The BIGGEST Gaming Monitor Yet! - Asus ROG PG43UQ Review

**The Agony of a VA Panel: A Review of the ASUS PG32UQX**

Why did you have to go and fit this with a VA panel? No, seriously, I'm not kidding around. The inclusion of a VA panel in this 144Hz 4K monitor is a design decision that has left me perplexed and frustrated. At first glance, it seems like a great idea - the VA panel offers excellent contrast and color accuracy, making it perfect for watching movies or playing games with rich, vibrant colors. However, as soon as I started using this monitor for fast-paced games, the limitations of the VA panel became painfully apparent.

The problem is that the VA panel causes a lot of ghosting, black blurring, and motion blur, especially when playing at high frame rates. This is particularly noticeable in darker and more high-contrast scenes, where the lack of proper motion handling ruins the entire viewing experience. I've tried playing games like Apex Legends, PUBG, and Far Cry 5 on this monitor, and unfortunately, they all suffer from the same issue. The fast-paced action and quick camera movements are a nightmare to watch on this display, making it feel like a chore to play.

One of the reasons I'm so upset about this is because of the marketing. The product page boasts a "1 millisecond" moving picture response time, which sounds impressive at first glance. However, when you look closer, it becomes clear that this is actually a misleading statement. Moving picture response time and greater grey are not exactly the same thing, and the VA panel simply does not meet the standards set by IPS and TN panels in terms of motion handling. This lack of transparency from the manufacturer is frustrating and undermines my confidence in their products.

The amount of ghosting and black blur on this monitor is quite significant, especially when compared to other fast-paced games. I've tried reducing the blur by activating Asus's Extreme Motion Blur technology, but it comes with a cost - adaptive sync is disabled. This means that I have to pick between motion handling and synchronization, which is not ideal.

So, who exactly should buy this monitor? Well, if you're someone who wants a huge and fast 4K screen for watching movies or playing strategy games, then this might be the perfect monitor for you. However, if you're a gamer who values fast-paced action and quick reflexes, then I would strongly advise against it.

**Conclusion**

In conclusion, while the ASUS PG32UQX is an excellent display in many areas - image quality is top-notch, HDR performance is impressive, and input lag is virtually non-existent. However, its motion handling issues with the VA panel are a significant drawback that prevents me from fully recommending it to anyone who wants a fast-paced gaming experience.

I genuinely feel angry about this because of the misleading marketing and the lack of transparency from the manufacturer. It's not just about the performance; it's about trust and confidence in the products you're buying. I hope that manufacturers will take steps to address these issues and provide more accurate information about their products in the future.

