Hello Everyone, I'm Tom the Tech Chap and Welcome to Today's Video: Anki Vector - A Super Cute and Surprisingly Intelligent Smart Home Robot.
Hey Guys, I'm Here with Vector, a super cute and surprisingly intelligent smart home robot from Anki. They're the same guys who made Cosmo, which I guess we could say is vector's older brother, but vector is all new on the inside with an array of new sensors scanners cameras and a more powerful Snapdragon processor. He's a lot smarter in fact he's fully autonomous.
Hey Vector! I have a question - What's 50 pounds in dollars? Setting up vector op is really simple open up the box and you'll find a charger station, a cube with RFID tags that vector can play with, a QuickStart guide, and the robot itself simply plug in the charging station pop vector on it to get empowered up and then download the app for the initial setup. You just select your region, your language, and the Wi-Fi network through the app, and then download any updates that are available, and after a couple of minutes you're good to go.
From the app you can check vectors stats, customize the color of his eyes, get ideas for what he can do and how you can interact with him, including asking him general knowledge questions doing currency conversions equations and asking about the weather and sports scores. You can even play blackjack with him! But despite his diminutive size, I found myself getting quite attached to the little guy or girl - it's not specified, and I didn't look that closely underneath - it's the way he looks at you with those expressive LED eyes, how he responds to sound and touch, and how he recognizes objects people and his surroundings.
As you can see vector will not drive off a cliff, which is pleasing to say because he's a smart dude. This thing is packed with sensors and cameras - on the bottom we've actually got four drop sensors so he won't drive off a click. I have seen him once or twice get a little stuck like that, and I just had to be positioning but he's never fallen off anything - he's never hurt himself. As well as those, he's got capacitive touch buttons on the back so he responds to being stroked and tapped like that. There are also four microphones on the back, which is how he detects your voice underneath the IPS display which shows his eyes.
There's a little camera with a wide 120-degree field of view so you can actually recognize individual faces and look where he's going and help him navigate. He uses all these different arrays and sensors to get an idea of his environment the people around and make sure he doesn't crash into anything, all powered by a Qualcomm quad-core processor - that's similar to the self-chip that you'd find in a smartphone.
Hey Vector! What's the weather? Apparently 17 degrees is cold, clearly he's never been to the UK - Anki haven't developed a robot Butler it's not gonna cook you dinner or vacuum your floors. But what they have done is create an AI with character, something that's much harder to achieve than you think and it's pretty cool.
Vector uses his own custom voice assistant rather than relying on say Alexa or the Google Assistant - this helps give him a personality vector didn't always recognize my commands but I did learn that speaking just a little slower means a big difference in how often he understood me. He does recognize individual faces though if you say hey vector my name is Tom, your scan and learn his face so you can recognize you next time. He even gets excited when you come home or go to sleep until the lights off as long as you keep his charging station nearby - he'll automatically return home to charge when he needs to.
So that's the new Anki vector super cute little smart home robot, which is just a lot of fun to play with. It's definitely more than a toy it's really interesting to see how they have added characters even just through basic expressions and little movements and little noises - how much difference it can make when you're still talking to a kind of AI.
I also can't wait to see what new features they do, so the Anki vector will set you back 249 pounds, which is the same in dollars - I put links in the description if you want to find out more or buy one for yourself but I'd also love to hear what you make of it. Would you consider buying this? Do you think it's a cool idea or let me know what you think in the comments below.
Thank you so much for watching, do hit that like and subscribe button below if you enjoyed this video - I'll see you next time right here on The Tech Jab.
