Pinterest for Photographers

tell me I have a new pen there it is so anyway very cool very interesting I think somewhat Innovative page layout the way they do this but most importantly just you know like I said for me it's a way of of really being able to bookmark um well bookmark Pages based on images and you know for instance let me go back to boards real quick I'll wrap it up by saying this but you know some of these things like you know I go into influence and inspiration and stuff like that um sometimes I'll run across you know a very interesting photo uh by a photographer that I'm into that I haven't seen before this is a great place to bookmark that I don't have to go back and remember whereas you know the delicious method or kipt or any of those those are fine for certain things but for images I can't see what the images were so this is and I think the speed at which you're able to view through these is much faster than the rate at which you're able to speed through um you know bookmarking website in the traditional standard way so anyway a lot about Pinterest the other thing I think that's important about Pinterest that is amazing to me and I know different people or you know people with more conventional uses of Pinterest probably have a different Target in mind of what they're going for for instance people who like to shop might put products in here you know you're remodeling your home you can bookmark ideas for wallpaper you know there's there's obviously a lot of wonderful uses like that um but Pinterest is I mean I think some of the numbers are running is the number two Social Network right now which which kind of blows my mind so whether or not you may have found any of this interesting that I've been telling you today I think it's something we all need to be checking out for various reasons particularly if you're a photographer and I think this is important um one other thing that I will show you that I like about Pinterest before we go is there is a search box and so for instance if you want to search for a photographer so let's I'm going to search for hry I can't talk and type obviously and let's hit search and it's going to search all of Pinterest and voila look all these Briston images here's one that I'm not familiar with these uh people dancing at a ball hey you know what that's awesome I'm going to repin that so let's go let's say repen in and I'm going to go pop it on I have got an HCB there it is h c b board just dedicated to him because he's one of my big influences and it gets addictive you can go in here and follow other people and follow the board and follow you know whatever um it's a very cool place to explore and check things out and like I said I really just I can't recommend this enough it is totally cool look at this see look I'm already getting um sister wolf honor C Ireland 1952 let's repin that one and let's go HCB other cool thing is it remembers what board you were last working on so if you're working on a board specifically um it's a great way to keep track of that and uh sorry I'm supposed to stop this podcast but I'm I'm just still into this so anyway as you can see this is extremely useful um so go check it out that is Pinterest.com and uh next week we'll get back into our composition a little bit more we'll come back with that and until then let me know if you got any questions on anything remember the photography show the audio show that I do with my friend Wade Griff rith we are back up and running and you can find that on iTunes or if you go to the web page for this show which is the artof photography. TV I will have everything linked up there but we would really appreciate you checking out the show it's a show we did a couple years ago we were pretty successful with it but we kind of stopped doing it because schedules got busy and we couldn't find a time to record it but we are back and we are committed and every well we record that on Sunday so usually it's up by Sunday nights uh as is this show is up on Wednesdays so anyway give it a shot check it out you can search for the photography show in iTunes as well if you want to listen to it there and uh it makes your commute a more fun thing to do when you're hearing to goons talk about photography and sorry I'm still Penning I got to get back to Penning let me know if you have any questions go pen yourself I'll see you guys later thanks for watching

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey everybody welcome back once again to another episode of The Art of Photography my name is Ted Forbes today we're talking about Pinterest now I don't cover social media and web services a lot on this show unless it relates to building a website which we've talked about a lot before but Pinterest is something I've started to use recently and I have mentioned it a couple times on the show because with all the composition stuff that we're doing um I mentioned I am keeping bookmarks and Pinterest uh to look at but I haven't ever really talked about it and why I think it's important for photographers and I want to show you a little bit about how it works today cuz I really think you know as a photographer and your own inspiration what it is that you're into this is a service you really can't ignore um the first time I ever heard of Pinterest um it was described to me as being like a way that you could bookmark items that you want to shop for and make wish lists and that sounded like the last thing I was interested in doing um I you know that's just not something I do a lot of on the web I I shop on the web certainly but I'm not interested in bookmarking furniture or clothes or shoes or whatever that's just you know uh not what I'm into um however uh a designer friend of mine was telling me their take on Pinterest and they were saying don't think of it like that just think of it as like image bookmarking and after checking it out I this is something that I just like it's amazing bookmarking