280HP VW Golf MK1 TDI _ REVIEW goes WRONG on AUTOBAHN!

**Article Based on Video Transcription: A POV Review of Yella’s VW Golf 1 with a 1.9 TDI Engine Swap**

### Introduction

Welcome to this detailed first-person review of Yella’s VW Golf 1, a classic car that has been modified and tuned to perfection. In this article, we will take you through the journey of exploring this unique vehicle, from its stunning exterior to its powerful engine and everything in between. The car, with its retro charm and modern tweaks, is a testament to the engineering prowess of older cars and how they can be transformed into something truly special.

### Exterior: A Blend of Retro and Modern Beauty

The first thing that catches your eye when you look at this VW Golf 1 is its stunning exterior. The car is painted in a gorgeous Brown Porsche color, which gives it a sophisticated and timeless appeal. While I’m not entirely sure about the exact name of the color, there’s no denying how cool it looks on this classic car. The metallic brown paint job adds a touch of elegance that makes this Golf 1 stand out.

Next up are the wheels—these are Audi A8 wheels from the American model, and they have a retro design that complements the car beautifully. Despite being only 16 inches in size, they look like they belong on an 18-inch wheel due to the car’s proportions. The Chrome details on the side mirrors and sunroof add to the car’s charm, giving it a polished look.

The Matte Black spoilers on the back of the car are another highlight. They give the vehicle a sporty vibe while maintaining its classic appeal. The flared arches of the car are also worth mentioning—they add a touch of ruggedness that makes this Golf 1 feel unique.

### Interior: A Classic VW Vibe

Inside the car, you’ll find a classic VW feel that hasn’t been overly modified. The original steering wheel is still in place, and it’s something I absolutely love. The interior feels spacious, especially when you consider the size of the car. The thin pillars give the impression of being in a greenhouse, which adds to the open and airy feeling inside.

The electric power windows work perfectly, which is always a nice touch in an older car. However, there are some quirks you’d expect from a classic vehicle. For instance, the gear lever feels like it’s located near your ankles, similar to how it is in a Land Rover. This means you have to lean forward slightly to shift gears, which takes some getting used to.

---

### Under the Hood: The 1.9 TDI Engine

The real magic lies under the hood of this VW Golf 1. It’s equipped with a 1.9 TDI PD engine, which is the same as the one found in the Golf 8. This engine has been modified with ARL head bolts to handle extra boost without lifting the head, custom intercooler hoses, and a large intercooler. The car also features an aluminum GTI radiator, a 3-inch downpipe, and a 2.5-inch exhaust system.

The engine has been tuned by Geotune, giving it an impressive 280 horsepower. It’s paired with custom engine mounts and a coilover kit for better handling. Unfortunately, the G60 brakes with 280-mil specifications are hidden under the car due to the cool wheels. The engine is capable of producing up to 400 horsepower with stock internals, which is nothing short of astonishing.

---

### Driving Experience: A Fun and Chaotic Ride

The driving experience in this VW Golf 1 is a mix of fun and chaos. With over 1,000 kilos on the scale and 280 horsepower under the hood, the car feels quick and responsive. The torque is immense, and it’s something you can really feel when you hit the accelerator.

During our test drive on the autobahn, we encountered a few issues with the intercooler hose coming loose multiple times. This caused the boost to drop, leading to some frustrating moments where we had to clamp the hose back into place. Despite these technical hiccups, the car’s performance was impressive. Yella has done an excellent job modifying and tuning this vehicle.

---

### Technical Challenges and Wrap-Up

The review took a chaotic turn when we discovered that the intercooler hose had come off again. This meant we had to clamp it back into place multiple times during the drive. It was a reminder of the challenges involved in maintaining such high-performance modifications. However, despite these issues, the car still managed to deliver an unforgettable driving experience.

In conclusion, Yella’s VW Golf 1 is a testament to the engineering excellence of older cars and how they can be transformed into something extraordinary with the right modifications. While it may not be perfect, its imperfections are what make it so fun to drive. If you ever get the chance to take this car for a spin, don’t hesitate— it’s an experience you won’t forget.

Thank you for reading, and we hope you enjoyed this detailed look at Yella’s VW Golf 1. Until next time, stay tuned for more exciting car reviews!

