My Life Update: From Glass Coffee Table to Reading Habits
I was recently asked what happened to my glass coffee table, which is a fair question. I gave it away to a friend before we left New York, and we got rid of a few furniture pieces in our apartment. One of them was that beautiful glass coffee table, which served us for a long time as our living room centerpiece. However, it's really pretty and also quite a pain to clean because there are panels of glass that need to be removed to get into all the crevices to make sure they're clean. We were just tired, so when one of our friends showed interest in taking it, we said take it! And now you can enjoy windexing it every few days because you'll definitely need to.
When it comes to reading, I have a bit of a confession to make. I'm very sensitive to temperature, which is why I generally prefer reading indoors. I don't really like the sun too much and would rather cozy up with a good book on a couch and a fuzzy blanket. There's something about being in an air-conditioned room that makes it easier for me to focus on my reading. A crisp morning is always a great environment to read in, especially if you have a nice cup of coffee nearby.
One thing I miss about New York is the fall season. While there's no real fall in Texas like there is in other parts of the country, I do miss the cozy atmosphere that comes with it. The idea of leaf changing and pumpkin festivals was always something I looked forward to during my time in New York, but I've had to find ways to recreate that feeling in my life here. That's why I'm a big fan of decorating my home with autumnal decor, watching TV shows that evoke a cozy fall vibe, and reading books that transport me to a different season.
Clothing is another topic that I'm happy to discuss. My favorite item from Madewell is definitely their denim. I feel like if you're going to buy anything from Madewell, it should be jeans. They always make me feel great, and the fit is really important to me. As someone with a unique body type, finding clothes that fit well can be tricky, but Madewell always seems to get it right. Right now, I'm obsessed with their latest collection, and I've been eyeing up some new pieces to add to my wardrobe.
When it comes to reading routines, I have a few tips to share. First of all, it's essential to schedule in time for reading every day. Even if it's just 15 minutes, try to make it happen! For me, the best times to read are usually right before bed or when I wake up in the morning. There's something about starting your day with a good book that sets the tone for the rest of the day. My other tip is to not be too hard on yourself if you don't meet your reading goals every time. Reading isn't a competition, and it's okay to take breaks or read less than you think you should.
Finally, I wanted to share how I met my partner, Clay. We actually met seven years ago at the University of Texas, where we were both part of the same college club called Model UN. It was a fun time, and we got to meet many lifelong friends through this organization. We didn't have any classes together, but we did work on several projects that brought us closer together. That's how I met Clay, and I'm so grateful for it.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhi guys it's regan and welcome back to another video i'm here today with another life update my second life of the video of the year a lot of things happening in 2021. honestly i love making these videos because i like to keep you guys updated and informed it's like telling my friends like what's you know what's the haps in my life you know what i mean so without further ado let's go ahead and dive right in the biggest update and kind of the jumping point for this q a is i'm getting married i already made this announcement over on instagram but clay and i did get engaged which is very very exciting we're both very excited about it and uh so i feel officially very adult at this exact point in time but yeah that's really like the big thing i wanted to clue you guys in on we're getting married which is very cool that being said i did ask you guys to submit questions over on instagram for a q a so i thought let's just go ahead and dive right into that by far and away the most uh popular set of questions have to do with you know the engagement plans weddings stuff so let's go ahead and just start with that first things first clay did propose about five days ago now it was very thoughtful it was very cute it was very private exactly kind of what i would want in terms of a proposal so we did a beautiful lovely job he crafted like all week he made all these little signs and he kind of set up all these little stations around our apartment i probably won't show like specific pictures from it but it was all very very cute he had all these pictures from the course of our relationship and it was honestly adorable and i loved it very very much he put so much work into it and honestly i'm really grateful for just the whole thing it was all very very special outside of the proposal itself i would say the second most popular question would be do we have any ideas for when how what i have in terms of a dream wedding if we have any ideas for a dream wedding and honestly no we have definitely have talked at length about getting married what kind of wedding we kind of want and i think in terms of the actual wedding style we're both very open to pretty much anything we have not really thought about like what is our ideal when it comes to planning a wedding um in fact in large part why we waited so long to get engaged was because we both didn't really want to start the process of planning one but we both feel like now is a good time to kind of begin that journey though i feel like it's going to take us a while just a heads up but honestly i don't really have any like finite ideas or expectations i need to do a lot of research clay needs to do research we need to come together and figure out like what we want for like our wedding um but i think primarily for both of us it's just about like friends and family having a good time a good email playlist one thing we have talked about at length and our definitive on is our honeymoon we have known what our honeymoon was going to be for the past like five years and that's going to japan so hopefully um by the time we get married we would be able to actually travel and um we would want to go to japan and do all sorts of things in japan so no i have no idea