Services have existed online before if you've been online a long time like I have uh you know we used to just bookmark everything in the browser well the disadvantage there is that you if you're on another computer you don't have access to your bookmarks so if I bookmark something at home and then I go to the office the next day and it's something I need to refer to and I need to email s a link or something you know anyway um a couple years later uh services like delicious started coming out which was later bought by Yahoo and delicious I used for a long time and still do I think delicious is great for bookmarking information uh there's never been a really good way to bookmark images and I think this is something I didn't realize that I was missing until I came across Pinterest and basically what you do is same thing you do with delicious and some of these other services is you install something in the bookmark tab there and so you know okay if I want to bookmark an image on this page that I found I hit the thing it asks you which image do you want to bookmark and then it goes and puts it in your collection and you can store different collections in these like we've done with our composition episodes uh you can you there different ways to sort this out you can tag your information you can share it and you can discover new stuff on Pinterest and I think for me just as for my own study my own education for my own inspiration uh it's amazing because I've never had a way to just bookmark images and be able to Surf through them and I'm if I'm not describing this very well we're going to look at it in just a second so have no fear uh but anyway I really think Pinterest is essential and it it's it's sort of like in a way and I I think the word curation is overused nowadays but that's what it is is you're basically curating collections of images that you want to be able to refer back to again one day and this is really important as a photographer I think just as important as going to a museum or going to an art gallery and seeing an exhibition of work that's particularly interesting I think this is a way of sort of doing that online a little bit and the advantage that you have here is if I go to an exhibition um it's it's there in the moment which you know You could argue is a very important too and then it's over and unless I buy a catalog or whatever then I you know don't have anything on the exhibition to go off of other than that memory of it and I think this is different because you're able to bookmark things online you're able to refer back to them um and it's a great way to discover new work because as you start to friend people much like you do in any social network um you will be exposed to new stuff in image collections that you haven't seen before and this is really important so anyway let's go over to the computer let's have a look and uh I want to show you Pinterest okay so in showing you what Pinterest is I'll show you kind of a classic problem that I'm sure we've all had over the years and if you haven't thought about this maybe you'll get something out of this today um but uh anyway you know I've got a web page here it's a site on Tumblr actually it's got some really amazing photography on it there's some really neat things on here and traditionally the way the web is set up we all know that you can create a bookmark okay so if I can bookmark this and basically my browser stores a big queue of bookmarks that I can use to refer back to sites later well this is fine but the problem is is if I bookmark it on this computer and I'm on my laptop back at home or something like that I can't access it unless you have some kind of bookmark syncing and sure there are companies like apple who offer that I found uh in my personal use with those that they create duplicates and it just has not worked well for me um if I'm on a computer I've never been on before I want to be able to access my bookmarks to stuff so I want it to be easy like that well as the web evolved a little bit years ago uh service launched called delicious which has been bought and sold a few times but delicious is pretty good um there's an alternative to it um English company makes called Ki ki.com I'll put links in the show notes to All these and these are bookmarking things and Kip's a little cool well they're kind of the same thing now uh but Kip is really strong it's the one I like the most but I can put things in little folders and add tags to them so if I have WordPress stuff I got to keep track of I have an inbox on here all that stuff and so it keeps track of my bookmarks allows me to sort them I can search through here and delicious.com doeses the same thing um and delicious like I said it's been bought and sold a few times and they're really trying to make this better um and I haven't used it in a while but I still have my account here and you know it's certainly worth checking out from time to time the problem with these is is a lot of times there's something like this wonderful photo blog I can't remember the name of it I bookmarked it 5 years ago and I don't know what it is and this doesn't work for me this is where Pinterest comes in the picture because Pinterest basically is image bookmarking so I'm going to go over here to Pinterest and let's look at my Pinterest account here for a second sorry let's bring this back and let's look at pens so you log into Pinterest you create an account and these are little bookmarks that I've made and I'm going to show you how to do these in just a second and how to set this up to make it really easy to use but I can go through and this is just a long list this is like all the bookmarks you know in my inbox and kipped or right in my delicious account and these are images that I've bookmarked and I've talked about Pinterest a lot on the show because if you want to kind of get a preview of what I'm doing week after week um for the tutorial stuff um on composition I'm