Galaxy S20+ (Snapdragon) vs Galaxy S20+ (Exynos) Battery Test

The Galaxy S20: A Tale of Two Processors

As we dive into our hands-on review of the Samsung Galaxy S20, one thing becomes immediately apparent - this is not your typical flagship device. While everyone else across the globe has been fitted with Samsung's in-house Exynos 990 processor, a lucky few have managed to snag the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 variant. But what does this mean for battery life? And can the Snapdragon deliver on its promises?

The Test Begins

We started our test by firing up the phone app and placing both devices on a simulated call while keeping the screen off for the majority of the time. After 60 minutes, we weren't blown away by the results. The Snapdragon variant pulled a slight lead over the Exynos, but it was nowhere near a game-changer.

Messaging Test

We then moved on to our messaging test, where each device was used to send back and forth with our automated chat bot for an hour straight. The screen was still on during this entire time, with both devices calibrated equally to 200 nits. After one hour, we saw a slight difference between the two - the Snapdragon variant added an extra two percentage points to its lead.

Email Test

Next up was our email test, where each device was used for an hour straight while keeping the screen on throughout. We were surprised to see that the Exynos didn't exactly come from behind in this one, falling by a nine percent at the same time as the Snapdragon. A bit of good news for those who might have thought the Exynos would finally catch up.

Browser Test

Our final test before battery life was our browser test, where each device cycled through a set of websites without any distractions. Unfortunately, this didn't end well for the Exynos - it followed another percentage point behind the Snapdragon after just one hour.

Instagram Test

We also put both devices to the test in Instagram, scrolling through the home feed without any issues. However, our results were similar to the browser test - the Exynos fell behind by a small margin after an hour.

Standby Test

Next up was our standby test, where each device was left on for 16 hours straight. And here's what happened: the Snapdragon variant managed to pull away from the Exynos, increasing its lead to a significant seven percentage points. Not great news for those who thought they'd be able to make the most of their phone's battery life.

YouTube Test

We also put both devices through our YouTube test, where we calibrated the speakers on each device to the same decibel counts. And what did we find? Surprisingly, after an hour of binge-watching, both devices performed identically - a testament to Samsung's impressive calibration work.

Gaming Test

Finally, we threw both devices into our gaming test, where we ran Altos Adventure for 60 minutes straight. Unfortunately, the Exynos variant didn't exactly hold its own, falling behind by another two percentage points after an hour.

Maps Test

Our final test before battery life was our maps test, where each device was used for an hour straight while navigating through a simulated route. And here's what happened: despite initially managing to keep up with the Snapdragon, the Exynos fell back behind by a significant margin - not exactly ideal.

Spotify Test

Next up was our Spotify test, where we listened to music on both devices for 60 minutes straight. However, things took a turn for the worse after just 14 minutes into the test, when the Exynos variant threw in the towel and ran out of battery. Not great news.

Snapchat Test

Finally, we put both devices through our Snapchat test, which simulated multiple tasks like camera use, microphone use, screen on time, and Wi-Fi usage all at once. And what did we find? The Snapdragon managed to last 11 minutes longer than the Exynos - not a huge gap, but still an important distinction.

Battery Test Wrap-Up

And there you have it, folks - our hands-on review of the Samsung Galaxy S20 with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor. While both devices performed similarly in some tests, the Snapdragon variant managed to outlast the Exynos by almost an hour of screen on time, making it the winner in this test.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enso we already did the speed test between the Snapdragon and Exynos variant of the galaxy s 20 and without giving anything away there was a pretty significant difference so in today's video we're gonna be doing the battery test to see if the same holds true when it comes to battery life now taking a look at the spec sheets just for review countries at the US Canada and Samsung's home country in Korea all get a galaxy s 20 with qualcomm snapdragon 865 while pretty much everywhere else across the globe gets Samsung's in-house Exynos 990 the rest of the specs of course are identical we're testing both phones at 120 Hertz so it's gonna be interesting to see how these two phones stack up I mean they're supposed to be exactly the same you pay around the same amount of money for both but are you getting the same amount of battery life let's find out there's only a few more days left to enter our giveaway for a brand new Galaxy S 2002 uh and all you have to do to enter to win is follow us at phone buff on Instagram and that's literally it this giveaway is international and we'll be announcing the winner on April 30th with all the links and info that you need down below alright we'll begin the test in the phone app where each device is gonna go on the same one our phone call and while the screen it does remain off for the majority of the test here the phone's microphone earpieces and cellular are still being put to work we're after 60 minutes there isn't much of a difference between the two with the snapdragon variant only doing slightly better than the Exynos pulling a 1 percentage point ahead here in the messaging test we're simply texting back and forth with our automated chat bot this isn't a particularly intensive test by any means but the screens are on the entire time with both of them of course calibrated equally to 200 nits we're after one hour this time we see a bigger difference with the snapdragon variant adding an additional two percentage points to its lead so going into the email test there's already a pretty clear difference between the two at the same time of course we're still very early in the battery test so there's plenty of time for the Exynos to possibly recover and after one hour in the email test well it didn't necessarily make a comeback the external experience was at least able to match the snapdragon with both phones falling by an equal nine percent so a bit of good news for the X notes in the last test hopefully we can see it do the same thing here in the browser test where each phone is cycling through the same set of websites but after one hour unfortunately that doesn't happen the Snapdragon does better once again but only by a little adding another percentage point to its lead here in Instagram each phone is simply scrolling through the home feed this is nothing intensive but it's still a realistic test that simulates what people do on their phones which after one hour unfortunately the excellence variance battery drains slightly more with it following another percentage points behind meaning going into halftime here in the standby test the X note is a 5 percent behind and if it's anything like last year things make it even worse after this 16 hours standby where yeah that's exactly what we see with the snap checking parent doing a better job through standby increasing his lead to what is now a significant seven percentage points we'll see if the Exynos can stop the bleeding here in YouTube where it's worth noting that just like with the screens we've calibrated the speakers on each phone to the same decibel counts where one hour of binge-watching later the two phones surprisingly perform identically which for the Exynos is finally a bit of good news of course it's unfortunate that there's a difference here to begin with so hopefully we can see the Exynos variant continued to match the snapdragon in the last few tests here particularly in gaming where while Altos adventure isn't the most demanding game it is at least putting the phone's CPU and GPU to work where after 1 hour I hate to say but the Exynos variant does worse once again following another 2 percentage points behind so at this point I think it's safe to say the Snapdragon variants clearly offers better battery life than the action experience even though these are supposed to be the same phones we're almost at a double-digit difference here in maps which is well beyond any margin of error and while after one hour of simulated navigation the Exynos does manage to match the Snapdragon it only has a 5% left to go as we move on to the Spotify test where after just 14 minutes into the test the Exynos variant throws in the towel while the Snapdragon still has 11% left to go in effort to make it through all 60 minutes with 3% battery remaining which allows it to enter this super intensive snapchat test where the camera the microphone the screen and Wi-Fi are all being used simultaneously which drains the Snapdragon interest for minutes meaning the Snapdragon officially outlasts the Exynos by almost an hour of screen on time making it the winner in this battery test anyways that is it for me in this video thank you guys for watching and as always I'll see you in the very next episodeso we already did the speed test between the Snapdragon and
