Solid State Drive (SSD) Upgrade - Is it Worth It

James says hey David a few years back I finally made a switch to Mac I got myself a 13-inch MacBook Pro I'm now fully converted to these computers they are brilliant two years later I'm slowly feeling a bit outdated so on and so forth. It's a pretty long message but the scheme of it is um he basically wants to upgrade his MacBook Pro to a much better solution because I was going to say much better hard drive but total opposite of a hard drive basically he wants to go for a solid state drive but he's willing to spend about $450 converted however with all that said his point is isn't SSD worth it hell yeah I love my SSD guys it is easily the best upgrade I've ever done to my Mac Pro since I got it in 2007 yeah 2007 it's technically a 2006 machine but I got it in 2007 um but yes SSD amazing upgrade.

Now for those not as technically inclined as myself and most of my viewers which is perfectly okay because I love teaching people the difference between a hard drive and a solid state drive. is moving parts a hard drive typically runs at 4200 RPM 5400 RPM or 7200 RPM RPM sounds like a band stands for revolution per minute in other words how many times it spins per minute kind of like Cycles on a tire of a car I'm not the most Auto inclined person but I figured that's a good comparison Smokey you always conveniently come in and jingle during my videos that's okay uh oh mini earthquake coming is rubbing the tripod so hard drives moving parts but SSD on the other hand no moving Parts whatsoever think of it as flash memory that's actually technically what it is no not Adobe flash flash memory as in it just sits there virtually instant access to that data think of well what's inside my iPad is 32 GB of flash memory and that's exactly what an SSD is.

Now unfortunately the two major downsides of ssds are one price because they are not cheap at all and two you really don't get that much storage. The only way I got to say go with an SSD is if you have your SSD as your primary but a larger hard drive as your secondary for me for instance I have four hard drives in my Mac Pro I have a 60 GB SSD I forget how much it cost it wasn't that cheap but it's totally worth it and then I have three larger hard drives 500 gab one terab and two terabytes I think so yeah it's a lot of space.

So to answer your question an SSD is definitely worth it it's definitely something you have to look into and I promise you you will see faster performance faster boot up times and it is something that you will never take for granted again because regular hard drives in comparison well the they suck. Now of course if you want a lot of storage and you want to save on cost although right now is really not the best time cuz of the flooding and everything other than hard drive is are definitely the way to go but believe me if you want to spend a little bit of money and it's worth it for the extra performance boost and fast at load times and overall faster processing of the data then go for it you will love it I love mine and enjoy so thank you very much James for that question hopefully that answered your question.
