Blackberry Z10 Review - An Upgrade or a Downgrade
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enI try to be as unbiased as I can whenever a new device comes out be it iOS Android or even Windows phone so when Rim announced the new BlackBerry Z10 I was optimistic maybe this will get blackberry back on the map If we're honest though that's like saying maybe this year Jacksonville will win the Super Bowl I mean it's possible but very very unlikely either way let's take a look at this new BlackBerry and see if it can at least win some people over now before we get into judging it would probably behoove us to run through the new device and the new version of blackberry's operating system BlackBerry 10 first up The Styling which I have to admit is actually quite slick the device feels solid and yet is quite light the large matte black finish and rubberized back give it a more refined look and even the Chrome Blackberry logo on the back is kind of cool looking after that is where we need to get into the more important thing here the operating system the device is an interesting gesture system that I quite like so I've been from off the scream onto it in different directions does things like exits the app brings you to your notifications Etc I love this on the older Nokia N9 with Migo that you've never heard of probably and like it here and on the new Microsoft Surface it's a great way to get rid of buttons on the device and also let's admit it lends a slight cool Factor unfortunately for the Z10 that is where the cool Factor begins to fade quickly a big issue for Rim in this device is the lack of apps there simply isn't many and some of the big names you seem to find on all the other operating systems yes even Windows Phone aren't in the App Store this is made even sadder by the fact that Rim made it possible to take your existing Android app and use their site to repackage it to work on Blackberry 10 in a few relatively easy steps and yet very few developers have done this what does that say when a company makes it easy to Port existing apps and developers still go eh thanks but we're good despite the lack of apps there is a bigger issue the ones that are there aren't very responsive or is feature Rich Facebook despite having a great LTE connection takes a while to load Twitter same thing Maps Etc in fact the entire rest just doesn't have the smoothness of the other much more polished operating systems that isn't to say it's slow per se but compared to the other options out there you have to feel like it just isn't up to par in fact handing this device to anyone who's used to using an Android iPhone or Windows phone device results in them handing it right back to you after the short amount of amusement Fades much in the same way I'd imagine it would go if you told the guy who owns a Ferrari to try your Honda Civic out he take the keys drive it around the corner give it back smile politely and say that was fun with a great little car then immediately get back into his own car peel Out Flo down the road and then think to himself Ah that's better these issues are expected from a fully redesigned operating system though all of the os's went through this when they first came out so it's to be expected issue is with Rim having been able to see how far the competition they're up against has come over the years learn from their mistakes borrow non-copyrighted features they liked Etc and when their market share is crumbling can they really afford to have to go through iterations of their OS before or it's cut up to the other players now if we're honest none of these issues should matter to Blackberry not really at least you see there's a very specific demographic for Blackberry users at least here in the US no I'm not just talking about business users necessarily even more specific than that hi how's it going good how are you good so I see you have a Blackberry there yes I do can I ask you why uh work makes me have it for work so work forces you to have it work forces me to have it I have an iPhone regularly do you really you actually have a separate phone your iPhone is your personal phone so the only reason you have that is because work makes you do it work makes so you know that I've been here asking that question all day and that the majority of time that is the answer I get so why does Blackberry not need to worry about their new os's faults well frankly at least here in the states the majority of blackberry buyers are Blackberry buyers because they're forced to have a Blackberry by their job so they've come from another Blackberry so if we compare the new Z10 to an older Blackberry instead of to a Windows phone Android phone or an iPhone it's amazing internet speeds are faster full large touchcreen compared to a small one responsive on-screen keyboard for those still addicted to the normal crackberry layout new BlackBerry Hub with all your messages emails notifications all in one inbox same apps that they're used to the list goes on so to sum up if you're coming from anything other than a Blackberry to the new Z10 Ferrari to a Civic coming from any other Blackberry to the Z Z10 however uh tricycle to CivicI try to be as unbiased as I can
