A Year of Unread Books: Catching Up with My TBR
As I sit here surrounded by stacks of unread books, I'm reminded of all the stories that are waiting to be told. It's been a year since I've made it a point to catch up on my reading list, and I'm finally taking the plunge. With a newfound determination, I'm diving into six books that have been lingering on my shelf for far too long.
First up is "The Sequel" by Brick Riordan, which I just really need to get to so I can continue with the series and actually start it first and then continue with it because Brick Riordan is the best and I'm very interested to see his take on Norse mythology and to learn more about Norse mythology. So I need to pick this up next.
Next, I have "A Thousand Nights" by EK Johnston, which I've meant to pick up for a really long time now and I just haven't yet. I did start reading it but I was getting confused because it's very different from what I'm used to - the writing style is very unique because there aren't like you're not given names for any of the characters, which really threw me off so I think I just need to go into this again with an open mind because now she has released "Spindle Out", which is a Sleeping Beauty retelling and it's a companion to this one. So I really want to read that one too, so I need to jump into this one first and just do it.
Another book that's been sitting on my shelf for far too long is "Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda" by Becky Albertelli. This book has been meaning to get to forever, and I just haven't done it yet, and I really want to read it because I need some really good LGBT recommendations to give you guys cuz I want to do a video for it so I really just need to read this and I've heard nothing but fabulous things about it. So I think I'm just worried that I'll be disappointed - don't know what was up, but I was just being very weird.
I also have "Carry On" by Rainbow Rowell, which took me a really long time to actually purchase just because I was really apprehensive about it and I think I still am. This is a story that comes out of "Fang Girl", which is one of my favorite books by Rainbow Rowell - actually, it's my favorite book by her and I loved that book. It's one of my favorite books of all time but this is like coming out of that and it's kind of like a Harry Potter-esque world so I'm worried that because I know it's a little bit like Harry Potter and kind of inspired by that, that it's going to bug me the whole time and I'll be making comparisons - I don't know. I'm just really apprehensive about this one but I do really want to pick it up cuz I've heard nothing but fabulous things about it.
My next book is "Vengeance Road" by Aaron Bowman, which I really meant to pick up this fall but I just never got around to it so I guess I'll wait until next fall or I might read in winter - I don't know. This is like a Western story and I've only read one other book that was kind of Western, which was "Walk on Earth a Stranger" by Ray Carson - um, and I read that this past fall but this one I meant to get to just didn't do it but I'm very intrigued to see what a YA Western would be like so I really want to get to this one just taking my time with it as seems to be the trend.
Finally, there's "The Thousandth Floor" by Katherine McGee, which I picked up when it first came out because I love the cover - it thinks the cover is beautiful and I've heard mixed things about the story but I'm very intrigued by the concept cuz it's like a futuristic New York and the skyscraper is like thousands I think or hundreds of stories tall. I feel like it's thousands oh my God, okay well that was a blonde moment but anyways um it's a thousand-story skyscraper and like the concept of it is that there's a bunch of characters on every floor - they're very different and they kind of end up getting their paths intertwined. Just thinking about it sounds really cool so I really do want to pick this up very soon.
These six books have been lingering on my shelf for far too long, but with this newfound determination, I'm ready to dive in and catch up on my reading list. It's time to get started!
