2023 Ford Maverick Tremor - BIGGER adventure for a LITTLE truck

The Ford Maverick: A Compelling Package with Off-Road Upgrades

The Ford Maverick is a little pickup truck that has caught the attention of off-road enthusiasts. With its compact size and impressive capabilities, it's a compelling package offered with a choice between two intriguing powertrains. For those who want to take their Maverick on a dirt trail adventure, there's now a great factory option available - the 2023 Ford Maverick Tremor.

The Maverick Tremor is designed to turn the Maverick into a capable off-road truck. It starts with the 2-liter EcoBoost version of the engine and adds off-road upgrades to enhance its capabilities. Under the skin, the suspension has been retuned to improve handling on rough terrain. The corners have also been modified, and you'll find 17-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires. Additionally, there's almost an inch of extra ground clearance, providing better protection from obstacles.

Ford has also bolted up extra underbody protection to shield the truck from damage. More interestingly, though, is the swapped-in rear differential. This twin-clutch unit is taken from the Bronco Sport Badlands and allows you to lock or filter out torque to the rear wheels as needed. The Tremor gets a range of visual changes to set it apart from standard Maverick models. There are plenty of orange accents, including around the grill area, with darkened Ford logos and a set of orange tow hooks added inside.

The exterior design features more orange accents, including a Tremor logo on the seats. While this upgrade is available for a relatively affordable $2995, which might seem steep at first glance, we believe it's worth it mostly due to the upgraded differential, suspension wheel, and tire upgrades. It's also important to note that this package is only available on XLT or Lariat trims, and you need to get the 2-liter engine to qualify for it. Unfortunately, it's not an option for the hybrid version of the Maverick.

Although the 2-liter EcoBoost engine produces 250 horsepower, which might seem modest compared to other engines in its class, we believe this is a good number for a small rig like the Maverick. It's certainly a great starting point, and if Ford were to offer a performance engine tune like it does with the Ranger, imagine being able to take your truck from 250 to 300 horsepower! Pairing such an upgrade with the Tremor package would make for an exciting off-road experience.

If you want to save some money without sacrificing too much of the off-road capability, there's also a separate appearance package available for $1495. This adds all the visual changes but does not include any of the functional upgrades. While this option is certainly tempting, we believe that spending the extra dough on the full Tremor package provides better value for its added capabilities. As aggressive as it is, we don't see Ford building up a Maverick Raptor just yet, and we wouldn't mind seeing a Badlands version someday either.

The 2023 Ford Maverick Tremor represents an excellent deal for weekend off-road warriors who want to take their trucks on exciting adventures. With its impressive upgrades and capabilities, it's definitely worth considering if you're in the market for a reliable and capable small pickup truck.