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwhat's up ladies and gentlemen and welcome to this POV review by o toell my name is Martin and today I'm taking a look at yella his VW Golf 1 with a little tune and with an engine swap very very cool it's from uh sead ibizza FR FR TDI so it's the 1.9 turbo but we'll talk about that later so first thing I notice is that gorgeous Brown Porsche color don't know the exact color name but wow how cool is that on a VW Golf one this metallic Brown just awesome so the next thing that really pops are these Audi A8 wheels these are from the American Audi A8 but they are beautiful like a retro design very very good uh we do have side view mirrors but they're not going to do us any good because at like 100 kph they just flap inside beautiful Chrome details little sunroof we have some matte black spoilers like made they look like they're made made from asasas or something like that what is that don't inhale too strongly when you're near that uh it's a gorgeous car little flared arches right there beautiful it's only a 16in wheel but on a car this size it looks like an 18 in beautiful I I like how a really old car smells and feels and gorgeous even electric power windows that's awesome so of course the magic is underneath the Bonnet because here we have same as with a golf8 we don't have a strut qu a bullet here we have that 1.9 TDI engine I was talking about so it's the 1.9 TDI PD engine and it has ARL head bolts so because of the extra boost the head doesn't lift it has custom intercooler hoses very large intercooler an aluminum GTI radiator a 3-in down pipe with a 2 and 1/2 in exhaust and it's been tuned by geot tune so it now does 280 horsepower it also has custom engine mounts a coilover kit and G60 280 mil brakes but we cannot really see it because of the cool wheels so on the inside very classic car Vibe you know the original steering wheel which I just love nothing really has been done it's actually quite spacious if you consider like exterior sizes but but that's always with all the cars they are so spacious on the inside because all the pillars are so thin and you feel like you're in a greenhouse or something like that it's also the temperature of a greenhouse inside luckily we do have seat belts and a 5-speed gearbox but the gear lever I feel like it's near my ankles it's like putting a land r the fender into low gearing they always have like this little gear lever um I really have to lean forward to uh to switch gears so yeah we're just going to see what it's like on the autoban don't you leave the O the windows open for a bit because it's just so hot out today big cloud of black smoke coming from the car once that turbo kicks in but ah that is nice big torque um could do with a realignment but you know you just don't care in a car like this yell the owner has has really changed about everything and traction starts in third gear but I don't have any ref counts or anything to judge when I should shift gears so Lean Forward into second classic VW buddies so little tunnel pass right there let's do second it is such a fun car as you might know we've also done a VW Golf 1 with a 2 L TSI engine and even a six-speed manual these 1.9 TDI engines are just unbelievable at what they can take so yellow told me you can do up to 400 horsepower with uh stock internals that's from a a 130 horsepower engine can you believe that just that's astonishing sometimes the older stuff is just a bit more solid right that was properly engineered okay we're going to close everything up for the uton section um so since it's very nice weather out we are going to go a different direction because of a lot of tourists going to the Netherlands so we're going to head into Germany to see if we can find a bit of space over there so we're going to start in third gear and see how it picks up so the car is nearly over 1,000 kilos and with 280 horsepower it should be quite quick yellow has done 230 GPS which uh seems like a lot but yeah there's definitely some power there speedometer oh I don't have any boost anymore so I had the exact same issue like half an hour ago so once I restarted it everything was fine but the the tune is pretty fresh so it's only a few days old and once I hit like the rev limiter it sort of goes into Lim mode so that's not ideal but you know we'll manage I think uh we'll be good once we get started up again um yeah I I guess you guys want to see that big cloud of uh smoke right let's see if it will work now need some boost okay let's get a screen recording going for you guys because I think the speedometer was like what the hell is going on the Driving Experience is sort of the same but you know what a fun car I I love these cars these are so special there's only one of these and yes it's not perfect but you know since when is perfect fun imperfections are what makes fun come on give me some boost be a Boosty boy yeah I think we're good okay we have to to close it up again you know what we're going to do some natural AC like that okay screw it let's see if we can do 100 to 200 uh I don't have any side view mirrors but I think we can go oh St smoke I'm going to shifter so I don't hit the rev limiter oh that was it yeah so there we go again I just came back to yell to return his car and to give him the bad news and then we discovered there was an intercooler hose that came off rear view is on this on this on this is on this is the most chaotic review in a long time so we should have a little more boost now yeah I can already hear it oh yes let's wait for a little Gap oh that's a little better big bag I think it's cable again so I'll probably need this nice and cool spot here in the tunnel yeah it came off again there not sure where to put that but it's okay oh yes pops right in there clamp it up don't you know clamp it up you got to clamp it up there we go both toel mechanics okay have to shift earlier it doesn't like doing the rep limiter oh that third gear is strong again I'm not going to do any uh 100 to 200 records with this car because you know I have to stay off the that rep limiter oh that's a cool sound here we go come on come on big blow I guess that was the intercooler hose once again I tried guys I really tried but for me this this is it I'm sorry we really have to get that clam sorted out because it won't hold the turbo pressure for now thank you guys for watching hope you enjoyed the video I enjoyed trying to make it let's call it that bye guyswhat's up ladies and gentlemen and welcome to this POV review by o toell my name is