what i would want my wedding to look like but i'm pretty sure what i want my honeymoon to look like and it definitely has to do with eating a lot of ramen and going to the new nintendo land because that looks really cool and then last wedding related question i'll answer before diving into the other parts of the q a would be was it a surprise had clay and i talked about getting married before the proposal itself was definitely a surprise i was not expecting it at that specific moment at all but in terms of like getting married and uh wanting to get married and the proposal idea itself that was not a surprise clay and i have talked uh many times at length about kind of like future stuff wedding stuff like what we want um in general so we've definitely had many conversations about getting married and kind of figuring out the timing that was best for us but in terms of the actual proposal i was not expecting it at all in that moment so that was really fun he was able to really keep kind of a surprise element of it which i really appreciated before i leave this portion of the q a i also just wanted to quickly say thank you guys so much both clay and i were honestly blown away overwhelmed just like amazed by how many people wished us congratulations over on instagram and just like once we made that announcement over there and it was just so i don't know beautiful i teared up many times reading all those messages it was just so heartfelt and i just want to say again thank you so much in terms of like wedding content i probably won't post a lot about it on youtube but i'll be more likely to post anything like as it's happening over on instagram so if that is a realm of interest for you at all i will point you to my instagram below because that will most likely be where i would share any um i don't anticipate starting to plan any wedding for a while like a good solid half a year of time but you never know actually you never know what can happen down the line so anyway i just wanted to quickly share the news say thank you to everyone who's already said congratulations really really appreciate it and answer some specific proposal wedding related questions um yeah it's also very exciting jumping into the rest of the popular questions a lot of people are wondering how clay and i are settling in texas jobs all of that shenanigans and i'm really happy to report the move went honestly pretty smoothly the unpacking went pretty smoothly i now have my book show so i personally feel very very settled in terms of like professionally settling in um i did make a bit of a change earlier this year shifting from corporate to more freelance marketing style work i worked in the programmatic space for an ad agency and now i work for myself across a variety of projects it's been an interesting change personally it's definitely less structured which i appreciate it a lot and it allows me to have a lot more flexibility in terms of content creation too which i really appreciate and in general i think i was just craving a bit of a change professionally i'm not sure if i'll stay freelance forever or maybe i want to work for another agency or kind of flip to another side of the industry all together i'm trying to not pressure myself to have like everything figured out for the next 10 years i used to be like five year 10-year plan kind of person and recently i'm like let's just make it through the week you know what does tomorrow look like what are we having for dinner so right now everything is working i'm happy i'm comfortable professionally speaking um i don't know if this will be a forever situation but but i don't feel like i'm gonna push myself to decide if it's a forever situation quite yet play professionally is also in a new and exciting place to talk briefly about it clay has always worked in the financial sector in the past three years in new york he worked in banking with our move back to texas he kind of wanted to take a step away from that if you're familiar with kind of the banking vibes it's not so great for like work-life balance and he kind of wanted to adjust to a more traditional corporate role and he actually started a new job a couple weeks ago and he's liking it a lot and settling into that so very excited for him on that journey and you know as long as he's happy i'm happy in that regard so he's doing good too a lot of questions about clay and his job i know he always got a lot of comments about him always working hopefully in the future that will not be the case he's no longer working that type of job so he has really been enjoying his free time he's gotten really back into video games he's doing all sorts of like sports things you know he's doing all sorts of hobbies again which we're both very excited about in terms of moving back to texas outside of just like settling in and job stuff it's honestly been really nice i was curious if there was going to be kind of an adjustment period of leaving new york but i mean obviously there's quite a few elements of new york i miss from the food and just the walkability but i think moving back has also been really nice just being around friends and family again and in general just kind of settling into more space and i also just feel like our social calendars have been really full it's been i don't know so lovely just to casually be able to meet up with a friend that i used to only see like once every two years or a year for a drink on a wednesday any week that i want to or just i don't know see just a group of our friends on the weekend and stuff it's just been really really nice and i just feel like we're doing more in different types of things than we ever did in new york now i do feel like we have a bit more time and flexibility and just pure vicinity to be able to hang out with some of our friends which has just been really really cool i've been really trying to get a lot of people around me to read the books i've been reading and i have not really succeeded too much but i'm working on it i'm working on making like a physical book club but i'll keep you guys posted on my success rate with that a lot of questions about this apartment i will say i've gotten quite the chuckle out of everyone basically realizing that the layout of our new apartment is pretty much exactly the same as our old apartment that was not intentional that was totally random but it kind of worked out because all of our sure i mean it's just a really wild time out there right now and it's a really stressful time