Cream Z Giveaway Ep. 5 - Dual Caliper Hydro Handbrake Install
I'm Not a Fan of Doing Hydraulic Handbrake Setups This Would Have Been a Lot Easier if I Had a Little Bit Longer Lines But Because of the Length That I Had, I Was Concerned I Wouldn't Be Able to Run Them Through the Car Like I Initially Planned So I Had to Tuck Them Up, Pull Out the Drive Shaft and Route Them Up Through Here Underneath the Car Which is a Bit More Complex Cuz You Got to Make Sure That They're Not Going to Hit Like Any Moving Parts or Anything.
So Just to Give You a Brief Idea of What I Did Keep It Away from Moving Suspension Arms and Stuff I've Got a Zip Tied Here and I Also Used a Bunch of These Things That I Got From the Ron Francis Wiring Guy to Fasten It All Up and Through the Trans Tunnel Basically Just Unplugged All the Stuff and Now Obviously I'm Not a Fabricator So I Don't Know Particularly How We're Gonna End Up Mounting This But How I Kind of Intended It Which I Think is Similar to How it in Chess is Kind of Have It Like This and I'm Assuming That We'll Do Some Sort of Bracket or Brace that's Like a 90 Degree Bend That Either Bolts or Welds Right On To the Tunnel If Only I Knew Someone Who Knew How to Weld Oh Hey Alberto So I'm Curious to See How You End Up Planning This Out Based on My Little Idea.
So Probably Just Gonna Have Them Welded In Like This The Only Tricky Thing is Clearance with the Shift Knob Near the Handbrake Which is First Gear and You're Not Gonna Be Like Shifting into First Wall Drifting But If I Do Put a Shorter Shift Knob On It It'll Give a Lot More Clearance So Alberto You're Not Gonna Believe What Sick Y Sent for You These Came in the Box with the Handbrake I'm Not Even Kidding Do You Want Some Type of Kidder's Like Beer and Other Fabricators I Got Chocolate I Got Myself a Hot Chocolate Fabricator Here's Your Hot Chocolate Sir Oh Yes Whipped Cream These Rings Are Glasses Endure Right Now But Those Are Safety Glasses I Already Grinding This Down I A Thing So What Did You Do to My Handbrake Oh You Won the Rest All Right Here Since Since He Cut It It'll Be Able To Mount Actually Like Pretty Much Flat Down Here So We'll Have More Clearance for the Trim Going Over It and He'll Get a Much Nicier Weld Rather Than Trying to Do the L Brace Idea Like I Had.
So We Were Hoping to Have It Super Super Clean And I'll Have to Trim Too Much But The First Gear Hitting the Handbrake is a Bit of a Concern We Don't Have it Too Much of an Angle So Probably Just Gonna End Up Cutting Some of This Out It'll Stick Out A Little Bit More But It's More Important to Have It Properly Functioning and Away from the Shift Knob Alberto Did a Really Really Nice Job Welding It In Here Feels Insanely Sturdy The Only Issue is the Radio Does Not Fit It Just Slightly Hits the Reservoirs I'll Have to Delete the Radio or What I Think We'll End Up Doing Even Though I Hate Wiring Up Radios Alberto Said That He'd Give Me a Hand and We Could Just Do Like a Single Din Radio It's Not Hard I Just I Don't Like Doing Things if There's No Reason to But I Do Think That Whoever Gets This Car Should Have a Radio So I'm Gonna Pull the Radio Out and I'll Show You How Nice Everything Looks Set Up.
So If You Look at It Not Too Shabby Everything Looks Like it Lines Up Pretty Well Just Have to Mount the Center Console and Mount All the Other Trim Pieces Back In and Then Bleed the Handbrake It's Already Current Day as You're Watching This and I've Got a Ton of Other Stuff to Do So Unfortunately I Think I'm Just Gonna Finish Up This in Another Video Where I'll Probably Do the Head Unit Install All the Trim Back Together and Feed the Handbrake But for Now I Hope You Guys Enjoyed This Video Just as a Reminder This Car is Just a Reminder if You Want a Chance to Win This Car Every Ten Dollars That You Spend on Lzm FG Comm Gets You an Entry for a Chance to Win the Car As Well as $1,500 Cash and a Set of Cosmas Wheels Sorry And It's a Set of Cosmos Drifts Pairs Those Drift Spares Right There You Also Get a Chance to Win a Set of PC Coil Overs and You Also Get a Chance to Win a Set of Cosmic Wheels So I'll Put All the Links and All the Rules and Everything in the Description But I Hope You Guys Enjoyed This Video.
