SilverStone LD03 - Vertical, Glass, and Heat!

The Silverstone LD 0-3: A Large Form-Factor Case with Unique Features

It has been a while since we've taken a look at a case from Silverstone on the review table, but today we are taking a look at the new LD 0-3. This is a 90 X case, and it will be Viet hung as the larger end of the comparison series. The layout and orientation of this case are primarily interesting features. The front panel is mostly glass, which provides an elegant art piece from most angles in my opinion. The three tempered glass side panels have a nice dark tint that can hide cable clutter on the interior but also show some illumination.

One compromise to the all-glass exterior approach is the fact that it's not without its drawbacks. For example, the vertical layout and motherboard rotation of 90 degrees means that most ports and IO are located at the top of the case, leaving a big empty pocket of air to accommodate cable clutter. This can be frustrating for users who want to put hardware in this area. On the other hand, the Silverstone LD 0-3 is on the larger end of things when it comes to size, coming in at twenty-six point four liters in total volume.

To put this into perspective, we've also got a few other ITX cases for comparison, including the Nth-th-2/10 and the SM-580 reviews. The LD 0-3 is not technically a small form-factor case but is rather suited towards desktop gaming systems or workstations. Despite its larger size, the LD 0-3 looks like it belongs in this class of cases, in my opinion.

The interior of the Silverstone LD 0-3 features a vertically oriented motherboard and GPU layout. This results in a smaller footprint for the case. One really strong feature about this case is that it can accommodate CPU coolers up to 190 millimeters in height. I was personally excited to test the Noctua NH-D15 in this case, but unfortunately, it gets blocked by the steel panel used for storage.

Instead, I opted for the Noctua NH-U12A, which gave a strong recommendation in my review. The LD 0-3 performed well with the deleted 8700K, and if you were to use something lower in performance and power draw like an RTX 2060, things should be okay thermally. However, for power-hungry cards like the RTX 2080 or 2080 TI, hybrid cooling systems are recommended due to the high temperatures reaching up to 12 degrees Celsius when removing the side panels.

The vertical orientation is also a limitation that I'd like to see expanded upon by other companies. I feel like there's more potential for RTX systems, and it would be interesting to see how this design approach could be applied to larger cases in the future.

Pricing for the LD 0-3 varies depending on where you are in the world. In Australia, it was priced at around $145 AUD, which translates to about $100 USD. However, I recently checked Amazon US and found that it was listed at $159, possibly due to low stock or potential out-of-stock status. Despite this variance, the price of the LD 0-3 seems fair, considering the unique features offered by this case.