for that sort of thing i think it always is but i feel like right now it's really uh out of control a bit so i really don't want to put too many expectations on that because i don't know how it's gonna go and i don't know how long it's gonna take but um we'll see hopefully one day fingers crossed but for now we're both so completely satisfied with our current living arrangements our apartment we both really enjoy decorating and getting it very homey and cozy i mean these bookshelves i literally gasp every time i see them i'm still so excited about them so we do have like future plans and hopes but in terms of the timing of that we don't know much like our wedding we don't know we're hopeful we're drove on the road around town yesterday so i'm making progress i'm not quite where i wish i would be but again i'm trying to give myself a little grace a little kindness as i work through my driving but um we're working on it better than i was last year happy i have a license you know there's some positives in there somewhere questions about bts which i'm always down to talk about if you didn't know i love bts big fan started really liking them in march of this year is it only this year regardless i now spend a lot of money on bts related things which you know they got me right where they want me um my bias is gin i clearly love a dad joke and i'm really thrilled and excited about in the soup too um i just yeah they're the best to put it simply my favorite song i really love answer love myself i really love moon of course spring day emotional hard hitter you got pied piper just so many good ones out there yeah so bts is a thing that's in my life has been in my life and i have a whole drawer just full of like photo guards in my desk some questions that are book related bookish related questions which i always love to answer the first is recent favorite high fantasy novels outside of like robin hobb and brandon sanderson i've been really enjoying josiah bancroft which is a new to me author this year i've also read john gwen for the first time this year and i'm looking forward to picking up more books by him i liked how gruesome his like combat scenes were which i appreciate but unrelated to fantasy i'm also excited that i've kind of been reading more genres as well um i want to read more historical fiction going into the fall winter there's a few books that have been kind of on my backlog for a long time which i'm looking forward to getting to this is completely unrelated to the question that was asked but john glenn just i bankrolled two authors that i've been really liking this year that are kind of like new to me anyway um some good books to get you out of a reading slump i feel like a good thriller murder mystery story is always a fun one it's kind of a one shot it's not a series and it also has like an engaging mystery to kind of pull you through stuart turton is a good author for this the devil in the dark water i also think max berry is a good author for this too lexicon is the book of his i read a few years ago and i really liked he also recently came out with a new book which i'm excited to pick up and then lastly i'd recommend truly devious by maureen johnson which i think is a really fun why a murder mystery series but they're very intense and quite the page turner so i honestly think all of those are like really great books to kind of pull you out of a reading slump in my opinion someone asked what happened to the glass coffee table fair question um clay and i gave it to a friend before we left new york we got rid of a few furniture pieces and that was one we were honestly pretty excited to get rid of it's really pretty and it served us for a long time as our living room coffee table but it's such a pain to clean because there's like panels of glass that you have to remove to get in between all the crevices to make sure it's clean and we were just tired so when one of our friends showed interest in it we were like take it we bestow it upon you enjoy windexing it every like three days because you're gonna need to someone asked me if i prefer reading inside or outside i'm very sensitive to temperature so i generally prefer inside i don't really like the sun too much i like cozying up with a good book on a couch and a fuzzy blanket that said a good crisp of all morning is always a really nice environment to read in i will say one thing i will openly and readily admit anytime anyone asks me if i miss anything about new york that i hadn't just mentioned aside from the food and the walking it's fall there's really no real fall in texas like it kind of happens but there's no like beautiful leaf changing moment like pumpkin festival fall harvest situation gilmore girl vibes so i'm just gonna have to kind of artificially get that in my life through decor and just like watching tv which is okay say i deeply miss fall and reading outside during fall is such a treat a few questions about clothing which i'm always happy to talk about clothes favorite items from madewell honestly i feel like if you're gonna buy anything from madewell if you've never done before buy jeans their jeans are amazing they always make me feel great but which i'm sure a lot of people can relate to cut and fit is really important to me my body type can sometimes be a little tricky to find like the perfect fit when it comes to denim and i just feel like madewell always makes jeans that make me feel good and they fit really nice on my body so i would say my favorite item always for madewell is denim though like literally right now i'm gonna head to toe made well like this is from madewell my jeans are from well but if you're gonna buy one thing buy some jeans because you'll have them for years and they also have like a jeans recycling program so if you have old jeans you want to get rid of they'll give you a discount on a new pair of jeans it's great it's just great lots of questions on like a reading routine and schedule and just like how to fit reading in i do have a few videos on this which i'll leave link down below but honestly my biggest tip when it comes to reading is just to kind of schedule in a time of day even if it's like 15 minutes to read and then you'll slowly just build up the habit build up the muscle and you'll find yourself reading a lot more reading before bed or right when you wake up i personally think tends to be the easiest and best times at least for me so that's what i would recommend but also like reading isn't a competition