keeping composition boards in here and let me explain what a board is a pen is basically just a bookmarked bookmarked image sorry it's hard to say and let's go back up to the top here and Pinterest allows you to create what they call boards and these are just little collection of pens so I've created boards for each show we've done in the composition series and this allows me to for instance when I'm about to do a show on rule of thirds I go do my research online and I'm able to bookmark via images and in the last couple shows that we've done on this you guys have seen me actually go through and I've just been using my board and showing my images that way is kind of a slideshow presentation so I can open these up um and what's cool about this too um let me open one up like for instance uh a bra s photo and I'm trying to remember where I got this CU maybe on the website there were some other cool images well if you click the image again it does link up to the actual website that you got it from which was guardian.co.uk and uh so it does reference the original article and yeah there were some other neat images on here um so anyway all this to say I'll go back over um this is what Pinterest is so good at um you have pens which are basically just bookmarked images that are resized and put together in this kind of cool flowing format and then you're able to put those together into what they call boards and as I said before boards are collections of images and it also has a social component to it too and I like this because um if you have repinned somebody or if you want to follow someone uh if I want to follow someone when you go to the Pinterest homepage this is kind of how it starts off it gives you social activity and then it also gives you and you it's a hodgepodge sometimes people pin different things not just photography all the time and you find some really interesting unique stuff from people you follow and I follow a lot of people who do art and um graphic design sculpture photography the whole the whole gamut so anyway so lots of new stuff to kind of keep aware of uh you can go visit sites that these came from and this is just a really nice experience on the internet I think um which is kind of interesting I thought these were M Pace Gallery in New York has put a bunch of um Su Moto photos on there anyway um I'm going to show you how this works and the best way to set it up but that's basically an overview of what Pinterest does and I really have taken a liking to the service recently mainly because there's just something it's kind of like Scrapbooking for photographers in a way um you know rather than trying to make notes or keep you know you can just keep collections of things and I've got boards in here for inspiration I mean it's all public you can dig through it if you want I've got weird things I've got shows that I've done um you know recently I've been into David bernat's work um photojournalist um known for a lot of his Bob Marley shots that he did and he's just got some amazing shots of sports and so anyway it's a great way to collect these and then when I'm trying to refer back to David Bernett and I'm trying to remember there was something that he did it was a technique that I wanted to kind of think of about expanding on and my own work or something like that I can come here and I've got it all collected so this is a great way to work and a great way to collect images so we've talked about what Pinterest is and now what I want to do is give you some extra stuff here and show you how to probably use this in the most efficient way so you can get more out of it um okay so what you're going to do is when you've created an account and this is I'm just on my pens page here um You probably won't have any pens straight away and you want to start collecting stuff um the one thing you want to know about is if you go up here on the top menu and you click on your name here so I'm going to click on Ted I'm going to go down uh actually not going to click on mine I'm going to go under about and the second link down is the penet button I'm going to click on that it brings me to a page and here's the pen it button and I need to add this to my bookmarks bar now I'm using Safari on the Mac I'm going to show you a really cool um thing you can do here so if I collect if I grab pen it and not only I'm I going to bring it up to the bookmarks bar I'm going to put it first in line here okay we'll go ahead and say return we're good so you can see I know this is kind of probably hard but up at the top you have penet and then I have a couple other things on my bookmarks bar and they're all kind of bookmarking um tools rather than bookmarks necessarily so anyway the penet is what you're going to use now if I go back over to this blog that I wanted to um bookmark an image from basically I have two choices I can go up here and I can click pen it and it's going to create a bunch of thumbnails and it's going to say hey which one did you want to pin uh let's cancel that for a second the other thing is because I'm on Safari I don't know if you knew you could do this but on the Mac if you're on Safari and I believe this works on Windows to but on the Mac it definitely works if you hold command and then the number one because it's the first one in the line the second one's number two number three but it's command one will bring up the will'll do the same thing as hitting that button uh if you're on Windows and you're on Safar you might try control one and see if it works um I can't verify that right this second but anyway so what we're going to do is we're going to actually bookmark one of these and we're going to pin it to our pinboard so I'm going to go command one and then I'm going to select the image I wanted to use which is this diver and it gives you a space where you can credit you can make notes Etc um I'm going to go here and I'll just leave it if you don't have a board already created