What is a Widget on Android?
A widget is a program or application that actually runs on your home screen without having to be opened up or attached to an application. For example, I have a weather widget right here which tells me the weather outside of my city and gives me the time. This widget is not necessarily attached to any application other than being the widget itself. However, if I tap on it, I can get more functions such as my 5-day forecast.
Widgets come in different forms and can be either standalone or attached to applications. For instance, a Score Center or ESPN score center widget will tell me the scores of the game as they are happening, but if I want more information, I can just tap on it and it will open up the ESPN score center app. In this case, the widget is tied to an application.
Another example of a widget that is attached to an application is the power controls widget. This widget lets me control my wireless toggles without having to go through the settings. For instance, if I want to turn Bluetooth on and GPS off, I can do so without actually going all the way to the settings by scrolling down to the wireless controls.
On the other hand, there are also standalone widgets that do not rely on any applications. For example, a music widget has a music player that you can open up by scrolling over to the music section and tapping it right here. Instead of having to go through the steps of opening the music player app, I can simply swipe over to my home screen that has this music widget and play the song "Right Now" by pressing play.
This music widget also allows me to pause or skip to the next song. This is a great functionality that makes it a lot more convenient to use. Additionally, I have other widgets such as YouTube that allow me to look through my subscriptions by flicking through videos if I find one appealing. If I want to make a note for myself, I can also use the Color Note app with this widget.
Furthermore, I have a widget for my bookmarks that allows me to go straight to my favorite website without having to open up my web browser and type in the URL or go through my bookmarks. This is a great feature that saves me time and makes it easier to access my desired websites.
Lastly, there are also dictionary widgets that allow me to look up words or definitions directly from my home screen. For instance, if I'm trying to look up the word "dog" or its definition, I can do so right from my home screen by typing in the word and hitting enter. This is a lot faster than having to go through my app list or tapping on the dictionary app.
In conclusion, widgets are a great feature that offers a lot of convenience and functionality on Android devices. They come in different forms, such as standalone or attached to applications, and can be used to control various aspects of our lives, from weather forecasts to music playback and even accessing websites directly from our home screens.

does it's not necessarily attached to any application other than being the widget itself of course if I tap on it I can get more functions such as my 5-day forecast but then there are some widgets that are actually attached to application so for example this Score Center or ESPN score center widget will tell me the scores of the game as they're happening but if I wanted more information I could just tap on it and it will actually open up the ESPN score center app so in that case it is tied to an application but this power controls widget for example um lets me control my wireless toggles without having to actually go to the settings so for example if I wanted to turn Bluetooth on and turn GPS off I could do so without actually having to go all the way to settings scrolling all the way to the wireless controls and you know turning them on and off from here so definitely a lot more convenient uh having a widget on your home screen instead of having to uh go through the settings uh
