I recently purchased a car that I had hoped would turn out to be a great find. It was listed as a salvage wreck, but the seller assured me it was a good clean car and showed nice. The exterior didn't need much attention, but there were some minor issues with the interior that caught my attention.
One thing that really beat me up was the shifter issue I found annoying. The resting position of my shifter seemed to be off - instead of being in fifth gear, it would rest in a spot that's more like third. This meant that when shifting gears, the car would sometimes push into second gear instead of staying in fifth. It was a small annoyance, but one that I didn't expect to find in a high-end vehicle like this BMW.
Another issue I encountered was with the shifter's behavior when the car was cold. In certain conditions, the shifter would hang and wouldn't budge no matter what I tried - even after shifting into neutral and then back into gear again. It seemed to straighten itself out once the car warmed up, but it was still a strange and unexpected problem.
I have another major pet peeve with this car - when driving it hard and braking suddenly, the seats would sometimes move around and rock back and forth in an unsettling way. I'm not sure what kind of wear had taken place to cause this issue, or if it's related to the driver's weight (since one owner was reportedly a "fat guy"), but it was definitely unexpected.
Another small but annoying issue I found was with the glove box - it would sometimes bounce up and down erratically. This wasn't something that happened in my previous car, so I'm not sure what caused this particular problem.
Finally, there was an issue with the BMW logo on the front of the car. The emblem seemed to have worn away and fallen off at one point, leaving a blank space where it used to be. It's strange because you would expect a high-end vehicle like this M car to maintain its logo consistently.
I've been doing some research for our next project - we're going with a design inspired by the presidential limousine, affectionately known as the "Beast". There are several different designs that have been created over the years, but I think my favorite is the Air Force One-style livery. We'll be posting about the design process and seeking input from our readers to help us select the final design for our Road Force One project.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enalright guys Rob for ready here and I'm gonna go to lunch and I'm gonna take this with me my 2000 M roadster and the point of today's video is to tell you essentially about things that shouldn't go wrong in a hundred thousand miles that essentially have gone wrong in a hundred thousand miles and I'm saying BMW I'm not saying buy a Chevy or a Kia and not expect things to break but this is a BMW and with a not based model BMW I had slightly higher expectations and I'll show you why right initially let me just point out this this thing here I started pulling this out through the dash it belongs back in there but that's because this fell off and it's just glue and I get it like things go bad over time but I had a three hundred thousand mile BMW that the Craigslist BMW which wasn't this bad like interior stuff like this peeling up I mean that's just bad quality essentially glue and craftsmanship and that's not really what you expect now we'll get into the shifter in a second but let's let's start getting on the road here I'm going to take you to one of my favorite places which is local and it's called the filling station alright so first let me get this out of the way I don't think it's a bad car I mean drivability wise it drives really nice for a hundred thousand mile cars that's essentially what I was expecting when I got into this it's the little craftsmanship issues that I really am not too thrilled about and stuff that I don't really want to spend the money to fix on that ten thousand dollar car but also it's not what you expect from BMW engineering remember I had a three hundred thousand mile five Series and that was older than this and it was nicer I'm not when I say nicer the interior held up better with three times the mileage and this one does and that's sort of what called me off guard a little bit and disappointed me a little bit now I don't know what the previous owners did with it but there was no into that this car was a not the accurate mileage and be that it was neglected in any way shape or form the guy I bought it from had it parked in his garage it's just it's not a there's no indication that like one of those covers really beat this you really bought a salvage wreck or rebuilt car or anything like that it was a good clean car and it showed nice it doesn't need a detail on the outside but these little things aren't supposed to happen another thing that's weird that I can't figure out is the shifter has an issue check this out this I find annoying the resting position and my shifter that's fifth see that's not first I mean that's not third it should be here so straight up goes into the third instead goes to the right and that's fit so when you're shifting and you're going along it sort of pushes you second to fifth that's sort of a problem this part this reverse how you fixed that that's five that's three like mentioning now that shifter issue only seems to be when the car is cold and occasionally because right now I'm in I'm in second right up to third that was not a problem but it does have that issue where and it's not just once that that's happened it's been a couple of times where the shifter does hang right no matter what you do if you try to like realign it by popping in the neutral you're driving for a bit but when it warms up it seems to straighten itself out which is sort of weird that's new to me and then probably one of my biggest pet peeves in this car is if you drive it hard and when I say hard like just sporty and you step on the brake I don't know if you're gonna be able to see this but I'm gonna try I'm gonna not really brake check myself but step on the brake to the point where you'll see the movement and the seat which the seats not supposed to move so you definitely don't want your seat rocking around and that's really unexpected I don't know what sort of wear has to take place in order for the shifter to go there or for the seat to wear down don't know if it's like a fat guy used to own it so there was more momentum when he braked and the track got a little bit worn down and just I didn't experience this on a $300,000 car didn't expect to experience it on this there's another thing the glove box the bouncy up-and-down glove box thing that shouldn't happen that didn't happen in the last car that shouldn't happen in this car and I mean this car is very very simple I mean when it's go to the bad boys it's a shiny dick with two chairs in it that's all this really is there's not a lot going on in this car two seats nothing else the convertible top is electric but it's got the manual component that you have to latch it in and pop it up in order to open it those are all issues that I wasn't expecting when you're talking about a very very minimalistic car and the last issue which is probably the weirdest where item that you can have is the emblem on the front the BMW portion of it wore away and like fell onto the ground and not for nothing that's sort of an indicator you don't want your logo of all things that have to hold true forever you don't want your logo to go to and that's effectively what happened in front of it is a logo at the that disappeared that was also the case on the other end of three that I had that I gave away the giveaway cool so slightly unexpected for a BMW I mean I would expect things like this again the the hood dies and the Kia's but BMW especially when you're not talking like a base vehicle like even like a mass-produced z3 this is the M car I mean you want that standard of representation for a long time and you didn't get that and I don't think that was because of the way the car was driven or maintained I just think the card sort of fell apart a little bit that's but and related news everybody if you check the link in the description I'm gonna put a link to the car hauler designs and I know the design that we're going with we're going Road force one style something mocked up after the Air Force One livery that you see on the presidential planes and Road Force One there's a marine wine there's Air Force one it all sorts of ones but there's no Road Force one and they call it the Beast it's the presidential limo president isn't moving any cars around with the car carrier I need to so Road Force one it is and you can check the poll in the description help me select the final design or tweak whatever is there your pump is greatly appreciated because that's going to be the next project and we're not wrapping and we're probably gonna paint it requires some skill and look nicely nice and get that truck project a little bit closer toalright guys Rob for ready here and I'm gonna go to lunch and I'm gonna take this with me my 2000 M roadster and the point of today's video