you can go all the way down to the bottom and you can say create new board and it will create a new board for you also so you want to keep these organized I'm just going to put this on my awesomeness board let's go ahead and say pen it it's going to take just a second and it's going to say success it was pinned so I now I can go command W to close that window and I can continue to surf the Internet and uh you know when you come across an image that you want to bookmark for whatever reason then you all I have to do is say command one on the keyboard pick it and go put in osus say save it so this makes it really quick to do especially if you're using command keys or hot keys to do it uh actually I really that one bigger so I'm going to actually bookmark it from this side so I show you delete a pin too so let's say command one pen it done and we're good now if I go back over to the pant site these are now bookmarks so if I click under my name and I go down to you can go to boards or pens either one I'm going to go to pens and there they are the first three in here now this is a duplicate and I really wanted to link to the actual page and not that list of thumbnails so what I'm going to do is I'm going to say edit this pin and I'm just going to go up here and say delete pin and say delete pin is successful and we're done okay now the cool thing about this is it allows you to edit stuff so you can go make notes you can make adjustments um and it makes Pinterest really easy and worthwhile to use I think if you can set it up in a way so what you're doing is just very easily able to bookmark stuff um this is cool when some friends of yours tweet links to cool images and stuff um you can make a board out of that and just get in the habit of of bookmarking and Pinterest becomes very handy and very useful another thing if you go in here let's go back to the penet button there is a bunch of stuff over here that actually does make some sense they're talking about what is Pinterest um Pinterest is a virtual board what can you do with it uh pen etiquette and I think this is you know I think it's at least worth mentioning because when Pinterest came out those of you who have heard about it may have heard it when it was in making news but this does and I'll be honest with you it does create some concerns of copyrights they are taking an image and linking it from another site so there's a difference I post technically between having it for view this way and stealing the image now here's the deal um I really don't have a problem with it as long as you're being authentic and you're crediting your sources and making sure and you would probably want to credit your sources anyway if you can simply because you know if somebody pinned a bunch of your images you'd probably want your name on them they will link back to the original source which is cool um but you know all that decide I don't want to get into a political debate on this other than say that there is some pen etiquette and you know you just want to be able to credit your sources and all because all this is public for the most part and people can search your pens and follow you and stuff like that anyway all that to say let me show you another thing and let's I'm going let's talk about repenning so let's go to the homepage and here's some people who have penned stuff and here this is bizarre but here's a ears of French prisoners image okay that's really tripped out um let's repen it so what I'm going to do is when I say repen it says basically okay what board do you want it on and I'm going to go put it in one of my boards and we'll just leave everything on the awesomeness board right now and I'll leave the caption as it is but I could change that if I want let's go aad and say pen it and now I have repinned this image and it may give me some suggestions to some other stuff now when you repin somebody it's a little bit like following them you can also follow them also but Pinterest is kind of tracking what kinds of things you're into and what kinds of people you end up repinning a lot and it does that to make image suggestions for you as well which I think is really nice so that's what's repinning is the other thing too is people on here see these this is just my when you go to the Pinterest homepage and I'm logged into my account these L latest two images are ones that I've put in here but if you look around these are other people that I've you know checked out I've been into um I'm following and so when you follow somebody it's going to keep you um you know updated with their images so you could follow me I could follow you and then we know what the others are posting and it tell me I have a new pen there it is so anyway very cool very interesting I think somewhat Innovative page layout the way they do this but most importantly just you know like I said for me it's a way of of really being able to bookmark um well bookmark Pages based on images and you know for instance let me go back to boards real quick I'll wrap it up by saying this but you know some of these things like you know I go into influence and inspiration and stuff like that um sometimes I'll run across you know a very interesting photo uh by a photographer that I'm into that I haven't seen before this is a great place to bookmark that I don't have to go back and remember whereas you know the delicious method or kipt or any of those those are fine for certain things but for images I can't see what the images were so this is and I think the speed at which you're able to view through these is much faster than the rate at which you're able to speed through um you know bookmarking website in the traditional standard way so anyway a lot about Pinterest the other thing I think that's important about Pinterest that is amazing to me and I know different people or you know people with more conventional uses of Pinterest probably have a different Target in mind of what they're going for for