In conclusion, the Silverstone LD 0-3 is a solid ITX offering for desktop systems that looks great despite its limitations when it comes to GPU thermals. The vertical orientation has some potential, but more needs to be explored in terms of expansion and application to other cases.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enso it's been a while since we've taken a look at a case from Silverstone on the review table but today we are taking a look at the new LD 0-3 it's a 90 X case I'll Viet hung the larger end but it does have a few interesting things going for it primarily the layout and orientation you'll also notice that it's on the exterior mostly glass here is the front panel so full glass exterior and there are some compromises to this approach but more on that in just a minute so first things first let's take a look at a size comparison against a few other ITX cases so the LD 0-3 is on the larger end of things coming in at twenty six point four liters in total volume that makes it slightly smaller than the N th th 2/10 also to the left we have the so-called pro and nice lager SM 580 reviews on those two coming soon so this isn't technically a small form-factor case it's actually not even close at 26 over 26 liters in fact this is more suited toward a desktop gaming system or workstation and on a desktop this case looks truly in its element in my opinion the LD 0-3 looks like an elegant art piece from most angles in my opinion this is definitely one of the better-looking cases that I've had a chance to review the three tempered glass side panels have a nice dark tint enough to hide the cable clutter on the interior but light enough to show some illumination as well I also appreciate that there's no exterior thumb screws to keep things nice and clean the front panel can be pulled off with a little bit of effort and then the two side panels are secured with neat little pushpins also there is one drawback to having this vertical layout and having your motherboard rotated 90 degrees so that means that all your ports and your eye are going to be located at the top so the top 15% portion of the case nothing goes here at all you can't put Hardware here would be nice to put drives here for example but you can't it's basically just a big empty pocket of air to accommodate the cable clutter for your i/o taking a look at the interior we find the vertically oriented motherboard and GPU layout resulting in these small footprint of the case now one really strong feature about the Silverstone LD 0-3 is that it can accommodate CPU coolers up to 190 millimeters in height as we'll see if you want to run a ninety nine hundred K or 3900 X in this case that is totally doable silverstone are opting for an air tunnel approach here when it comes to air flow in this - 120 mm fans pre-installed that channel air from the bottom of the case then at the top both fans are unfortunately DC fans that are pinned at 1300 rpm though I'd highly recommend replacing these as they are quite loud for storage we've got room for two two and a half inch drives or a single three and a half inch drive on this steel panel I personally would have liked to see storage located somewhere else in this case as this is visible from the exterior building in the old e03 is pretty simple and I didn't really have any problems at all actually the lay how it really reminds me of just basically a vertical in case m1 if you can imagine if you've got an N case m1 flipped it on the front of the case that's basically what you're getting here all right now on to CPU cooling and as I mentioned this is a strong point for the LD 0-3 mostly because it can accommodate quite large coolers now I was personally really excited to test knock - as nhd 15 in this case but unfortunately it gets blocked by that steel panel that's used for storage so the nhd 15 won't fit without removing this instead I went for knock tours Nhu 12a a cooler than it gave a strong recommendation in my review and here performed pretty well testing with our deleted 8700 k doesn't give us much information at all because it's just not enough power and heat generated for this setup so here it performs about in line with the NZXT h 200 with the dark rock pro and other SFF water-cooled setups with the kraken x 52 the real test comes when we throw in in 9900 k with a mild overclock where the LDS River 3 can keep up with a water-cooled end case m1 remember though that case is just 12 and a half liters in volume so around half the size there's no doubt that there are more powerful air coolers out there that can fit in the LD 0 3 and there you could potentially outperform these smaller cases that have water cooling support now with the LD 0 to 3 you can fit to 120 millimeters in there where the fans are positioned so if you want to run an a IO on both the CPU and GPU that is totally possible on the node of the GPU up to three hundred and nine mils in length is supported and you are pretty much limited to a two slot card a two and a half slot card will fit but then it's going to be pushed directly up against that tempered glass side panel silverstone told me directly that they were willing to trade off warmer GPU thermals for that full glass exterior and as we can see by looking at the thermals for our 1080 TI SC - things are getting pretty toasty do you note that this is a 250 watt TDP GPU and if you were using something a lot lower in performance and power draw things should be okay there as an example something like the RT X 2060 should perform okay in here thermally so here we're seeing a 12 degree drop in thermals when removing the side panels that is pretty enormous so the bottom line is that if you do plan on running a power-hungry card in here like a 2080 or 2080 TI for example make sure that you also have a 120 mm liquid core attached to that luckily though there is enough room for a 120 mm a IO at the bottom of the case in addition to the large tower call for the CPU and that in my opinion would be the optimal cooling setup for this case so overall the silverstone LD 0-3 is a pretty solid ITX offering for a desktop system it totally looks the part although the limitations are pretty strong when it comes to GPU thermals again hybrid cards are recommended here I think that's pretty much going to be necessary if you're going to be running a 2070 or more the vertical orientation is also something that I'd like to see expanded on by other companies I feel like there's a lot more potential to be had there for RTX systems now pricing for the LD 0-3 is not something that I'm totally 100% sure of for example in Australia it's 145 Australian dollars which translates to about 100 US dollars but then I checked on Amazon US recently and it was $159 I'm guessing that could be because it's low on stock or potentially out of stock but hopefully we do see this case come in at around 100 US dollars for that price i feel like what silverstone are offering here is pretty fair as always guys a huge thanks for watching consider subscribing down below if you haven't already and i'll see you all in the next\n"