**What Do You Think?**

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enladies and gentlemen this is quite literally the big one allow me to introduce you to the rog pg-43uq asus 43-inch gaming monitor with a super fast 144hz refresh rate pixel peeping 4k resolution and adaptive sync technology for both amd and nvidia graphics cards you'd be forgiven at this point for saying oy centric you're having a son mate this is just a tv what you're doing but in actual fact this is still small enough that it can fit on your desk assuming it is quite big but also it's very much targeted towards pc gamers with a lot of pc centric features so in my eyes it still does qualify as a monitor for the correct person i think that this could fit right into your setup and it would make a great purchase but there are definitely a fair few stumbling blocks that you do need to be aware of and unfortunately one of these creates a very dark grey cloud over the entire display but before we get into that a quick word from our sponsor corsair and the k95 platinum xt if you're after an uncompromised keyboard for gaming then look no further as with fully mechanical blue and speed switches double shot pvt keycaps and irresistible iq enabled rgb lighting the k95 platinum not only looks gorgeous but lets you play your best game for years to come you can even use the programmable macro keys with elgato's awesome stream deck software from the fly stream controls and computer shortcuts get yours today with the links down below the pg43uq then let's start with the obvious this thing is ginormous and committing to something like this takes quite a lot of trousers because let's make something absolutely clear bigger is not always better i've been using this for the last five or six days or so and i've really enjoyed having it on my desk but i've been using it for everything because i really wanted to test not only what it would be like in certain situations but in everyone there's definitely some pros and some cons while the 4k resolution makes everything plenty sharp enough for regular desktop use i think it will take at best a week or so to properly get yourself used to this or at worst you'll be wishing you hadn't bought it in the first place i'm in such a habit of full screening every window that i use but this is the first monitor that i think you just can't do that with as there's too much space for your eyes to focus on and mundane tasks like selecting a chrome tab or maybe sending an email actually become a lot more difficult from this excess space and the only solution is to make each window smaller or divide the display into different sections for multitasking it's just very unnatural to use when it's so close to your face at least with the tv you're sitting quite far back but it's a lot of slab of screen that it just makes it a little bit unnatural to use especially when you compare it with something like a big ultrawide monitor because that's wide it's almost a lot easier for it to naturally sort of fit into your field of view whereas because this is quite tall you find that you're consciously sort of looking up and down and this is the bit that i find quite uncomfortable but that's not to say that this monitor can't be put to good use however as i know for a fact that there are loads of people watching this video that have been using big displays like this for years love them and will tell you that there are so many applications where a large display can make perfect sense video editing and monitoring can certainly be one of them or maybe photography or animation but the point is that there are so many far cheaper displays on the market that you could use for these applications if you're buying this it's probably for gaming so let's talk about what truly matters and believe me i would love to sit here and tell you just how good this thing is for gaming how all of the problems go away and this is the best thing since sliced bread but unfortunately there's a problem let's start with the good though no let's start with the great 144 hertz hdr gaming as with 1000 nits of peak brightness and display hdr 1000 certification this is one of a handful of displays that make high dynamic range gaming worthwhile but without any of that failed tax that you'll usually see on the likes of the pg27uq and the pg35eq admittedly yes it's definitely not the same level of experience as it's got inferior contrast but it's a compromise that i think most of us will be willing to make and because this monitor uses dsc or display stream compression means that when you're in the desktop you don't have to worry about losing color information as long as you have one of the latest graphics cards do check compatibility before buying you can actually use this with the full color information without getting any of that horrible pink haloing around text especially when you're playing at high refresh rate in or not in hdr the improvement is definitely more noticeable in desktop applications but it's certainly appreciated in video games nonetheless and playing far cry 5 with a mouse and keyboard on a panel this fast is a real pleasure just be sure to crank up the field of view to avoid any motion sickness don't forget that this is a 4k screen which means it's not really going to be very easy to drive for most of you as it's crying out for an rtx 2080 or higher to truly get the most from this beastly display but if you can do it welcome to the pinnacle of next-gen gaming it's sharp it's bright and it's damn smooth and it's pretty much the holy grail what most of us have been waiting so long for i do find it intriguing though that there's no sign of hdmi 2.1 to be found here and it's not going to be a problem for at least another eight months but when the next generation of consoles arrive 4k at 144 hertz looks very unlikely but still two display ports and two hdmi 2.0 isn't going to cause problems for the vast majority of us i'd also like to take the time to comment on the appearance and overall fit and finish which really should be commended as i think that asus has found the perfect balance now for the gaming brands with the gaming aesthetic tone down to something that's not only tasteful but very desirable heck even the rog rgb logo that illuminates from the back of the monitor really does look good and who would have thought that i would have ever said that oh and bonus points making the whole unit till asus seriously i really can't fault what you've done with your build quality here it is perfect so why why oh why oh why did you have to go and fit this with a va panel no now before you guys light up the comments saying that there's nothing wrong with using a va panel i do agree with you in most cases as you get great contrast and they're far less susceptible to the infamous ips glow that seems to plague a lot of the high-end displays these days and in fact the one that's inside this screen the va panel that is is really freaking good with 90 of the dci p3 color space with layers of richness darks blacks whites color everything that makes anything you put on this display look pretty mesmerizing even the very old and aging dark souls 3 so why then am i so upset about this it sounds great it looks great well the problem is that as soon as you start playing some fast-paced games on this the va panel just causes a lot of ghosting a lot of sort of black blurring and just motion blur in general which especially on a screen this size it just means that it's not very appropriate at all and it just ruins the entire display for me to be crystal clear this is not the worst display i've ever used for motion blur far from it in fact but when you're talking about over 1 000 pounds for a computer monitor you do expect the very best and the amount of ghosting and black blur from this thing is just not at all good enough for the fast-paced games i've been playing i've tried apex legends pubg far cry 5 and all three of them suffer from the exact same issue especially when you're in the darker and more high contrasty scenes and i think that one of the reasons that i genuinely feel quite angry about this is because of the marketing because if you look on the product page it says one millisecond which you might think is fantastic it's very similar to the very best ips and tn panels it's going to be super fast but when you look closely it says moving picture response time which is not the same as greater grey you might be like whoa this is so good this is fast i've got to buy this and it's not and this is bad it needs to stop across the board with all manufacturers because it is it's misleading and i don't think it's good enough just how much of a problem is this well it does depend on what you play as multiplayer first person games are going to be the most heavily affected here but anything that has a lot of camera movement will definitely be noticeable you can reduce the blur by activating asus's extreme motion blur technology which does help but it also disables adaptive sync so you've got to pick your poison here and all things considered it's just such a shame as this is a great display in all other areas image quality is tip top hdr performance really does actually have a bit of a wow factor and the input lag may as well be completely non-existent it's awesome but at the end of the day this is a 144 hertz 4k monitor it's made for those of you that want to play fast games well fast and this is the crux for me who exactly should buy this monitor well it's anyone that wants a huge and fast 4k screen but doesn't play fast games i find the whole thing a little bit puzzling to be honest maybe this is going to be perfect for those of you that want to play racing games or maybe it's for competitive mode or a strategy it really does go out to you on this one is this something that you would still pick up do you think that having a lot of motion blur is actually