instance people who like to shop might put products in here you know you're remodeling your home you can bookmark ideas for wallpaper you know there's there's obviously a lot of wonderful uses like that um but Pinterest is I mean I think some of the numbers are running is the number two Social Network right now which which kind of blows my mind so whether or not you may have found any of this interesting that I've been telling you today I think it's something we all need to be checking out for various reasons particularly if you're a photographer and I think this is important um one other thing that I will show you that I like about Pinterest before we go is there is a search box and so for instance if you want to search for a photographer so let's I'm going to search for hry I can't talk and type obviously and let's hit search and it's going to search all of Pinterest and voila look all these Briston images here's one that I'm not familiar with these uh people dancing at a ball hey you know what that's awesome I'm going to repin that so let's go let's say repen in and I'm going to go pop it on I have got an HCB there it is h c b board just dedicated to him because he's one of my big influences and it gets addictive you can go in here and follow other people and follow the board and follow you know whatever um it's a very cool place to explore and check things out and like I said I really just I can't recommend this enough it is totally cool look at this see look I'm already getting um sister wolf honor C Ireland 1952 let's repin that one and let's go HCB other cool thing is it remembers what board you were last working on so if you're working on a board specifically um it's a great way to keep track of that and uh sorry I'm supposed to stop this podcast but I'm I'm just still into this so anyway as you can see this is extremely useful um so go check it out that is Pinterest.com and uh next week we'll get back into our composition a little bit more we'll come back with that and until then let me know if you got any questions on anything remember the photography show the audio show that I do with my friend Wade Griff rith we are back up and running and you can find that on iTunes or if you go to the web page for this show which is the artof photography. TV I will have everything linked up there but we would really appreciate you checking out the show it's a show we did a couple years ago we were pretty successful with it but we kind of stopped doing it because schedules got busy and we couldn't find a time to record it but we are back and we are committed and every well we record that on Sunday so usually it's up by Sunday nights uh as is this show is up on Wednesdays so anyway give it a shot check it out you can search for the photography show in iTunes as well if you want to listen to it there and uh it makes your commute a more fun thing to do when you're hearing to goons talk about photography and sorry I'm still Penning I got to get back to Penning let me know if you have any questions go pen yourself I'll see you guys later thanks for watchinghey everybody welcome back once again to another episode of The Art of Photography my name is Ted Forbes today we're talking about Pinterest now I don't cover social media and web services to do a show on rule of thirds I go do my research online and I'm able to bookmark via images and in the last couple shows that we've done on this you guys have seen me actually go through and I've just been using my board and showing my images that way is kind of a slideshow presentation so I can open these up um and what's cool about this too um let me open one up like for instance uh a bra s photo and I'm trying to remember where I got this CU maybe on the website there were some other cool images well if you click the image again it does link up to the actual website that you got it from which was guardian.co.uk and uh so it does reference the original article and yeah there were some other neat images on here um so anyway all this to say I'll go back over um this is what Pinterest is so good at um you have pens which are basically just bookmarked images that are resized and put together in this kind of cool flowing format and then you're able to put those together into what they call boards and as I said before boards are collections of images and it also has a social component to it too and I like this because um if you have repinned somebody or if you want to follow someone uh if I want to follow someone when you go to the Pinterest homepage this is kind of how it starts off it gives you social activity and then it also gives you and you it's a hodgepodge sometimes people pin different things not just photography all the time and you find some really interesting unique stuff from people you follow and I follow a lot of people who do art and um graphic design sculpture photography the whole the whole gamut so anyway so lots of new stuff to kind of keep aware of uh you can go visit sites that these came from and this is just a really nice experience on the internet I think um which is kind of interesting I thought these were M Pace Gallery in New York has put a bunch of um Su Moto photos on there anyway um I'm going to show you how this works and the best way to set it up but that's basically an overview of what Pinterest does and I really have taken a liking to the service recently mainly because there's just something it's kind of like Scrapbooking for photographers in a way um you know rather than trying to make notes or keep you know you can just keep collections of things and I've got boards in here for inspiration I mean it's all public you can dig through it if you want I've got weird things I've got shows that I've done um you know recently I've been into David bernat's work um photojournalist um known for a lot of his Bob Marley shots that he did and he's just got some amazing shots of sports and so anyway it's a great way to collect