Apple TV OS 13: A New Era for Apple TV Users
Apple has released TV OS 13 for the fourth generation and 4K versions of the Apple TV, and it's available now. To update your software, simply check your updates and follow the prompts to install the new operating system.
One of the first features users will notice is the new screen savers. These can be swiped through if desired, providing an overview of what each option has to offer before deciding which one to use. The new screen savers include underwater options that are sure to catch the eye. Let's take a closer look at these new screen savers and how they work.
The interface of TV OS 13 has been largely redesigned, with some notable changes that users will appreciate. Favorites are now prominently displayed at the top of the screen, and as you scroll through them, you'll notice that each app is full-screen in the background. This creates a seamless viewing experience, with everything behind your main content visible but not distracting. For example, when watching Amazon Prime Video, the background will remain visible but won't detract from your viewing experience.
One of the notable apps that don't seem to support this new design yet is Netflix. However, as you scroll through other applications, you'll notice that they fill the background screen with their respective content. This creates a clean and distraction-free viewing experience.
Another exciting feature in TV OS 13 is the Apple Arcade app. For just $4.99 a month, users can access over 100 games on their Apple TV. The good news is that support for PS4 and Xbox One S/X controllers means you can play these games with your existing gaming setup. This essentially turns your Apple TV into a small console that can handle a wide range of games.
The Apple Arcade app also features a new control center, which can be accessed by holding the TV button on the remote. Inside the control center, users have multiple user support options available. If you sign in with an Apple ID under settings and want to switch between family members, this feature is perfect for those who share their Apple TV with others.
In the control center, you'll also find options to sleep, airplay different devices, search, or even use the microphone button to quickly search through content on your device. For example, if you press the microphone button and say "Hey Siri," it will allow you to quickly search for music, movies, or TV shows.
A new update to Photos makes it more similar to what we see with iOS. When opening the app, users will notice that photos are organized into memories shared in albums across the top of the screen. Upon clicking on a memory, users can view their favorite shots from that particular memory and even create a little slideshow at the top.
The Music app has also received an update, featuring a new interface with user initials displayed in the upper left corner for personalized content viewing. In the album section, you'll notice it looks different from what we've seen before, which will likely be appreciated by those who enjoy exploring their music library.
One of the most exciting features of TV OS 13 is the picture-in-picture option for movies and shows. When playing a movie or show, users can quickly tap on the touchpad to enable this feature, allowing them to move the picture around the screen and even expand it back out again. This feature enhances the overall viewing experience, especially when watching content with friends.
Finally, Apple has included one last tip for users familiar with their devices: pressing and holding the play/pause button allows you to quickly switch between different devices connected to your Apple TV. For those who use both an Apple TV and a HomePod speaker, this feature can be particularly useful if they want to stream audio from their device to that HomePod without having to manually select it.
Overall, TV OS 13 seems like a step forward in the world of Apple TVs, offering new features that enhance user experience. Whether you're an avid gamer or just looking for ways to make your viewing experience more enjoyable, there's something for everyone with this latest update.
