Unboxing the Kingston HyperX Premium SSD
Hello and welcome back to my channel! I'm Ranjit from tech.com, and today we're going to unbox this premium SSD from Kingston Technologies. This premium grade SSD is known as HyperX, and it's based on the SATA 3 controller. Let's take a closer look at the box before we start the unboxing.
The first important thing with this SSD is that it's based on the SATA 3 controller, which has a bandwidth of about 6 GBS per second compared to SATA 2 controllers, which have a bandwidth of just about 3 gbits per second. For the higher speeds that this SSD offers, it takes advantage of the SATA 3 controller. Generally, SATA 2 based SSD drives like this one can only reach speeds of around 250 MB/s, but this Kingston HyperX Drive can take advantage of SATA 3 and support speeds up to 555 MB/s, with actual read speeds of about 510 MB/s.
To take advantage of these high speeds, your motherboard needs to support the SATA 3 controller. The best speeds that you can get right now are with the native Intel implementation of SATA 3 that comes with modern Sandy Bridge motherboards. There are other third-party SATA 3 controllers available as well, but you will get the best performance with the native Intel SATA 3 controllers that are offered on Sandy Bridge motherboards.
The capacity of this drive is 120 GB, and we also have an additional model available in 240 GB. This SSD drive is known as Kingston HyperX, and it's based on the San Force controller. It comes with a 3-year warranty, which shows that Kingston Technologies stands behind its products.
Now, let's take a closer look at the other side of the box. As this is a complete upgrade kit, we get the SSD itself, a USB enclosure, a 2.5 to 3.5 in Drive bracket, SATA cables, data migration software, and a screwdriver. We're thankful to Kingston Technologies for providing this SSD for review.
Now, let's open up the seal and take a look inside the box. The first thing that we see is the HyperX SSD itself, which I'll take out and put on the side for now. Next to it, we have the 2.5 to 3.5 in Drive enclosure, software CD, optional Drive enclosure USB cable, SATA cables, and a screwdriver. It comes with the Kingston HyperX logo embedded, which looks pretty cool.
On the back side of the drive, there are four mounting screws. Two are located over here, and two are located over there. On the back, it simply states that the drive is 120 GB, and on this end, you attach the power cable and SATA cable. I'll be testing and reviewing this drive shortly, so if you aren't subscribed to my channel, please click on the Subscribe button to get subscribed.