these and then when I'm trying to refer back to David Bernett and I'm trying to remember there was something that he did it was a technique that I wanted to kind of think of about expanding on and my own work or something like that I can come here and I've got it all collected so this is a great way to work and a great way to collect images so we've talked about what Pinterest is and now what I want to do is give you some extra stuff here and show you how to probably use this in the most efficient way so you can get more out of it um okay so what you're going to do is when you've created an account and this is I'm just on my pens page here um You probably won't have any pens straight away and you want to start collecting stuff um the one thing you want to know about is if you go up here on the top menu and you click on your name here so I'm going to click on Ted I'm going to go down uh actually not going to click on mine I'm going to go under about and the second link down is the penet button I'm going to click on that it brings me to a page and here's the pen it button and I need to add this to my bookmarks bar now I'm using Safari on the Mac I'm going to show you a really cool um thing you can do here so if I collect if I grab pen it and not only I'm I going to bring it up to the bookmarks bar I'm going to put it first in line here okay we'll go ahead and say return we're good so you can see I know this is kind of probably hard but up at the top you have penet and then I have a couple other things on my bookmarks bar and they're all kind of bookmarking um tools rather than bookmarks necessarily so anyway the penet is what you're going to use now if I go back over to this blog that I wanted to um bookmark an image from basically I have two choices I can go up here and I can click pen it and it's going to create a bunch of thumbnails and it's going to say hey which one did you want to pin uh let's cancel that for a second the other thing is because I'm on Safari I don't know if you knew you could do this but on the Mac if you're on Safari and I believe this works on Windows to but on the Mac it definitely works if you hold command and then the number one because it's the first one in the line the second one's number two number three but it's command one will bring up the will'll do the same thing as hitting that button uh if you're on Windows and you're on Safar you might try control one and see if it works um I can't verify that right this second but anyway so what we're going to do is we're going to actually bookmark one of these and we're going to pin it to our pinboard so I'm going to go command one and then I'm going to select the image I wanted to use which is this diver and it gives you a space where you can credit you can make notes Etc um I'm going to go here and I'll just leave it if you don't have a board already created you can go all the way down to the bottom and you can say create new board and it will create a new board for you also so you want to keep these organized I'm just going to put this on my awesomeness board let's go ahead and say pen it it's going to take just a second and it's going to say success it was pinned so I now I can go command W to close that window and I can continue to surf the Internet and uh you know when you come across an image that you want to bookmark for whatever reason then you all I have to do is say command one on the keyboard pick it and go put in osus say save it so this makes it really quick to do especially if you're using command keys or hot keys to do it uh actually I really that one bigger so I'm going to actually bookmark it from this side so I show you delete a pin too so let's say command one pen it done and we're good now if I go back over to the pant site these are now bookmarks so if I click under my name and I go down to you can go to boards or pens either one I'm going to go to pens and there they are the first three in here now this is a duplicate and I really wanted to link to the actual page and not that list of thumbnails so what I'm going to do is I'm going to say edit this pin and I'm just going to go up here and say delete pin and say delete pin is successful and we're done okay now the cool thing about this is it allows you to edit stuff so you can go make notes you can make adjustments um and it makes Pinterest really easy and worthwhile to use I think if you can set it up in a way so what you're doing is just very easily able to bookmark stuff um this is cool when some friends of yours tweet links to cool images and stuff um you can make a board out of that and just get in the habit of of bookmarking and Pinterest becomes very handy and very useful another thing if you go in here let's go back to the penet button there is a bunch of stuff over here that actually does make some sense they're talking about what is Pinterest um Pinterest is a virtual board what can you do with it uh pen etiquette and I think this is you know I think it's at least worth mentioning because when Pinterest came out those of you who have heard about it may have heard it when it was in making news but this does and I'll be honest with you it does create some concerns of copyrights they are taking an image and linking it from another site so there's a difference I post technically between having it for view this way and stealing the image now here's the deal um I really don't have a problem with it as long as you're being authentic and you're crediting your sources and making sure and you would probably want to credit your sources anyway if you can simply because you know if somebody pinned a bunch of your images you'd probably want your name on them they will link back to the original source which is cool um but you know all that decide I don't want to get into a political debate on this other than say that there is some pen etiquette and you know you just want to be able to credit your sources and all because all this is public for