And If You Have a Z Hope It Gives You Some Helpful Tips on How to Mount Up a Handbrake or Do a Dual Caliper Setup I'm Happy to Answer Any Questions I See in the Comment Section as Well So I Will.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwhat's up guys and welcome to today's episode of Jimmy Neutron we will be installing a handbrake a hydraulic handbrake any giveaways II it's Jimmy Neutron because everyone makes fun of how tall my hair is I know I don't really like it but that's besides the point I really really didn't want to do a hydro in this car because it was such a pain doing it on Nicole's car then again I did use the drop knuckles which complicated things a ton on her car but I just wasn't happy with how consistent the stock can break was locking up and I want this to be a very reliable consistent and predictable drift car for whoever wins it so we're doing hydro I've gone ahead and laid out everything that we're going to be using these are the pro series dual caliper brackets these will essentially bolt up to the rear and give us an extra place to mount an additional caliper I'm just lightly gonna touch on dual caliper versus inline hydro when you have a hydraulic handbrake you're essentially adding an extra brake that you can use with your hand that will lock up the rear now some people use an inline setup where you tap into the brake lines go into the rear calipers some will use a dual caliper where you have your own separate system and you have to rear caliper sets just like this now the advantage of doing a dual caliper setup you can foot brake while you handbrake very easily when you try to foot brake in handbrake at the same time when you have an inline setup it feels kind of wonky so one other notable thing with these is I'm pretty sure at least the way that they were on an S chassis these also act as spacers so if you have very tight fitment you're gonna have to roll your fenders because these will space your wheels out looks like a few millimeters we have three is our auto to manual conversion clutch lines which should be all that we need we're essentially going to be running one from the master to a tee and then one to each brake caliper which we have just a set of stock 350z CalPERS and then we have this beautiful sticky hem brake the same one that we installed in the 370z in Texas this one is what we wanted in the Z but we didn't actually get it's the reverse pull style so we can hopefully have the master tucked up underneath the dash kinda in there in terms of fittings I think all that we should need is this tee right here and then this adapter that will thread into the master and then the line will thread into that it gets pretty confusing when it comes to like fittings and all that stuff when you're doing a handbrake so I'm gonna go ahead and try to put all the links in the description so if you guys do want to replicate the exact setup that we end up doing on this car you can very easily I forgot to mention I have a friend that works at sickie and when they send the handbrake they also sent some hot chocolate for Alberto hopefully we can use this as some persuasion to get him to come over later and help well this in place they do make a bracket that will just let that bolt on but I really like how Matheny did in his car so we're gonna try to do the same setup which requires some welding if I'm smart while I do this on the Black Sea I'll do the welded diff at the same time as the hydro song we have to pull the axis off once the axles are just to 14 mil wrenches but like I've told you guys before with s jassi's you're gonna need an odd size for the axle where it meets the hub thirty two millimeter big ol guy and an impact and you can pull it right off alright so we're pulling the calipers off now and if you look feeling show now that the axles out those four bolts that we need to undo are exposed back there just got to pop those out I don't really know the correct order like what else is supposed to be done in terms of this hand brake assembly I think I'm gonna have to pull apart the stock came brake assembly a little bit to get along but I'm not too sure yet so I'm just gonna cross that bridge when I get to it and we got the CalPERS if tied up here just keep the haters happy way that it's not hanging from the line you guys happy with me look at that so great it's not going anywhere see unbolt those four guys you'll be able to just slide the hub right out then we get to work with my favorite thing in the world I'll parking brake assembly the best advice I can give you is to take a picture of this right now that way when you're putting everything back together you don't forget how everything goes and will make life much nicer got two bolts back here no that's like holding a hand brake assembly on I wish I could just not take this apart so this is kind of tricky not tricky but if you know who these idiots come tricky so this right here you just turn it 90 degrees and it'll pop right out and then just come right out careful sometimes it's marked where I wear because like all these Springs and things you're crazy don't lose all these little pieces same thing on this side and then you should be able to kind of like pull this out of the way I don't think you need a legal notice for this I think you can just kind of like be clever and just finagle the situation and kind of move it out of the way you might actually be able to there's just like a little pin in here that slides out we're going to be able to get it out without actually removing everything which would be kind of nifty but once you take apart boss confusing it gets but yeah just like a little sitting here got it up we can put this down all right that pig has lost his hat we pull it all the way that the dual caliper bracket mounts up I told you guys it's kind of like a spacer it's gonna sit just like this obviously one of the problems is that's up against here the caliper is not gonna work with this dust shield so what we're gonna do it will take like a fivehead screwdriver and it'll make like a little mark just it's okay to cut a little bit too much so like that and like that and then we will put probably much better tool for this in a giant grinder but this is all I have that's what I use look at good look at that definitely cut a little bit more than I needed to but it'll be obvious when you're looking at it but this goes on like this so that it's lined up right with the other caliper sandwich right over it I was concerned that these bolts wouldn't be long enough but they indeed are so we'll just slide this in the hardest part is gonna be getting that little pin back in I don't know any tips for it if you know any tips feel free to comment them below and help other people but I've struggled with it on the other side one thing I didn't realize is that when you're putting the hand brake cables back together because of that spacer you're gonna have to loosen up the hand brake in the car and I wasn't able to spin it because you have everything apart on the car so what you're gonna have to do is actually take the center console off it's just like one Phillips here one Phillips here one Phillips here one Phillips here and then hold this down here to get it to spin off because at least in my case it was already bottomed out and then undo the nut from here probably gonna have to pull the spring so might as well do it now because this thing is you're gonna want to let you put the pin in one that's like this because it's just a pain maybe you can and I'm so happy I didn't have to take it apart leave that I was just few drivers then you get the pin in it's really not that bad I just really just like it I don't know if this is like something you're not supposed to do but I don't have one of those tools that compresses the brake so I kind of made a little rig with a socket a little bracket and the vise so I'm compressing the brakes so look at that it works so proud we saved like 20 minutes having to drive look at that the Bolton spacers for the CalPERS can be kind of confusing the brackets do come with instructions to tell you which spacers to use and everything but it is pretty self-explanatory it has shorter bolts to use with the secondary calipers and then your stock ones because of the extra spacer in there are going to need a little bit of a spacer that's the same thickness I think it's like a quarter-inch just to keep them in with the rotor so so definitely a good recommendation to just look after you install everything and make sure the bolts are going through and touching the rotor just to make sure you use the right size space in everything you look like we're good so just both axes together and I gotta figure out the line set up at how I'm gonna mount the handbrake guys I'm not a fan of doing hydraulic handbrake setups this would have been a lot easier if I had a little bit longer lines but because of the length that I had I was concerned I wouldn't be able to run them through the car like I initially planned so I had to tuck them up pull out the drive shaft and route them up through here underneath
