Engineering and Design
The Lexus LFA is a car that defies categorization. With its staggering price tag of $340,000 for just 500 units, it's an engineer's dream come true. The company behind this marvel, Lexus, has taken a bold approach to creating a vehicle that is both rare and special. This car is not just about speed or power; it's about the experience of driving something truly unique.
One of the most striking features of the LFA is its noise. The sound of the V10 engine revving to 9,500 RPM is truly ear-piercing, yet it's a sensation that feels more like music than mere sound. This car is not just loud; it's an experience. For the first few miles, it might feel like just a noise on wheels, but as you get deeper into its capabilities, you begin to realize just how special it truly is.
The LFA's carbon tub and carbon panels are a testament to Lexus' commitment to innovation and precision engineering. This car is a masterclass in minimizing weight while maximizing performance. With a 4.8-liter V10 engine producing an astonishing 552 horsepower and 345 ft-lbs of torque, the LFA is no slouch on the road either. And yet, despite its incredible performance capabilities, it's not just about raw speed; it's also about handling and control.
The interior of the LFA is a work of art in itself. The materials are stunning, with a focus on quality and attention to detail that's unmatched by most cars. From the delicate indicator stalks to the spacious cabin and visibility, every aspect of the driving experience has been carefully considered to create an environment that's both comfortable and exhilarating. And then there's the sound system – yes, you read that right; the LFA has a beautifully designed sound system that will transport you to another world.
One of the things that sets the LFA apart from other high-performance cars is its ergonomics. The driving position, seat, and controls are all designed to create an immersive experience that draws you in and refuses to let go. And then there's the upshift function on the gear shift – it's a little lighter than the down function, which adds to the car's tactile feedback and overall sense of connection.
The LFA is also notable for its subtle use of technology. While some cars might be loaded with features that take away from the driving experience, the LFA keeps things simple and focused on what really matters: the drive itself. The only electronic nannies in the car are the traction control system, which can be turned off at will to unlock the full potential of the V10 engine.
Speaking of performance, the LFA is no slouch. With its razor-sharp throttle response and instant acceleration, it's a joy to drive on twisty roads or simply cruising down the highway. It's not just about raw speed; it's also about agility and handling. And while some might say that it doesn't quite match the likes of a 599 or a GTR in terms of outright performance, we'd argue that it more than holds its own.
One of the most impressive things about the LFA is how well it handles on a road with loose surfaces or slightly damp conditions. With its razor-sharp steering response and incredible grip levels, it's a joy to drive on roads that might otherwise be challenging for many cars. And then there's the V10 engine itself – with its incredible torque output and instant response, it feels more like a high-performance fuel engine than a traditional V10.
In short, the Lexus LFA is a car that defies categorization. It's not just about speed or power; it's about the experience of driving something truly unique. With its stunning design, exceptional handling, and incredible performance capabilities, this car is a true marvel of engineering and design. Whether you're a seasoned enthusiast or simply someone who appreciates the finer things in life, the LFA is an experience that's not to be missed.

fifth fourth third it is truly truly outrageous in fact for the first few miles to me it just feels like a noise on Wheels but of course there's a lot more to it than that don't get hung up on the price either let's forget the price for a minute because you could argue that at certain level of the marketplace people don't even look at the price of cars they just want something that's rare and special this car is rare rare and it's very very special I don't want to get bogged down in O it's six times more than a GTR that's simplistic yes it is not six times the car that a GTR is of course it isn't nothing's six times the car that a GTR is a veyon certainly isn't 12 times the car than a GTR is it's not possible to be that the fit and finish and the just the sheer levels of fetishism that have been lavished on this inter interior I think no no equal it's just stunning the materials are stunning the build is stunning it feels so special when we stop later on I'll talk you through what goes on with the dash when you change from normal mode to sport mode everything wriggles around there's so much going on there's so much titilation it's absolutely brilliant the only thing that's been carried over is the satinav control that works well as you'd expect in a Lexus it's about as clever an amalgam of Lexus sensible Ness and Lexus build and just superc car specialness as I could have imagined or hoped for so these are some of the things that I love about the LFA I love the seat I love the driving position of course I love the noise bear with me I got to give you the noise again outrageous I love these beautiful little indicator stalks that are so delicate I love the way that the up function on the gear shift is a little lighter than the down function I love the spaciousness I love the visibility I love the spars that rise up out of the booted for the rear spoiler I love the slightly wacky ergonomics of the cabin and yes I do like the way it drives too of course it does come unstuck a bit at the price point when you start to think about the performance because it's got 552 horsepower but for 340 Grand you'd expect something beginning with a six these days wouldn't you we've all become a bit SPO you see um does it feel quick it does feel very very quick it doesn't just ACR speed it doesn't just surge in the mid-range like a GTR or something turbocharge this is a normally aspirated V10 and you got to rev the goes off it and then it goes above about 7 and 1/2 it just goes completely potty makes loads of noise and big big numbers of here on this Central speeder but is it 599 quick I'm afraid not no it always feels controllable and containable this car whereas the 599 always feels like it's about to do a wheelie it's a handy size though it's quite wide but it's not very long it's very agile I found it very easy to place on the road hasn't got a vast amount of that steering whe stuff that us Road testers love to Guff on about but you know I can just put it where I want to be on the road and that's all that worries me I did turn the traction control off for the uh yes for the benefit of the video camera and the STS camera and I did completely Pap myself because it's got a razor sharp throttle it's got no flywheel effect at all it's got literally instant response it's incredible the last V10 or the only V10 I've ever driven that feels like this is the CR G engine this is a much much more specialized race car fuel engine than either the BMW or the Lamborghini or the Audi v10s now this feels much much sharper and in second gear on a slightly damp road with a loose surface yeah it felt quite grown up and given there are only three of these things in existence I didn't want to spank one of themfirst it was on then it was off