the most part and people can search your pens and follow you and stuff like that anyway all that to say let me show you another thing and let's I'm going let's talk about repenning so let's go to the homepage and here's some people who have penned stuff and here this is bizarre but here's a ears of French prisoners image okay that's really tripped out um let's repen it so what I'm going to do is when I say repen it says basically okay what board do you want it on and I'm going to go put it in one of my boards and we'll just leave everything on the awesomeness board right now and I'll leave the caption as it is but I could change that if I want let's go aad and say pen it and now I have repinned this image and it may give me some suggestions to some other stuff now when you repin somebody it's a little bit like following them you can also follow them also but Pinterest is kind of tracking what kinds of things you're into and what kinds of people you end up repinning a lot and it does that to make image suggestions for you as well which I think is really nice so that's what's repinning is the other thing too is people on here see these this is just my when you go to the Pinterest homepage and I'm logged into my account these L latest two images are ones that I've put in here but if you look around these are other people that I've you know checked out I've been into um I'm following and so when you follow somebody it's going to keep you um you know updated with their images so you could follow me I could follow you and then we know what the others are posting and it tell me I have a new pen there it is so anyway very cool very interesting I think somewhat Innovative page layout the way they do this but most importantly just you know like I said for me it's a way of of really being able to bookmark um well bookmark Pages based on images and you know for instance let me go back to boards real quick I'll wrap it up by saying this but you know some of these things like you know I go into influence and inspiration and stuff like that um sometimes I'll run across you know a very interesting photo uh by a photographer that I'm into that I haven't seen before this is a great place to bookmark that I don't have to go back and remember whereas you know the delicious method or kipt or any of those those are fine for certain things but for images I can't see what the images were so this is and I think the speed at which you're able to view through these is much faster than the rate at which you're able to speed through um you know bookmarking website in the traditional standard way so anyway a lot about Pinterest the other thing I think that's important about Pinterest that is amazing to me and I know different people or you know people with more conventional uses of Pinterest probably have a different Target in mind of what they're going for for instance people who like to shop might put products in here you know you're remodeling your home you can bookmark ideas for wallpaper you know there's there's obviously a lot of wonderful uses like that um but Pinterest is I mean I think some of the numbers are running is the number two Social Network right now which which kind of blows my mind so whether or not you may have found any of this interesting that I've been telling you today I think it's something we all need to be checking out for various reasons particularly if you're a photographer and I think this is important um one other thing that I will show you that I like about Pinterest before we go is there is a search box and so for instance if you want to search for a photographer so let's I'm going to search for hry I can't talk and type obviously and let's hit search and it's going to search all of Pinterest and voila look all these Briston images here's one that I'm not familiar with these uh people dancing at a ball hey you know what that's awesome I'm going to repin that so let's go let's say repen in and I'm going to go pop it on I have got an HCB there it is h c b board just dedicated to him because he's one of my big influences and it gets addictive you can go in here and follow other people and follow the board and follow you know whatever um it's a very cool place to explore and check things out and like I said I really just I can't recommend this enough it is totally cool look at this see look I'm already getting um sister wolf honor C Ireland 1952 let's repin that one and let's go HCB other cool thing is it remembers what board you were last working on so if you're working on a board specifically um it's a great way to keep track of that and uh sorry I'm supposed to stop this podcast but I'm I'm just still into this so anyway as you can see this is extremely useful um so go check it out that is Pinterest.com and uh next week we'll get back into our composition a little bit more we'll come back with that and until then let me know if you got any questions on anything remember the photography show the audio show that I do with my friend Wade Griff rith we are back up and running and you can find that on iTunes or if you go to the web page for this show which is the artof photography. TV I will have everything linked up there but we would really appreciate you checking out the show it's a show we did a couple years ago we were pretty successful with it but we kind of stopped doing it because schedules got busy and we couldn't find a time to record it but we are back and we are committed and every well we record that on Sunday so usually it's up by Sunday nights uh as is this show is up on Wednesdays so anyway give it a shot check it out you can search for the photography show in iTunes as well if you want to listen to it there and uh it makes your commute a more fun thing to do when you're hearing to goons talk about photography and sorry I'm still Penning I got to get back to Penning let me know if you have any questions go pen yourself I'll see you guys later thanks for watching\n"