you can read as little or as much as you want and as long as that makes you happy then you're kind of succeeding at whatever goal you're trying to accomplish but if you do want to kind of read more i would just recommend scheduling it in make that calendar invite for yourself and send it to yourself put tick tock away set a timer on tick tock those are my other tips but yeah yeah schedule it and then the last question i'll answer is how did clay and i meet eons ago clay and i actually met seven years ago we met at school we both went to the university of texas and we were actually part of the same like college club we had different degrees and stuff so we never had any of the same classes our school was also very large so the chances of like running into each other very slim but we were both part of something called model un very fun a little nerdy but it was a great time we basically put on conferences for other schools around the state and i not only met clay but i also met so many lifelong friends through this organization so i'm very grateful i signed up for it because it really worked out in the long run um but yeah that's actually how clay and i met we met through a college club alrighty guys that is my life update in q a thank you so much for watching i'm excited thank you again for just like being here watching my videos it means a lot you guys are truly the best but um i will see you soon with another video soon goodbyehi guys it's regan and welcome back to another video i'm here today with another a good author for this too lexicon is the book of his i read a few years ago and i really liked he also recently came out with a new book which i'm excited to pick up and then lastly i'd recommend truly devious by maureen johnson which i think is a really fun why a murder mystery series but they're very intense and quite the page turner so i honestly think all of those are like really great books to kind of pull you out of a reading slump in my opinion someone asked what happened to the glass coffee table fair question um clay and i gave it to a friend before we left new york we got rid of a few furniture pieces and that was one we were honestly pretty excited to get rid of it's really pretty and it served us for a long time as our living room coffee table but it's such a pain to clean because there's like panels of glass that you have to remove to get in between all the crevices to make sure it's clean and we were just tired so when one of our friends showed interest in it we were like take it we bestow it upon you enjoy windexing it every like three days because you're gonna need to someone asked me if i prefer reading inside or outside i'm very sensitive to temperature so i generally prefer inside i don't really like the sun too much i like cozying up with a good book on a couch and a fuzzy blanket that said a good crisp of all morning is always a really nice environment to read in i will say one thing i will openly and readily admit anytime anyone asks me if i miss anything about new york that i hadn't just mentioned aside from the food and the walking it's fall there's really no real fall in texas like it kind of happens but there's no like beautiful leaf changing moment like pumpkin festival fall harvest situation gilmore girl vibes so i'm just gonna have to kind of artificially get that in my life through decor and just like watching tv which is okay say i deeply miss fall and reading outside during fall is such a treat a few questions about clothing which i'm always happy to talk about clothes favorite items from madewell honestly i feel like if you're gonna buy anything from madewell if you've never done before buy jeans their jeans are amazing they always make me feel great but which i'm sure a lot of people can relate to cut and fit is really important to me my body type can sometimes be a little tricky to find like the perfect fit when it comes to denim and i just feel like madewell always makes jeans that make me feel good and they fit really nice on my body so i would say my favorite item always for madewell is denim though like literally right now i'm gonna head to toe made well like this is from madewell my jeans are from well but if you're gonna buy one thing buy some jeans because you'll have them for years and they also have like a jeans recycling program so if you have old jeans you want to get rid of they'll give you a discount on a new pair of jeans it's great it's just great lots of questions on like a reading routine and schedule and just like how to fit reading in i do have a few videos on this which i'll leave link down below but honestly my biggest tip when it comes to reading is just to kind of schedule in a time of day even if it's like 15 minutes to read and then you'll slowly just build up the habit build up the muscle and you'll find yourself reading a lot more reading before bed or right when you wake up i personally think tends to be the easiest and best times at least for me so that's what i would recommend but also like reading isn't a competition you can read as little or as much as you want and as long as that makes you happy then you're kind of succeeding at whatever goal you're trying to accomplish but if you do want to kind of read more i would just recommend scheduling it in make that calendar invite for yourself and send it to yourself put tick tock away set a timer on tick tock those are my other tips but yeah yeah schedule it and then the last question i'll answer is how did clay and i meet eons ago clay and i actually met seven years ago we met at school we both went to the university of texas and we were actually part of the same like college club we had different degrees and stuff so we never had any of the same classes our school was also very large so the chances of like running into each other very slim but we were both part of something called model un very fun a little nerdy but it was a great time we basically put on conferences for other schools around the state and i not only met clay but i also met so many lifelong friends through this organization so i'm very grateful i signed up for it because it really worked out in the long run um but yeah that's actually how clay and i met we met through a college club alrighty guys that is my life update in q a thank you so much for watching i'm excited thank you again for just like being here watching my videos it means a lot you guys are truly the best but um i will see you soon with another video soon goodbye\n"
